There's some deep pocketed donors in Sacramento who are pulling out all the stops to get Sac State to move up to FBS and things are moving fast for them so far. Raising $35 million in less than 24 hours is amazing to say the least!

I don’t buy that they went from zero in the coffers to 35 mill in 24 hours. They had this lined up and just made the announcement once all the dotted lines were signed. However I’d still like to see a breakdown on where the money came from.

It'll be interesting to see if the money keeps coming in if they don't get an FBS invite.

To be fair, this is typically how all fundraising at the nonprofit and higher ed goes. There's an 80-20 rule (or more) when it comes to donations. A few big wigs donate the most, and their top line numbers help anchor fundraising pushes (i.e "we have $8,000 of our $10,000 goal can you pitch in $100 to meet our goal? We have all received these messages before).
Also, California is a rich and populous state! It's a weird interplay of housing, tech jobs, and a state constitutional amendment limiting property tax increases, along with the fact that the state is the most populous in the union. I'm not surprised they can whip that much money up so fast, but it's also worth reiterating that that money doesn't go as far in California because of the high cost of living - at least relative to the rest of the country.

If Sac State does indeed move to the Pac##, don't be surprised if they rebrand their athletic teams.
Perhaps "California State" ! xsmiley_wix

This. It's same the way the old Jerry Lewis telethon worked. They didn't literally raise all that money in one weekend. They just rolled it out in portions as they checked as they went to the big board.

I used to hate the Jerry Lewis telethon because it meant that summer was over. :(

Andy who? xlolx
I used to work for a TV station that ran the Jerry Lewis deal, doing the local 15-20 minute cut-ins. It paid reasonably well and we snacked like kings for the duration but you're essentially awake and working for 36 hours straight.

Team Aggie donors and season ticket holders received an email today form the AD, Rocko DeLuca, which essentially said that UC Davis is not currently pursuing a move up to FBS.
Over the past few weeks, there has been significant media coverage regarding conference realignment, particularly regarding the Mountain West Conference and the Pac-12 Conference. I’ve also heard from many of you about the possibility of UC Davis making a move to FBS football. While the possibility may be exciting, such a significant and expensive transition decision cannot be driven by public campaigns or stadium expansions, as there are many reasons and factors that play a role in such a transition.
The best path forward to ensure the future of UC Davis Athletics is through increased fan and donor support. Many of our conference rivals have some of the largest FCS season ticket bases in the country. Across the causeway, they've raised $35M to support their student-athletes’ name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities. We have the coaches and campus leadership in place to meet any opportunity presented to us in the ever-changing landscape of college athletics.

At least both Causeway rivals tried. But the rumors are now false... xsighx
