bulldog, I thought the capacity was 30,323. Maybe they shrank it again.

Since 1997 I believe.

Maybe it was no shows. Some of the less enthusiastic fans, who don't like November football weather, may have decided it would be more comfortable in a bar.

Sure it was away, but 80,300 showed up to watch my Dogs fight the Clemson Tigers. Lots of mixed families in SC. Almost everyone has a brother, father, cousin, uncle or such that went to either school. And believe it or not, Clemson is like the #11 team that we have played the most even though they left the SOCON over 70 years ago. In any event, they gave us a nice check.

Attendance was lowered after the upper tier renovation, correct?

Yes, although alums my age and older might remember sitting in “the Colonnade.”

What were the games like before the Yale Bowl was built? Did you guys have to stand?

Dback, I’m not quite that old! Look at some of the old photos. When I was an undergrad, Harvard used to erect bleachers in the open end zone and on the sidelines to increase the seating capacity to 41,000.

surprised at the numbers for both the Richmond and Villanova games. For ‘rivalry’ games, I would have expected double digits.

Richmond downgraded into a nice, on campus stadium but the ceiling is 8,200. This (7,500) was a high number for them this year but despite the win streak, they didn’t sellout.

On Villanova/Delaware, I think a lot of the luster faded given the Hens move next year.

If either game were at W&M or Delaware, you would have had double digit crowds. Fan support at both Richmond and Villanova has been dropping. I know Richmond claims it’s lack of interest on some new CAA entries - but I sure wouldn’t expect any uptick when they start hosting PL opponents.

Congrats on a Fin Sweep! My good friend and former Hanna Car Wash Systems coworker and MSU alum Ron Holm (he handled Oil Co national accts from Portland OR HQ and I was repping Hanna in Mid-Atlantic) and I would talk on the phone frequently back in the 80s and early 90s and we would comment on our respective seasons. Never forget after 2006 Lehigh-Lafayette game in Easton going out to a bar nearby and there was a Wild watch party with like 25 folks! I was impressed!

Could be part of it. I attribute it more to the ongoing decline in student/alumni interest in Ivy football.

Yale had a stadium before the Bowl. I think it was called Yale Field. I'm not sure exactly when it was built, maybe the 1880's, and capacity was 35k or so. I believe it was all wood. It was across the street (Derby Ave) from where the Bowl was built and Yale built their baseball stadium on that site when the old football stadium was torn down.

I think it impacts all games. People staying in the tailgate lots socializing, playing corn hole, etc. and watching on their screens.
