Mainejeff congrats on the blowout of Nova, 35-7. Nova scored only points with under 2 minutes left in game. I get exhausted reading about them in the Phila Inquirer. Glad to see they were toasted!

Richmond-Bryant is just not good.
Rhode island-Maine had a very impressive win but I think URI is going to be very hard to beat at home. Was very impressed with them on both sides of the ball. Their QB is young and nothing special but they have the rest of the pieces.
Monmouth- Offense will outscore Towson.
Hampton- Neither team will make the playoffs.
Villanova- takes out anger on UNH team that has a good defense but an inept offense.
SBU- I think they can keep things rolling at home.
SoupU- NCA&T is terrible.
Delaware- Hens eat Danes for breakfast.

Richmond at Bryant- Richmond just blew out Delaware. Monmouth routed Bryant. Monmouth lost to Delaware. 76-0 Richmond!!
Maine at Rhode Island-I think Maine can win but am picking with heart b/c I want to see URI ranked as high as possible when we go up there in 2 weeks and beat them.
Towson at Monmouth-Weird game for us- Towson has played like a top 25 team for 30% of the season and an also ran for the rest. Their season on line. They present some issues for us but we pull it out.
Elon at Hampton- no clue
UAlbany at Delaware-NO CHANCE The Hens can lose 2 i a row, especially to the down and out broken dreams danes.
New Hampshire at Villanova-Do or die for UNH- a win and they are back- but Nova sort of needs this one now.
William and Mary at Stony Brook-Taking Stony here is like buying a stock up 300% in a week- Musical chairs- it ca still work, but can also hurt you bad. I like to gamble.
NC A&T at Campbell-

This is a precursor to the CAA adding a Team from Georgia, isn’t it?
Looking at Fort Valley or Savannah State? Valdosta State would be reluctant to move down, competitively-speaking. Morehouse would be a nice fit and open up the Atlanta market.

What a bunched group we have. Hitting the mid season mark and 7 teams bunched together. Two undefeated in conference and five with a single loss. Feels like the clubhouse turn before we hit the stretch.
Several key games
#16 W&M @ Stony Brook
Series: W&M 4-1
I think the Tribe comes prepared and wins via rushing attack and ball control
UNH @ #13 Villanova
Series: UNH 14-12
I think Villanova wins big. UNH slides from race.
Maine @ #15 URI
Series: 61-36-3
Going with the Bears. I think the late game heroics for URI wear out.
The others:
UAlbany @ Delaware
Series: UD 7-3
Hens in this one. Likely the last October/Saturday game in Newark. Enjoy the pumpkins and sunshine.
Towson @ Monmouth
Series: Tigers 8-2
Could be a shoutout. Hawks avg 45ppg. A win puts the Hawks right up at the top of CAA race. Monmouth wins here but faces challenging final four games.
#18 Richmond @ Bryant
First and likely last game.
Spiders keep creeping along.
Elon @ Hampton
Series: Elon 2-0
No kickoff returns for Elon in this one. Pirates have scored 103 points last 2 games, win here.
NC A&T @ Campbell
Series: 1-1
Both 0-3 in CAA but Campbell’s been competitive in all vs URI, SBU and W&M. Camels roll.

What a tremendous sequence for Villanova. First, they come up with a goal line stand to stop New Hampshire to preserve their 7-3 lead. Then the Wildcats drive 99 yards on the ensuing drive to score a soul crushing (for UNH) touchdown to extend their advantage to 14-3.

Well Towson cracked the Monmouth Offensive code- what an AWFUL game. As those here that follow me know I was bullish on Towson and scared of this game. They seem different every game- today it was their defense that impressed me. A season low in yards and points for us and only 56 rushing yards. Ironically, The MU defense not only played well enough to win but pretty good, limiting Towson to 357 yards of Offense and 26 points ands 10 pts came on very short fields.
Monmouth came out flat and stayed that way- Towson was not overwhelming or even "eye test" great but their D was good and Offense capable and credit to them for picking themselves up off the a$$ kicking they took last week to come and keep their season alive. Now Monmouth has just one path to The playoffs and it is to go 4-0 over the last 4 games against URI, UNH, NOVA and Stony Brook which may be the hardest 4 game stretch of any team. Not a good time to lay an egg and we go from on the verge of breaking out to on the verge of having this whole thing blow up badly. Demoralizing.

Hawks, not a good look at all. Let’s just say I won’t be posting any Monmouth highlights anywhere on this website this week. I saw parts of your game yesterday and kept waiting for that offense to get going, but it just never did. Towson is ok, kind of pedestrian in my opinion and to inconsistent
What Billy Cosh has done at Stony Brook is nothing short of miraculous. The question is how long will he be at Stony Brook? They throttled William & Mary yesterday out on dreary Long Island, not my kind of island but that’s another story. It seems like Virginia teams have a rough time playing at Stoner Brook, and that goes back to the days of Danny Rip Van Rocco at Richmond.
I think Richmond emptied the bench early yesterday against hapless Bryant, in my opinion, the Spiders are the team to beat right now giving them the edge over Rhode Island
What’s going on up at New Hampshire? They have plateaued

My takes:
Agree on Stony Brook, they are getting stronger each week. Definitely a program on the rise. From what I read, they played with much more intensity than the Tribe. That’s coaching, not location. This was W&Ms 4th game @SBU and just our first loss there.
Villanova and URI keep finding ways to win.
Hampton scored over 40+ points for 3rd straight week.
Towson is like a box of chocolates.
Bryant is an embarrassment on all fronts.

Stony Brook about to do the unthinkable and make the FCS playoffs -- likely 1st round opponent for the Patriot. I think W&M has to win out now to get in. Lucky for them, the schedule softens up with 3 games they should win by double digits on paper, before heading into the Richmond game.
UNH looked like a decent, middle-of-the-pack CAA team when I saw them play at Holy Cross. By no means a bad team -- solid run game, good defense, just nothing spectacular and slightly below average for 21st Century UNH football expectations.

Very emotional response yet again- focusing mostly on stuff that JUST happened in most cases with very little foresight- again, not to be a prik but that is like saying it is raining when it is raining out. Richmond- did not hear much from you after pedestrian wins against Elon, Del State, NCA&T or a Wofford loss- But then they beat YOU and beat a patheti Bryant team and they are the team to beat? In reality all they did was beat you, b/c Bryant?
The Stony Brook story is indeed great and the coach is making it work but this seems more like an Albany situation then it does really building a program so I hope for their sake they get it done now, b/c they have 31, yes you read that right 31 guys from The portal/juco (mostly portal).. That has never been a recipe for real success but so far it is working this year.
As for us- I mean I am our harshest critic, albeit not here- but we laid an egg and teams do that. You guys did so the week before at Richmond- You will say Richmond is legit and Towson is not but the FACTS show that Richmond has beaten a bunch of patsies. But yes, we were flat and never recovered, but it is only an opinion that Towson is "ok"- the actual results and facts show that they have played very close football games with some of the better FCS programs and even a decent FBS program. So while this was a very poor showing on our part, to say "not a good look" to me implies we went out and lost to Bryant or Bucknell or Wagner. Before you tell me I am reading into things too much, I think I am just responding to exactly what you said. I still maintain, Towson is a good football team, who yes, is inconsistent but capable of beating almost anyone- The reason they looked "ehh" was b/c when two good teams play each other it looks average (see the NDSU/SDSU game) the reason both looked blah IMO was b/c it was good on good. I love you but you are so week to week and emotional on things sometimes.

Spiders not too good at Stony over the years. Seemed someone always thought a six- or seven-hour bus ride was the best idea. Finally flew last year but still had to block an extra point for a one point win, using 3 QBs with the last one being a walkon, that somehow drug them to the win, after several losses on a row.

Bryant is an embarrassment on all fronts.SBU, who won 1 game over the last two years, has gotta be a national story. Cosh made a lot of wise choices in terms of players and staff and it shows. There is some talent on the team (esp running back and receivers) and QB from Georgetown is solid but he seems to be a great motivator.
Things move very quickly…another year he could be head coach in the MAC.

Rhode Island just might be, my coin landed on Richmond. Rhode Island has been close for like how many years now? and they always seem to come up short. Richmond has a pretty good head coach and they looked very solid against Delaware, that's why I went with them. I will not be placing any bets though.

Fleming sounded very grounded on the weekly call which is good- Our backs are firmly against the wall and I am NOT saying you guys have leeway (you do) and hence it sets up as a win for us, but I do think that stuff matters. Our leadership (coaching) is also veteran and they will have us ready so I expect our "A" game- If URI can match up with that then you are the real deal. Or maybe I am wrong and last week was the start of a serious skid and blowup for us. Last time our backs were to the wall was before The Maine game. I have seen URI play a bit and just think the matchup favors us. Maybe Towson provided the code on how to stop our Offense? Who really knows- clearly none of us on here know much, including me but that is how I really feel (that we are much much better than we were before, during and after Towson) and we will show up Saturday. Football at this time of year is about peaking and playing your best at the right time- I know URI feels it has not played its best and we sure as hell do not- and last week despite it being pretty close was as flat as I have seen our team pretty much ever. Maybe I am vastly underestimating URI- I may be. But I feel we win by 2-3 scores.

No idea what the future holds, but just want to give Cosh credit for also keeping the team together despite only winning 2 games in 2 years and through a coaching change. He convinced a number of players to stay at SBU after initially putting their names in the portal. In the end we returned most of the 2 deep from the 2023 season with one big exception LB kaler who went to Charlotte. Cosh then brought in 10 transfers. The other 21 are returning transfers from the Priore era.

Plateaued is an overstatement for how the offense has played the last 3 games, I'd say basemented. The Defense is playing lights out, but no one is home on offense. The starter at QB, Seth Morgan, and the #2, Matt Vezza, were both injured after the URI game. Morgan looked broken all game and was probably not right - He showed up the next Saturday @ Villanova on the sidelines wearing street clothes and his arm in a sling. The 3rd String QB, (Barry Kleinpeter) who played the whole Nova game is a run first guy who moved the the team at times. But we were stopped 3 times 1st down, goal-to-go inside the ten. Each time going for it on 4th. No idea who will play QB vs Albany, Kleinpeter took a beating trying to pound through the Nova DL about 12 times. The D gave up 10 points vs Elon, and 14 vs Villanova. We gave up 26 points vs URI, but 9 of those were from a mishandled punt at our goal line (TD) and a blocked punt (Safety).

great summary
people on gohens suggesting it's Carty's fault on why there have been so many QB injuries or the training staff. I would say no... people get hurt playing football but from where I sit watching games, that field turf looks pretty hard compared to the old beautiful green grass fields. players are bigger stronger and more physical and certain QB's body types are probably more prone to injury ....

Portal management and reloading is what it's all about now, Cosh has shown us he can do it and that bodes well for Stony into the future

Maybe Cosh learned it when he came over to Spiders from VMI and brought an all-star team with him (Udinski and Herres). Not to mention Degenaro coming as a young guy when Udinski told him he was heading to Spiders.
Stony likely hit gold mine when they got Cosh.

SBU (Cosh) picked up some very nice receivers and pretty solid QB from the portal while the very good RB and very good TE are holdovers from Priore.

I remember Herres at VMI and he had a great season for your Richmond Spiders

Boy howdy, that's aggressive
Whats up Rhowdy Ram- I am never going to run from my opinions and predictions (like the Kennesaw fool did a few years ago)- So First off, Congratulations on getting to 8-1 and although I understand URI fans will not rest until you either win the CAA or get to 9 wins to secure the birth 100%, you all but lock up a playoff spot. Must feel goo and you could tell there is a noticeably more exciting atmosphere surrounding the program.
This is probably the most disappointing loss of the year for us in my view b/c I think it was pretty obvious we were 1 play and 1 yard away from probably putting the game away (when we were up 28-17 in the 3rd around your 35 and had 3rd and 2 and once again 2 obvious play calls and you stopped us) Credit to URI for stopping us but once again we go into some conservative bizarre shell at big times.
I thought neither team played very well but the difference was URI had a real pass rush and solid defense and we did not. I hate when people make excuses about games like "that play the ref totally messed up" and things like that. With that said, I do think we shot ourself in the foot several times while URI made some great plays at key times. Some examples- You must have had 3 maybe 4 3rd and long conversions where the WR or TE toe tapped on a great catch to keep the drive alive. Conversely we had several mis thrown balls and/or drops that are inexcusable. I thought our pay calling was very suspect at big times most notably being the one above where we make that, we probably go onto score and put the game away. The other time was getting the ball back with 2 minutes to go in the first half and all our timeouts with a lead. Sure we were on our own 10, but "elite" offenses simply dont go into a shell like we did- (we are not elite). Then after giving up the go ahead score to make it 31-28 we drive the ball to your 45 and have an unforced fumble by our QB which is his 4th turnover at a big time in big games- Ive seen that be called a forward pass before but also a fumble.. It was probably the right call and Boom, game over. The truth is we would have lost by 21-24 without getting the turnovers we did but ironically you may have lost by 21-24 had we just made 1-2 key plays at the right time.. Momentum took over and we do what Monmouth does which is fold under pressure. I was impressed overall by URI Defense, not so much the Offense- as crazy as that sounds after letting up 31 points, we have a horrible D. Anyway nice going and this must be exciting times for URI- Best to you the rest of the way. Program crushing loss for us- we refused to take them game and be great- you guys never stopped fighting. The right team won as much as it pains me to say.

well Hawks, you do always comeback to take your meds and yes, totally unlike that showman Hooty Boo Hoo
Monmouth is really on the front porch and knocking on the door, they just need to get over that hump.... the same way Delaware needs to get over it when it comes to Nova
How are they going to do it?

If you were not moving to FBS the "hump" for you would be being able to beat a top dog to compete for natty. Being this is a nothing year for you, I guess the Nova game becomes the natty- something tells me you will get over it this year but either way, succeed or fail, it is not to be worried about anymore.. For us man, I have no answers- just thoughts. My first thought is we have a crap culture- we do not have a winning culture and not sure how that changes. I think our in game coaching has been suspect at times, but overall I cannot put blame on coaching fully b/c they are exceptional recruiters so its chicken and the egg- Do you want better in game coaching and culture with lesser? I dont know really. Honestly man I really have no clue but since 2021 the year before we entered The CAA look at this:
2021- 7-4 (31-28 loss to Princeton in which we led 21-6)
2022- 5-6 (31-21 loss to UNH in which we led 21-17) (52-49 loss to Fordham in which we led 49-45 late) (48-46 7 OT loss to URI) (52-48 loss to Towson)
2023- 4-7 (45-31 loss to Campbell in which we were up 23-7) (28-20 loss to Lafayette) (28-26 loss to Elon) (31-28 loss to W&M) (31-24 loss to UNH)
2024 - 4-5 (42-27 loss to EWU driving with ball throw pick with 2 min left) (40-35 loss to Lafayette in which we led 35-28 with 1:50 left) (42-35 loss to Delaware havign chance to tie or win) (26-14 loss to Towson in which we turn ball over going in to take lead) and now yesterday which was 37-28 but that is misleading b/c theys cored on last play scoop score on one of those 15 lateral tyoe plays to end game but we were down 31-28 with ball at midfield with plenty of time and turn ball over)
Some can just look at in and say "its the defense" but the truth is the defense played well enough to win several of these games. I do not have the answers but we simply rarely win close games or are able to keep foot on the pedal and I think it is culture- but I have no answers. I do NOT think it is talent- meaning- I do not think we are "over achieving" being in these games, I think we are under achieving not capitalizing on them..
It stings- I know I should not care so much about some mid major FCS Football team but I do..

haha wow! very rare for you to talk smack! I guess being 5-4 and once again "alive" for the post season will do that to a fan. Especially after being written off and with 3 winnable games but games that will count as decent to good wins if so. You may very well get the Monmouth that has conceded or given up which will be goo for you. We are reeling. Very banged up all of a sudden but not so sure more than anyone else, we just do not handle it well. Its a simple recipe KPSUL- pressure Robertson and its essentially over.

It should be an interesting game! This is the best UNH defense in a decade, and I know at times, Monmouth has had the best offense in the CAA. A couple of weeks ago, I might have called this one for Monmouth, but UNH QB starter, Seth Morgan was back yesterday, and throwing better than our debacle @ URI and certainly better than our loss to Villanova with our run first rookie at the helm.
I'd say UNH needs about 24 points on the board to ensure a win unless the offense turns the ball over deep in our end, (or in the end zone) a couple times. Robertson has faced UNH one time before and statistically he played well: 63% completions, 315 yards, 3 TDs, 1 Interception thrown, sacked 3 times. -38 yards rushing. Although Maine lost 25 - 44. It will also be an interesting matchup Saturday, based on where the two teams find themselves. Monmouth could play lights out, like they have nothing to lose, and being 4-5 overall 2-3 in the conference they really don't. For UNH, they've been like this numerous times before and ended up in the playoffs. A couple of wins at home and then all you have to do is beat Maine in the last game of the season- easy-peasy! Confidence could be sky high. To be honest, the expectation for the 2024 UNH team has really been sneaking into the playoffs on the last Saturday of the regular season in the 17-24 level, possibly getting one win if we get a lucky game one draw.

If your D is as good as you say it is- then we may as well not even play- ANY defense that is somewhat good, the way our D is, and it is game set match. No BS reverse jinx here it is just the truth. We have regressed badly the last 2 weeks. Delaware D was decent but for whatever reason we were able to move the ball well and score. Towson D was decent but was able to apply pressure and that was the recipe. URI D is decent to perhaps good and we did whatever we wantd for 2.5 quarters and then BOOM , they started to get pressure, we made some drops and it was all she wrote. The irony here (and in football in general) is that we were all just saying in first few weeks "if only our D could be average we would be a top team).. well we held Towson to 26, they made enough plays against Delaware in a relative sense and actually forced 3 turnovers against URI and make a couple key stops and it is now our Offense that cannot capitalize. Things do not feel good now and UNH/MU headed in exact opposite mental directions as you sort of pointed out.

As far as mental direction, I tried to point out two possibilities - don't disregard the nothing to lose attitude for Monmouth which can and has been very successful. We'll have to see how that develops, but Home Field should help UNH. Rushing the passer, and doing it with the 4 guys up front has been a strength for UNH - we have one DE, Josiah Silver, who has more Sacks and Tackles For Loss than the entire Monmouth team. But our offense was not very productive vs URI or Villanova, and although we won, also against Elon for most the game. Monmouth is 1st in total offense and last in defense but you still net a +7 when you subtract the defense numbers from the offense. UNH is about even. So I'd say the outcome is far from certain.
