Appears to be confirmed - CNN/SI and ESPN are saying it now. Looks like Gasol for Brown, Crittentden, and two first round picks ('08 and '10 I think). Good trade for the Lakers, IMO, they have to win now and fill the game that not having Bynum has put them in. Plus, they get real tall when Bynum comes back. The first round picks won't mean much as the Lakers should be well back in the 1st round. Grizzly get the benefit of Brown's expiring contract this year.

Why in the world does Memphis make this trade? Give up a franchise low post scorer for an absolute bum in Kwame Brown, a D league point guard in Crittendon, when they already have two PG's of the future. Stupid trade for Memphis.

Crittendon has star potential, they get tons of cap relief and two first round picks. They also have the rights to Marc Gasol who is 7-1 280 and younger than Pau. The Lakers made a good move, I only wish the Bulls had made it xsmhx

They should have waited a week before making this trade.xoopsx
My team, the Magic, hosts the Lakers next Friday and this move potentially makes them even more dangerous, giving them a low post scorer who can step out and shoot too- balances their attack even w/o Kobe on the floor. Hopefully he doesn't pick up the triangle too quickly and they struggle for a week or so.;)

I've been reading a lot of comments on ESPN, stating that Gasol is an "average" player and that he is just going to waste space when Bynum comes back. Please, Gasol is the KG of Spain, he's totally ignored because of where he plays and who he is.
Gasol:
18.9 PPG
8.8 RPG
3.0 APG
Garnett:
19.2 PPG
9.9 RPG
3.8 APG
Gasol has played in 39 games while KG has been in 41. Given KG does have the better stat line, but not by much, Gasol will greatly improve the Lakers, the only issue is, can he stay healthy

Good trade now for the Lakers. Good trade for Memphis provided they use the cap space wisely this off-season.

Crittendon does not have star potential. Their rookie PG Conley does.

I will say it is hard to compare the two due to the fact that Javaris gets around 3 minutes of playing time a game. Conley gets about 27. But Javaris has the size and strength that it is always great to have as a guard in the NBA. Conley may have the speed, but the top PGs in the game aren't about speed. Time will tell with both of them. The only thing that confuses me is what are they going to do with Conley, Crittenton and Lowry?

That is why I'm wondering why this trade went down.

This was a great move for the Lakers, especially in the absence of Andrew Bynum. This will give them a real low post player, and gives Kwame Brown a chance to start fresh in a new locale.

Bill Simmons once wrote something about David Carr and how he was a number one pick so he must have talent, and that fans always get a little excited, but the truth is that he sucks. Same applies to Kwame, the guy doesn't have the hustle, work ethic, or even the skills to be a star in the NBA. People said he hated Doug Collins and the pressure that MJ put on him, and that in LA he could start new.
Wherever he goes he will be nothing more than a role player, he is a bust!
