He comes from Miles College, a D-II HBCU, where he was 18-15 in 3 seasons.

I don't know anything about Shade other than he has an actual coaching resume and isn't simply a famous former NFL player who said he was interested in the job. By that criteria, this is a fantastic hire.
EDIT: Relatedly -- though unrelated to FCS -- Miles College has now replaced Shade with 61-year old Chris Goode.
Who's Chris Goode, you may ask? Where did he coach last year? Well....Goode is a former U. of Alabama and NFL player who spent seven years with the Indianapolis Colts -- he last played in 1994 -- and whose only coaching experience is a short stint as the defensive coordinator of the Birmingham Steeldogs of the Arena Football League. By the way, that team closed up shop in 2007. Since then, he and his brother, also a local sports legend, ran their own prep-school program which didn't actually offer classes and whose legal address doesn't actually exist -- think post-grad Bishop Sycamore, essentially. That program hasn't had any online presence or engagement since April so it looks like that well has finally run dry.
Essentially, Miles watched a qualified coach develop right in front of their eyes, take them to a national seed in the D2 playoffs, and then said, "That's cool and all but we've decided to replace him with some guy whose only qualification appears to be that he's locally famous. Because, you know, scam artists are probably good at recruiting." xbangx
I know it's not FCS but every HBCU fan should be fed up with this kind of BS, regardless of what level it is.
