JSU Sign's 28 New Blue Bengal's (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080206/SPORTS1101/80206057)
There were a lot of smiles in the Jackson State football offices as the day slowed and 28 new Tigers were in the fold.
And one of the biggest reasons JSU coaches were smiling on national signing day was a signature from Dominick Britt, a 6-foot-5 quarterback from Ohio who signed with the Tigers instead of waiting to see if Michigan, Ohio State and Pittsburgh, all of which were recruiting him but had yet to offer a scholarship, would find a spot for him if others they were recruiting went elsewhere.

28 guys...? Didn't you sign about 40 last year? Heavy turnover under Comegy to make the program have success?

Dude....................................xlolx
Jackson State has recruited like this forever.
Kind of blow a hole in your "won't come because of playoff" theory.
And most of those 28 are HIGHSCHOOLERS.
The transfer's and JUCO's from 2 year's ago are gone and these FRESHMEN can be redshirted if they are not needed THIS YEAR just like the freshmen from LAST YEAR.
It's not hard to figure out.
Everybody from JSU here has told you Comegy got all those JUCO's the first year to build a base that BELL killed.
Heck..............COMEGY'S OWN WORD'S ABOUT THAT IS IN THE ARTICLE POSTED IN SEVERAL STORIES ON OUR CLARION LEDGER SPORT'S PAGE.
He keep's 6 slot's a year open for transfer's and now that the base is filled, he said he will be cutting down on the number of JUCO's ........................Reflected in this 2008 class.
If you knew just how many CHAMPIONSHIP JUCO's this area has, you would not even question why.
Practically every SEC school in this area guide's their recruit's to these school's if they don't qualify.
If they go to HINDS CC, Holmes CC, etc, in 2 year's with JSU within 20 miles from them, a lot change their minds and enroll at JSU.
Our situation is way different than most FCS school's.
We are located in the Capitol City, over 100 school's withing a 25 mile area and about 5 JUCO's within that same area.
That's not counting the bases we have in other regions as reflected in the 2008 class again.
You think you know JSU but trust me you don't. xlolx
How can we not sign classes like this. xlolx

Newly crowned SWAC champ retools Signing Day approach
JSU, heavy on transfers last year, focuses on prep ranks

Building a football program is all about evolution.
Jackson State was mired in three consecutive losing seasons and hadn't won a Southwestern Athletic Conference title since 1996 before Rick Comegy was hired prior to the 2006 season. So the the new staff took a certain approach to recruiting.
"You want to compete right away," Comegy said. "If you've only got guys who shouldn't be on this level trying to run what you're trying to run, you never know if what you do works."
"We made a decision that we had to get some grown men in here to help us win now," JSU recruiting coordinator Greg Ruffin said.
Comegy's staff signed 55 players on the 2006 Signing Day - 15 of which were transfers. All 55 weren't on campus that first fall, but the final numbers from that class included nine transfers from Division I-A programs.
Last season, JSU signed 20 players on the 2007 Signing Day and continued to sign transfers in the following days.
JSU is now the reigning SWAC champ.
Jimmy Oliver, Daniel Brooks, Erik Haw, Carlos Simpson, Keith Camp, Domonique Johnson, Chris Johnson, Willie Williams, Lavarius Giles, Terance Jones, Marcus Benard and Dennis Coit are all transfers who played huge roles in the 2007 title.
But as the program took strides, so has the recruiting philosophy. And the coaching staff expects that to be evident today - the 2008 National Signing Day.
"We're a little bit more on solid ground now," Ruffin said. "When we first got here, the emphasis was to get some guys that can help us now instead of later."
Jackson State plans to sign 24 players this year - the staff expects 18 to come from the high school ranks.
"We're going to keep that number lower," Comegy said about signing transfers. "Mississippi was our main focus this year. We really concentrated there. We're looking at high school kids a little more right now.
"I think we're strong enough right now to get in here and have another good season and then season a crop of players. We needed a player here and a player there. I don't think we have to rush out there anymore to get a guy who can do this or do that. I think we've already established the fact that we're a good football team and can win."

TT must not realize that our previous coach left us with few players. We didn't even have enough players to play a Spring game under his reign of terror. xlolx So Comegy had to sign 55 kids, many of which were transfers like star QB Jimmy Oliver, and they have to be replaced this year. So we loaded up big time. And we are signing more good high school kids. I love this class. I give it a xthumbsupx

How does this impact APR? Obviously it does not matter unless these guys get on campus and begin classes, if I am not mistaken, but even with all these scholarships yearly, are most of these signees not getting on campus?

Dude.
A lot of these guy's are already walking JSU's campus enrtolled, going to class.
Just say congrat's like you do for everybody else and quit comming up with meaningless negative theories.
JSU has survived 137 year's without problems.
JSU atheletic's has survived for over 80 years without advise from TT.
Waiting on the next negative ............................. xlolx
BTW: TT
16 of those recruit's were at our festival this past Saturday.
What did ya'll do for your's as a last recruiting push? xlolx

Glad that is the case...
Compliance directors often get overlooked. Them and the academic folks in an athletic department are huge assets to an athletic department especially considering the importance of APR and all the academic side of things on the athletic programs as a whole...

New QB and New Contract on same day for Comegy. xthumbsupx (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080207/SPORTS030101/802070359/1073)
Head coach Rick Comegy pulled in a recruiting class that he rated an 8.0 on a scale of 10 - a class that includes standout quarterback Dominick Britt.
He also received a contract extension through the 2011 season, pending IHL approval. His original four-year deal was set to expire after the 2009 season. Comegy led the JSU to its first SWAC title since 1996. Athletic director Bob Braddy would not release the details of the contract.
Britt originally committed to Cincinnati. Pittsburgh was heavily recruiting the 6-foot-5, 190-pounder, but Britt said it and other schools backed off because he didn't take the ACT for the first time until December.
"(Woody) was on me every day," said Britt, who scored a 25 on the test. "He was one of the biggest reasons. We built up a real good relationship All the other coaches stopped. He stuck with me

It's in today's Clarion Ledger and TT's conference loaded up on them. xlolx
It's under the title of Mississipian's leaving State. xlolx
