Just took a 4-0 lead on the Braves scoring 4 in the top of the ninth! Victorino three run PH HR! Damn, too bad they don't play the Braves more often, the Phillies can actulally beat them. Astros already won 2-1 so no ground going to be made up.

Damn Astros! At least the Phillies aren't doing their typical late season folding act.

Astros have a softer schedule than the Phils down the stretch: 7 against the Cubs, 2 against the Cards who have nothing to play for. Phils have 3 against Cincy, 3 against the Mets and finish at Washington for 3. The Phils will definitely need some help.

 If you think about it, the Stros have been the better team head to head, but with a two game lead and a 6-0 record against the Phils, the Phillies have been better against the rest of the league. Especially when you consider they had to face the Braves (10-9), the Marlins (10-9), and the Nationals (8-8) 19 times each who the Astros hold a 9-11 record against. Flip schedules and I think the Phillies are two games up. Sour grapes I guess.

Nine games to go. Not impossible if the Phils can keep hot and go 7-2 or 6-3. I wouldn't expect Houston to go worse than 5-4, but stranger things have happened. These late game wins with the dramatic flourish seem to say 'destiny', but at the very least these guys are battling to the end.

Phils get 5 runs in the 9th to take a 11-10 lead on the Reds...I may be a Braves fan, but it would really nice if an NL East team would get the wildcard, because then the Braves play the Padres/or whoever wins the crappy NL West.

What a dramatic finish. After blowing a 6-1 lead to trail 10-6 heading into the ninth, the Phillies got their first two batters on the lead off with Rollins and Lofton. Utley then followed with his second HR of the night--a 3-run job giving him 5 rbi's on the night and 95 on the year. The team record for a second baseman is 100 by Juan Samuel.
However, Abreu was called out on strikes. A horrible call on pitch at the ankles. Abreu and Mgr. Manuel got tossed. Burrell then came up and struck out swinging on a pitch horribly outside. That brought up rookie Ryan Howard, who had already homered in the game (#20). Talk about respect; the Reds walked him on four pitches that weren't even close. Bringing up David Bell who worked a 3-2 count on Weathers. Next pitch was slider down, but Bell golfed it into the left field stands. Five runs in the ninth. Wagner nailed down the save (#35) hitting 100 mph on several pitches.
Houston lost to Cubs, today, 5-4. Clemmens is not pitching tomorrow. Phils are one game back of the Astros with 8 to play.

Utley is the man and Howard is increasingly looking like the real deal but Bell has been making great clutch plays at the plate and in the field. I do hope he gets some recognition forhis September play.

Yes, Bell has started to play in September they way we hoped all year. He's been very erratic at bat and in the field, but the last 3 weeks he has really been a clutch performer. Marzano's comment after the game, that the key is going to be Myers and Padilla "growing up" and doing what's expected of them, rather than losing their focus when things don't go right for them. The rotation needs their talents badly.

Padilla and Myers may be the most talented pitchers on the Phil's staff. If they pull it together the Phils can make a run. However, based on past history I hate placing my hopes on these two.

After that incredible 11-10 win last night, the Phils are headed into the bottom of the 8th down 3-2. Could they have one more ninth-inning miracle ahead?

Went down with a whimper tonight. Same reliever, too--Weathers. Two back with 7 to play. Alot can still happen.

Would almost suck to end the season with the streak in tact.

Seems each time Jeremy Foster of 610 KILT-AM gives a sermon to the Lord on the radio, the Astros come alive. Perhaps we should give him a call tommorrow morning and ask for him to get the Lord to touch the young arms, give Biggio an extra hit by pitch and heal the Astros... :)
His last sermon...

Bad loss, indeed. But at this stage, every loss is a bad loss. Urbina just ensured himself a one-way ticket out of town.

Likely. Hard to believe after he had pretty good stuff against Cincinnati. I'd think about using Fultz as the set up man here onl in.

Let's hope not; I don't want the Braves to have to play the Astros in the first round.
