Rank you Conferences Signing Day Class, as well as the "teams" within your conference.. which is the best, to the worst. Also name who you think could be the newcomer of the year, the biggest impact, etc...Just any overall evaluation you want to give for your conference...

I'll just talk about the texas Southland teams....we all got better. sfa actually drew some decent recruits after their 0-11 season last year. shsu got some better wide outs for the car salesman to throw to.

Texas State got two good Dbs that should put a bandaid over our biggest weakness last year, the secondary. we got an Iowa St transfer, Drenard Williams, and a rivals 3 star recruit, Dominick Maddox from San Antonio. Both those players will make their impact known on the Tx St defense.

We got a 6-6 receiver. He should be very interesting to watch.

Also a DB nicknamed "The Punisher". He can follow in the footsteps of some very successful hard hitting DBs we have had here at Sam.

SoCon has to be the best cause Georgia Southern had 6 18 star recruits and 12 17 star recruits, and competed with the "big boys" for top signing class out of ALL of college football. They are going to be untouchable, and all teams should just drop their teams because all other coaches will be unable to train their players to compete at this level.. xsmiley_wix

It's really hard to tell. I think a post by McBeat on the McNeese Delphi board kind of tells the story. McBeat wrote that McNeese had a verbal commitment from a DB. On Monday of this week, he had no stars from Rivals. On Tuesday, Arkansas came in at the last minute and offered. Naturally he accepted. Now all of a sudden he has two stars.

So, if Arkansas would never have come in on him, McNeese would've had a no-star recruit. But apparently he was good enough to get interest from a BCS league school...even if the lateness of it means he was borderline from their standpoint.

I also think about the McNeese/ULL game this past year. If you went by the Rivals "star" system and followed the two schools' classes in recent years, you'd have expected the Cajuns to have a big talent advantage over McNeese when the two teams played. They pretty clearly didn't.

Oh...having said all that...I feel pretty good about McNeese's recruiting class except I wish they could've gotten a couple of defensive tackles. I'm particularly pleased with the running backs they got...especially if the one they got out of Carencro High school pans out academically.

Delaware's class looks fine on paper, as I'm sure everyone's class does - I've yet to see the recruiting class where the school says "well, we did our best, but this is a pretty darn mediocre group of recruits - we're not even sure we're going to keep them at this point". We'll find out in 2-3 years who really had a good class.

I'm also very happy about Babin from Donaldsonville. I know the coaches who ran the "Red Stick Bowl" all star game here in the Baton Rouge area think he is one heck of a player and McNeese really got a steal.

They were telling me that before the Red Stick Bowl was played and when it was played, this is what happened:

"Big plays are seldom the norm for a high school football all-star game like the U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl VI. Donaldsonville’s Champlain Babin exceeded the norm several times on Saturday at BREC’s Olympia Stadium.

Babin rushed for 191 yards on just 12 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Black Knights past the Rough Riders, 22-0."

I have followed some of the names from the five players signed in this class. I think to call this class mediocre, translates into not knowing the full story behind any of the recruits. What does, "We're not even sure we are going to keep them at this point." mean?

We have at least two recruits that could have easily played FBS ball, but chose to play, rather than be a number on a larger team. One player had an offer from Penn State, as well as, full consideration from other FBS schools, his mistake was, he committed early to an FBS program and other programs took different directions.

I thinks K.C. did a great job of recruiting and got some great steals, in terms of having players capable of performing and heavy in character.

I welcome your thoughts.

For FBS schools (maybe just BCS schools) Rivals gives an automatic 2-star to any player that they don't have any real information to evaluate that player.

You really can't look at Rivals for anything related to FCS. Not offers and definitely not rankings. I know App St. has their own page, so their offers and rankings may have more vailidity than others.

For all the talk form the App guys a few years back about all the "studs" they had recruited, at least they've delivered some titles. We'll see what all of GSU's "studs" do over the next few seasons.

haha, i think it's funny that no one actually wants to rank their conferences' recruiting classes (whether it be because of lack of knowledge or the fact that it really doesn't matter)...

...and i'm not one to break a trend, so i'll just say i'm happy with our recruiting class at Texas State.

I think it is way too difficult to rate each conference team top to bottom. As far as the SoCon goes, I have always been impressed with Bobby Lamb's recruiting (not as impressed with his coaching skills but he certainly can get great players there) and it looks like Hatcher has the knack to recruit well.

I thought I would have heard more about Elon's recruits just because they had a good class the past two years and it seems like that is the program on the rise in the conference.

I think Wagner at WCU put together a decent class but he did it in 3 weeks at the helm so that is good news for them.

As an App fan I pay closer attention to their class and I think there are some real gems in the bunch. IMO, App does a better job at coaching the kids they get than they do recruiting a higher level prospect. Honestly, in the past few years I just thought with the exposure we have received there would be higher touted recruits coming. That being said, the recruits become standouts when they get here. Armanti was a pretty big get for us and he has blossomed. But it seems like we have guys, like Corey Lynch and Kevin Richardson, who were not really high prospect recruits yet they come in and learn the system and they are really able to up their play because they are well coached.

Comparing classes is pointless. The bottom line is whether or not you addressed needs and feel like you're bringing in better talent than what's leaving out. The scary thing is all of the SoCon staffs appear to be excellent recruiters. BL and the Furman coaching staff shot for the top more in 08. We won some Matt Gordon over MissSt and a grayshirt offer from Auburn, Bryan Poole an offer from Ole Miss, and it seemed like we went head-to-head against on just about every player with Army-Navy-Air Force. Bobby does appears to be one of the best at closing the deal.

This season will show his coaching skills or the lack of them. I'm in the he's got skills group. I can understand that an APP fan can sit back and have a good laugh at all the odd calls and twists of the FU/APP games since BL has been head coach.

To Bobby's credit he has made major changes in this off-season. He had too, just as Coach Moore did in 2004.

Considering that we do not play for a few years yet, and have had no program for MANY years, and we got several nationally rated players, plus some (hopefully) overlooked local prospects that should contribute well. I would grade ODU's first recruiting class a solid B+

I have no idea about how your class looked this year but that is doubtful. All I can say is that I have heard Bennett uses negative recruiting tactics to get his guys. If that is true it could end up hurting him in the long run...

You've heard wrong.....La Cid made that claim 2 years ago along with a one or two SoCon schools....CDB is a top notch coach.....We will be lucky to keep him for a few more years.
