I think I heard on ESPN this morning that Mets are leading the talks for Santana (though as we know, this may change by the second). Seems like they are willing to give up 3 prospect pitchers plus another player in the MLB (can't remember who) and maybe a 5th player for Santana. As a Mets fan, I would not be happy to see them lose that many prospects.

The package that's been widely reported is: Carlos Gomez (OF), Philip Humber (SP), Kevin Mulvey (SP) and Delios Guerra (SP).
I'm a Mets fan too, but I would make that trade for Santana. The Mets simply aren't going to find a #1 pitcher in their own system or via Free Agency not this year, not next year and probably not even the year after that. While giving up all of these prospects leaves the cupboard bare we would still have one high prospect: Fernando Martinez and a couple of good prospects: Mike Pelfrey, Eddie Kunz. Keep in mind the Mets also have 3 first round picks in this year's draft (thanks Braves!).
Should the Mets snag Santana they would then have a very serviceable group of players 30 and under that should make them highly competitive for the next 4 to 5 years while they rebuild the farm:
SP: Santana, Maine, Perez
Position Players: Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Church
RP: Heilman, Sanchez, Feliciano, Joe Smith
The problem is that the Twins are probably going to demand Fernando Martinez in the deal along with those other 4 players. In which case I think it makes the cost a little too high. We'll see what happens.

On Santana the buzz is that the Twins sometime early this week will inform the Sox, Yanks and Mets that their final best offers are needed and a final decision will be made 10 days from today.

I keep reading the Twins keep insiting on Gomez and Martinez being included in the deal, which seems to fit the MO they been pulling with the Yanks and Boston.

Santana will wind up a Met... xnodx
The Twins don't want to face him every year for the next 7 seasons and who would...
Plus the Mets are giving up the FARM..!!!(and have draft choices this year) as you mentioned

I'd be fine with him being a Met, that would mean the Yankees didnt get him and the Sox still have Ellsbury :D

Let him be a Met. Worst case scenario is facing him in the World Series.

Twins just signed Morneau and Cuddyer for 6 and 3 years. They had the money because Torii Hunter left. They want to trade Santana prior to Spring Training.
