Lafayette came out in the second hand and ran off 13 straight points to go up by 14, 41-27. The young Mountain Hawks, rather than being rattled, caught their breath and roared back outscoring the Leopards 33-14 over the final 15 minutes to win 60-55. Lafayette now falls to 4-1 and likely tie with Bucknell who was leading Colgate. Lehigh moves to 3-2.
Mountain Hawks freshman guard Prentiss Small showed a great deal of maturity and playmaking skills and new HC Reed gets a lot of credit in having the team keep their confidence and coming back to win. With only one senior, the future is looking good for Brown & White basketball.
Attendance was approximately 3,500; by far the largest crowd this year with alot of intensity. Also in the crowd was a large contingent of football recruits taking in the atmosphere of the Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry. A nice introduction.

I was at the game - a very big Lafayette contingent definitely made the crowd bigger - it felt like more than half the crowd, at least from where I was sitting.
We need to repay the favor on 2/23 at their place.
On a separate but related note, this is the first time in a while where it seems like there isn't 1-2 elite teams that no one else can touch. '03-'04 was the last time the champ had more than one regular season loss...

Actually, there don't really seem to be any elite teams in the League this year. Coming into League play I would have said Holy Cross, but they've looked more than mortal (here's hoping they stay quite mortal on Wednesday xprayx), while Bucknell has certainly had their issues as well.
Could be a very interesting year xnodx

I was sitting in the west endzone and would estimate Lafayette had about 750 or so..virturally the entire lower and upper levels behind the Lafayette bench. I would expect the rematch in Kirby should be close to a sellout there, assuming both are still in the hunt at the time.

Holy Cross has been crippled by serious injuries to two of their starters--especially and achilles problem with Pat Doherty their point guard who is a great ball handler. That can have a lot of impact on a team's offense. Should the Crusaders get healthy you have to give them the nod in the tournament. However, by tourney time, alot of youngsters will have been able to grow up and we could see some real tight games all over.

Patriot League is wide open this year. Lehigh certaintly has a shot if they can find some consistent scoring.
Didn't American beat Maryland this year? I've seen the Terps play a couple times this year and have no idea how that one happened. xoopsx They're not even a good PL team this year. This is the worst the PL's been since Lehigh won it in '03-'04.

No doubt, but even with Doherty back, they still lost at home to Army. I realize Army's better, but HC should be winning games at home like that. They could find themselves in trouble if/when they go on the road for the Tournament Semis or Final (if not the 1st Round xeekx )

Right now, the PL is ranked 21st in the RPI. In the last 9 years (2007 back to 1999), we've finished 17th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, 26th, 27th, 24th, 25th, 23rd. We'll probably drop a bit as schedules become more insular, but really, we're right about where we've usually been. Last year was just that good, I guess xchinscratchx
