I'm thinking about going up to Harrisonburg for the game on September 20th. Any ideas on motels/hotels that are within a reasonable walking distance to the stadium? Thanks.

You better start looking now...might be to late.
Try to get one of the hotels located on Evelyn Bird, or the Hampton Inn on University. Thats about as close as you are going to get (15 min walk). The problem is that the Stadium is located in the middle of campus and nothing but buildings, the interstate, and more buildings within a short walk.

Make sure you can get a ticket(s). I understand ASU will only be allotted about 1000 tickets and distribution will go first to Yosef members.

For a big game like this...it might be too late. But you can always try the closer ones first and move progressively further away from campus if you need to in order to find a room. Harrisonburg has a great cab service...so you can still tailgate and have a "good time" without worrying about walking 3 miles to and from the stadium.

1,000 tickets that better be a joke. ASU allotted about 2,000 to JMU in 2006 and 2007. I think ASU would bring 3K if they gave us the tickets after the game we had in the playoffs.

You see, this is why we need a bigger stadium. ASU has a lot more seats to give away!

I dont know about ASU or JMU, but when I go on road trips I call Towson Athletics and find out where the team si staying. I can usually get lumped in with the team group rate.
Just sayin'

We've got our hotel reservations in Harrisonburg ... now for the tickets. If it works like the Michigan tickets with Yosef members getting first dibs, all should be well.

In all fairness, in 2007 I think the NCAA allotted us those tickets. But, I understand that 1,000 is a small number for ASU and I'm not sure if that's accurate. We do have a pretty small visitor's section so that could be it.

Yes, as in a VERY VERY small visitors section. I'd be surprised if it fit 1,000 people.
