... the best remaining top ranked ACC as well as SEC teams not dancing, as well as top-ranked teams whose Dance autobids were stolen in the conference tournament from top 12 conferences (based on KenPom) are outright shoo-ins to the NIT.

In addition, the regular season conference champions from the other 18 conferences whose Dance autobids were also stolen in the conference tournament are also outright shoo-ins, provided that their average rank across all selected rankings is 125 OR better. The rest of the NIT, if there are still any, falls into the at-larges and voluntary teams who have played well enough but are not good to dance.

Do you think there will be less "back-outs" from the NIT moving forward?

I realize that the NIT was pretty watered down before but it was a good chance for teams who just missed out to play. Now that they overloaded it for the power conferences it has lost a lot of the alure that it once had. Also, the big thing was to play in the Garden. When the Gophers played there it was a big deal. Not now.

There was a time when the NIT was the invite everyone wanted. The NIT with the Marquette Warriors. Al McGuire was the coach. That was basketball.
