The Patriot League autobid still to be decided, teams jockeying for playoff positioning matching up against teams playing for their playoff lives, Celebration Bowl berth possibly on the line, capped off by what figures to be the conference champion game in the UAC and a top 5 tussle in the Big Sky.

What is the AGS game of the week?

Bucknell @ Holy Cross This game looks to decide the Patriot League title race and the autobid to the playoffs. If the Bison can win, they will control their destiny going into the season finale against Colgate. If the Crusaders win, Lehigh will control their own destiny if they can win out.

#18 Stony Brook @ #28 New Hampshire If the Seawolves can win out they should be looking at a top 16 seed and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Wildcats have already been in playoff mode for 2 weeks and need to keep winning to feel comfortable about their at-large chances come selection Sunday.

#6 Incarnate Word @ #35 Stephen F. Austin With the Southland title all but wrapped up, the Cardinals are looking good for a top 8 seed and a first round bye but they need to win out to get it. Like New Hampshire, the Lumberjacks need to win out to feel good about their at-large chances come selection Sunday.

#13 Missouri State @ #1 North Dakota State The Bison look to hang on to the top spot in the polls and, presumably, playoff seeding. The Bears, who may or may not be eligible for the MVFC championship in their final FCS season, have coasted through the weaker parts of the conference and now can play spoiler to close the season (they host SDSU next week).

#33 South Carolina State @ Morgan State The Bulldogs can clinch the MEAC championship and a berth in the Celebration Bowl. If the Bears can win, it sets up a potential 3-way tie atop the league with these 2 teams and North Carolina Central.

#17 Abilene Christian @ #16 Tarleton State The Wildcats can clinch the UAC championship with a win as well as boost their playoff seeding. Top 8 might be out of reach for them, but somewhere in the 10-12 range is well within reach. The Texans may have a shot at a top 8 seed if they can win out, and a win here would also give them complete control of the SLC going into the final week.

#2 Montana State @ #4 UC Davis The Aggies, coming off their impressive win against Montana under the lights at WaGriz, look to claim the Treasure State championship by taking down Montana State. Oh, and also there’s also the small fact that a win here should propel them into the inside track for a top 2 seed and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. The Bobcats have yet to be tested this season, and outside of Idaho their schedule has left the door wide open for detractors to still be able to question them. Any questions about just how good they really are will be answered this week.

1) Correction, the ACU/Tarleton game is for the UAC championship, not the Southland championship.
2) Yes, the game would help with control and seeding. If ACU wins, they win the UAC championship outright and should get a better seed than currently projected. If Tarleton wins, they both get a piece of it and Tarleton would get the better seeding.
3) The rivalry between ACU and Tarleton goes back about 100 years, so this game is HUGE beyond the fight for the current championship. It is the first time we are battling for the championship together in the DI era though and that only fuels the fire.

Montana State/UC Davis is for the Big Sky conference title. The conference does not get into tiebreakers and will have co-champions in the case of a tie, but whoever wins will hold the head to head over the other team with one game left. A lot riding on that game. I pick that one.

There are still tie-breaker in the Big Sky to determine the AQ. If the winner of Davis-MSU were to lose on the final weekend and have both end with one conference loss, they are technically co-champs, but the tie still has to be broken for the AQ. This is moot this year (and most) because both will be in the playoffs regardless, but if the BSC were to ever decline to a 1-bid conference, the tie breakers do exist.

So it does decide the AQ for the conference. The winner is in, the loser will have to wait a week to officially be in. All the more reason for the Game of the Week.xthumbsupx

Mercer at Alabama could have swayed me if it was an option, since I heard Mercer is probably #1 in the FCS based on their dominant performance at Chattanooga, but alas, I had to vote for my AGS.

UC-Davis - Montana State - for very high seeding and more home games

Mercer has played 10 games this year. While beating a Chattanooga Team that should be in the Top 10 was a solid accomplishment, the Bears are the only Team in FCS with 4 Ranked Wins, and the Bears’ Defense / Special Teams has performed well enough to rank as follows in the FCS…

#1 interceptions (21)
#1 TFL’s (85)
#1 3rd down defense (21.4%)
#1 sacks (36)
#1 against the run (54.7 yards per game)
#1 turnovers gained (28)
#1 defensive TD’s (6)
#1 blocked kicks allowed (0)
#1 blocked punts allowed (0)
#2 turnover margin (+1.4/gm)
#3 1st downs defense (139)
#4 passing efficiency defense (104.99)
#7 net punting (41.87)
#7 time of possession (32:42)
#8 punt returns (14.15)
#8 scoring defense (16.6)
#10 total defense (291.5)

In fact, while thinking about this data and your totally not sarcastic comment, FUBeAR decided he was gonna “do a thing.”

So he did.

Had no idea how it was gonna turn out, but the results of the “thing” are interesting. Prolly best to post it in the AGS Poll thread or the How They Fared thread…Hang on … Playoff Prognostication thread might be better…
