YSU ( 3-7, 2-4 MVFC) travels to SIU to play the Dawgs (2-7, 0-5 MVFC). YSU leads the series 20-14-1 and has won 6 of the last 8. YSU won last year 31-3.
Both teams have their problems. Dawgs QB has been injured and they have started a true Frosh the last 3 games. YSUs QB is, for better or worse a Wildcat QB masquerading as a regular QB with strong running skills but limited to only throwing short passes due to arm strength, accuracy and judgement which has lead to him throwing as many INTs as TD passes.
Both teams have shown defensive problems as well. Despite that I look for a limited scoring game. SIU has struggled to win at home while YSU has yet to win on the road.
Preseason I rated this game a tossup but that was before the injuries SIU has endured. Potentially this may be a YSU opportunity to win on the road. Yet as I called earlier, teams will look at YSU given their strong run game and Wildcat QB ability and load the box, putting a Spy on the QB and covering the short pass patterns to shut them down. That is exactly what Illinois St did to beat YSU last week.
Any SIU folks see this game differently ?
