Bubble season has officially begun in the FCS, and this week features many teams that are needing to win out to feel confident their name will be called come selection Sunday. There’s also 2 games that look to be de facto conference championship games (and the auto bid that goes with it), and also games featuring teams that look to be solidly in the field jockeying for playoff positioning.

What is the AGS game of the week?

#23 Western Carolina @ #24 East Tennessee State With both teams sitting at 4 losses, this could very well be an elimination game from the playoff bubble.

Robert Morris @ #28 Duquesne The only 2 teams undefeated in league play, this looks like it could be the NEC championship game. Though Central Connecticut State has to play both teams yet and they are sitting at only one conference loss, so they will have something to say about it as well.

Lehigh @ Holy Cross The Crusaders can all but clinch the Patriot League title, while the Mountain Hawks look to keep their league title hopes alive. If Lehigh can win this week they would force a 3 way tie atop the league, and would then need Holy Cross to beat Bucknell the following week (while winning out themselves of course).

#11 Rhode Island @ Delaware The Rams look to keep rolling, and a win here should catapult them into top 8 seed discussion. The Fighting Blue Hens, uneligible for the playoffs, look to play spoiler to Rhody’s conference title hopes as well as damage their playoff positioning.

#20 Central Arkansas @ #31 Eastern Kentucky The Colonels kept their playoff chances alive last week in handing Tarleton their first FCS loss, and look for another resume building win this week. The Bears, coming off their disastrous blowout loss to previously winless Utah Tech, should probably be thinking they can’t afford any more losses this year if they want to be assured of a playoff spot.

#3 South Dakota State @ #T25 North Dakota After a catastrophic road trip the Fighting Hawks playoff chances are on life support, and it doesn’t get any easier with the 2 South Dakota teams visiting Grand Forks the next 2 weeks. We all know how UND plays drastically different home vs. away, so this could still be a very tough test for the Jackrabbits.

Lamar @ #7 Incarnate Word Like many other teams, the Cardinals (Lamar’s) can ill afford another loss if they want to feel confident in making the playoff field. The Cardinals (Incarnate Word’s) are most likely looking at a top 8 seed if they can win out.

#4 UC Davis @ #9 Montana (on ESPN2) The top of the Big Sky is going to be very interesting to watch over the next few weeks, as the top 3 teams (Montana State, UC Davis, Montana) each have games against the other 2. It gets started this week with a Big Sky After Dark matchup on national TV.

If you are talking straight up GOTW, then I go with UC Davis/Montana. If you are talking bubble teams GOTW then it's either UCA/EKU or WCU/ETSU.

So it has to be between Montana/Davis as a seeding situation or WCU/ETSU as both teams have to win out to even make it. I am obviously a homer, but I expect both Big Sky teams to make the playoffs but only the winner of the SOCON showdown will be in position to get included. Siding with the sudden-deathness matchup.

I played homer and took the Big Sky matchup. The Grizzlies came out of their bye week and have looked strong on both sides of the ball, but against the two patsies of the conference. The Aggies have looked strong since they eked out a win against Portland State. Tough game for both teams, even in the Grizzlies' den. It will be a good one.

Like others to me it came down to WCU/ETSU and UC Davis/Montana. I voted for the top 10 matchup but I wish I would've voted for the SoCon game, as I agree with FUBeAR from another thread that the loser of this game will be better than roughly half the playoff field (assuming the loser does in fact miss the playoffs).

I'm going with the elimination WCU/ETSU game. The Davis Montana game is good, but neither is eliminated...yet. Only Montana might be in danger if they go O'fer to close out. I will say, the Big Sky has some drama the next three weeks. The scheduled worked out perfect, or not, depending on your viewpoint.

I hate to be a homer, but I went with the Davis-UM matchup. It is 2 highly rated teams and important for both in the hunt for a top-8 and 1st round bye. I know to teams on the bubble, those lose-or-go-home games are important, but in the overall championship picture, bubble teams don't historically make deep playoff runs. Conversely, teams playing for a high seed greatly increase their chances of a deep run with a bye and one or more home games from Round 2 and beyond. In that sense, the loser of Davis-UM will have a tougher road to Frisco, with the caveat that both still have a chance to "totally redeem themselves" having MSU yet to play.

I could easily go with either of those. If I didn't go with Davis/Montana, I think the WCU/ETSU definitely has more at stake than the UCA/EKU. I am just curious if UCA can redeem themselves.

UC Davis @ UM

I thought Rhode Island @ Delaware would be 2nd due to me thinking it is an upset alert game.

Delaware is favored in Massey & Sagarin.

Tongue-in-cheek dig at the Rams, wasn’t it? Good job.

The WCU/ETSU game is way bigger IMO.

UCD/MT are more then likely in either way

The only reason I voted WCU/ETSU is so one of these teams will finally have to leave the AGS top 25
