At least they got rid of him quick. More time to search/hire. More time for new coach to get to work. When we fired ours it took forever all the way around. Good luck.

Any leading candidates?

Any leading candidates?

Normally when McNeese fires a coach of any sport, they have a few candidates in mind. The past 3 coaches have all been "outsiders." I think the push is to hire a coach with McNeese connections. I have seen some names on the dream list, but most are not likely.

Seems odd didn't Mcneese have their best season in 3-4 years? Maybe he was finally getting it turned around.

Orgeron?

That is one name I have not seen come up. He is a very rich man (thanks to LSU) and is probably enjoying the easy life.

Inconsistency was a big problem, coming out flat and losing games we should have won, lack of discipline, unsportsmanlike penalties, things going on off the field, too. He came promising to score lots of points. We haven't seen it. He's a good man. I wish him well. Sponsors stepped up to buy out his contract, and so I guess that about says it all.

After last season's 0-10 debacle...I don't count the fofreit win over Northwestern....Goff dumped some assistants and brought in some new blood.....we did look better than either of the previous two years, but there were some areas where we were soft...and undisciplined. If you're gonna sacrificially fire some underlings to keep your job, you better leave no doubt that you're a lot better than you were...and let's not forget that no other coachin in McNeese history has ever gone 0-10...so, any credit he gets for improving over that has to be measured by criticisms for his letting us fall that far...that's the genesis of the AD's "we're not going to celebrate mediocrity" in the aftermath of a 6-6 season.

McNeese fans can put up with a lot...just not "soft" and "undisciplined" and "mediocre"....I get that that continuity is harder in the NIL and Portal world, but at the end of the day, it's still footall!

While it would be fantastic if O decided to come back to Lake Charles for a couple of years, the real benefit to that would be if he could get the band back together with OC Steve Ensminger and DL guru Bill Johnson, who were all at McNeese in the mid 80's, at Miami in the 90s and were on the 2019 LSU Natty staff. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, but it would be fun if it did....He'd probably bring his sons in who are both coaching in college and who both played at McNeese..,that sort of opportunity might be a cool inducement....but...

I'd like to see them follow the Will Wade playbood and maybe reach out to somebody like Art Briles....who know if he's even interested...

I'm shocked as hell that we got boosters who were willing to step up and finance the buy out....THAT's both NEW and freakin Huge for us....

I think Saturday night played a big part. LU acted like fools ( ive emailed our AD), but damn, cowboys were outta control.

It was definitely not a good look for McNeese, Lamar, the SLC, or FCS football. Since the game didn't mean much as far as playoffs or anything, chances are most football fans did not see this debacle. Lots needs to be cleaned up on both sides.

Realistically, who do you think the top candidates are or should be? Do you think Broderick Fobbs would be in the mix?

You know better than I about Art Briles and how he was hired and then not hired at Grambling. Do you think Lake Charles/SW Louisiana would be any more open to him with his past?

If what I am hearing works out, there will some coaches with McNeese bloodlines coming back to McNeese. Players who are now coaches and coaches that have been here before. It's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out.

That sounds great! Praying for the best! Several Pokes entered the transfer portal today. Hope the good ones can be re-recruited.

I think Will Wade's success means that the faithful would be more open to, say, a Briles than in the past....

Doc's information pipeline's a lot better than mine. All my direct conduits got fired about 7 years ago! ;) If Doc's hearing that there may be some bloodline heirs in the works, I'd defer to him!

I looked up Briles. He's 68, and so probably too old anyway.
