MIAMI --
The mother of South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier has died. Marjorie Orr Spurrier was 86, died of natural causes Thursday in the northeast Florida town of Green Cove Springs, according to a statement from the funeral home.
She was a founding member of Pinewood Presbyterian Church in nearby Middleburg and used to serve as choir director and pianist, according to her family.
Steve Spurrier is widely credited for revolutionizing the Southeastern Conference with his innovative, wide-open passing attack and led the Florida Gators to their first national title in 1996.
As a player, Steve Spurrier won Florida's first Heisman Trophy in 1966, returned as coach in 1990 and won 122 games in 12 seasons. He then became head coach of the NFL's Washington Redskins and moved to South Carolina in 2005.
Majorie Spurrier was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Graham Spurrier. Her survivors include three grown children.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at Pinewood Presbyterian Church.
I heard a Rumor that BVG was going BACK to USC and ran across this posted in their message board. I am still looking for a link.
