It will be a busy Thanksgiving weekend for the CAA in the playoffs. All four participants will be hosting an opening round game.

This will be the 9th season the CAA has picked up 4 playoff slots. The CAA had a record 6 participants in 2018 and four times had 5 participants, the last being 2022. The CAA has never had less than two entrants, 13 times (the last 2022).

The CAA is 59-40 in 1st Round games and 125-115 overall including 6-7 in the Championship Game.

URI (10-2) hosts NEC Champion, Central Connecticut.
This is the Rams fourth appearance and first since 1985! The resilient Rams have rallied to win 7 of their 10 games in 2H comebacks. Only losses at Minnesota and @ Delaware, 21-24.
Winner plays @ So Con champ, Mercer.

UNH (8-4) hosts UT Martin of the Big South/Ohio Valley
The Wildcats 19th appearance. Last in 2022. UNH had a 13 straight year run of appearances 2004-2017. I believe that might be the FCS record. Losses at UCF, Harvard, URI and Villanova.
UNH is 15-17 all time in the playoffs.
Winner plays @ Montana State (yikes)

RICHMOND (10-2) hosts Lehigh, Patriot League Champions.
3rd straight appearance for the Spiders. UR is 16-11 in the field all time with one national championship. Spiders are on a 10 game winning streak. Only losses at UVA and Wofford.
Winner plays @ Idaho

VILLANOVA (9-3) hosts Eastern Kentucky of the UAC
2nd straight appearance for the Wildcats and 16th all time. Cats have a 14-14 record in the playoffs and one national championship. Only losses at Maryland, at Monmouth and at Maine.
Winner plays @ Southland Champion, Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
Useless Trivia: IWU is the westernmost Catholic University in FCS. I believe there are 9 overall: Villanova, Dayton, Duquesne, St Francis PA, Valparaiso, Fordham, Holy Cross, Georgetown and IWU. Did I miss one?

Are these Catholic Universities separate from the Jesuit ones, or are we referring to the FCS members?

FCS members only. :)

Also, Sacred Heart was also forgotten as well. It was founded by a Diocese.

Add 2 of newest FCS members - Stonehill and Mercyhurst.

Six Catholic FCS schools currently reside in the NEC or are former NEC-members: Duquesne, Saint Francis (PA), Sacred Heart, Stonehill, Mercyhurst, and Merrimack.

Sorry this is off-topic for this thread as it is not about the in's and out's of Catholicism, but CHen will want to see it...so we're dropping it here. It is CAA Playoffs-related...sort of.

that game is on youtube by the way

I can't say I remember what I was doing on the day of that game but probably watching and waiting as the scores scrolled by on the bottom of the set. Now two days before that I know exactly what I was doing, and it was experiencing my first Puerto Rican Thanksgiving at the home of my girlfriend and future wife who to this day calls the Blue Hens the Gallenas Azules .... The Turkey wasn't the only Hen that got baked that day

Joey D is an absolute clown who has ruined CAAFB. ****ty games by all 4 teams.

URI’s back QB stinks and will cause Mercer to dunk all over them
Nova is overrated and will probably get dunked on by UIW.

The schools have also failed to adapt to the changing nature of college football.

FLO sports sucks ****ing ass too. To any CAA conference members, no one is watching your ****ing sports on cable television anymore.

That is all.

I would guess he learned enough with the last move it will be somewhere he will play, and I really believe he will make a difference when he gets there.
And no I do not think it will be Richmond though he would be able to play and make a difference there, one can dream about early Christmas gifts.

I attended the last game of this Albany disaster of a season and two rumors were floating around. 1) Poff was considering coming back to Albany 2) Levi Wentz is leaving program. Who knows if any of this is true. All I know I don't think Poff would have made that much of a difference in 2024 as our D was bloody awful. Maybe squeeze out another win. I am glad this season is over, and I hope everyone on Offense with the exception of our 3 young rb's and the new frosh starter Van Weber leave, they can all hit the portal.... good riddance. Time for a rebuild. BTW our faithful want GG's head on a platter

The hits just keep on rolling.

Spiders now up to 10 in portal as best I can piece together all starters, plus the normal loses of those that have finished playing time. I think 7 of transfers are grads and 3 underclassmen. Traynor is going to be really good, CAA Defensive Rookie of year.

One starter still there on OL I think and three left on DL. Three starting WR gone, all to portal. QB and 1300 yard plus RB gone.

Offered 3 DII guys from portal this week. PL mid-pack I would guess at this point, at best.

Strangely only lost three recruits and all knew about move to PL, one went FBS on signing day, one was from GA, so may not have wanted to play all northern schedule. Ended up signing 16, then all hell broke loose.

Richmond coach appears a bit blindsided by all the pending departures and explains that moving up to FBS and dreams of dollars seem to be the motivation. Plus is mystified that some of these players seem to know where they're going (tampering?). Explains the move over to PL and the playoff loss to (PL) Lehigh were not factors. He has plans to pick up about seven transfers to fill the gaps...at this point.

Yesterday's interview with the coach: https://www.espnrichmond.com/episode/richmond-football-head-coach-russ-huesman-talks-transfer-portal/?rand=68533205

He does stress the value of the regular redshirt process at Richmond and seems to believe that will continue in the PL.

Same exact thing happened to Albany after the 2023 season. Clearly UA never recovered for 2024. Believe it or not, the losses on D were far worse than losing Poff. As I said in an earlier post that having Poff back may not have made much of a difference this past season as the D was atrocious.

Here is to 2025's rebuild!!

Thanks, guess Spider fans will see how it goes. Half the people on Spider board in a poll thought the PL move was best for Spider FB, but most of those that voted that way think Richmond's failed BB program is the future and FB going in PL might get a BB invite later.

I checked, Amir Hall former Spider and Dane, only started 4 games for Michigan but did play in 11 games this year if I read the two deep right and likely would have been All American had he stayed at either former school. Hope he got a nice check.

With 105 scholarships in FBS now, there will be players on the scout teams now that could have had nice FCS careers.
Albany and Richmond are not the last two FCS programs this will happen to, especially if the tampering is not stopped.
Spider HC said many knew where they were going when they approached him about leaving before the portal opened.
