I told everyone on the Gamecock boards this guy can't be trusted.

VanGorder leaving USC to return to Falcons

Of all the jobs Brian VanGorder has held in the past three years, his stint at USC turned out to be the shortest.

VanGorder, hired by Steve Spurrier on Dec. 19 as the Gamecocks' defensive coordinator, has told Spurrier he intends to leave USC to take the same post with new Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith, a source told The State today.

VanGorder worked with Smith with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005, one of five jobs VanGorder has held since January 2005. VanGorder was the Falcons' linebackers coach this past season under Bobby Petrino, who bolted for Arkansas with three games remaining in the NFL season. Smith was hired by the Falcons on Wednesday.

Attempts to reach VanGorder for comment were unsuccessful

That ought to put him right up there as Lord of the Douchebags! And most people thought Nick Saban was a weasel for following the $$$ when he left the Dolphins for the Bama gig.

This just gives me another two reasons to pull for the Saints next year.

Not saying I expected this. But I did. Unbelievable.

Spurrier is pissed.

He said he will have a replacement in about an hour or two.

When I saw this, I went back and found the article from less than a month ago about him going to South Carolina. Yet again, the Falcons do something really stupid. I thought they would have learned from Bobby Petrino.

VanGorder says he's ready to settle down

It's an important decision everyone must make at some point in life, preferably earlier than Brian VanGorder has, and without the need to add Mayflower Van Lines to speed dial in the process.

Are you a pro guy or a college guy?

Simple enough. Those are the two distinct hemispheres of the football world, dividing those who watch as well as those who coach.

VanGorder, 48, kept you guessing, bouncing between both like a blindfolded terrier. But clearly the time has come for some kind of last word.

So, which is it, Coach?

"I'm a college guy," he said this week, with an almost relieved smile.

Are you sure? Is this a formal declaration, the final draft, the one we can commit to parchment?

"I've declared. I'm committed," VanGorder chuckled.

He belongs in the NFL, where it's all about the money and who you can screw over to get it.

He'd better hope he never decides to consider the NCAA again, at least while Spurrier is still around. I imagine Steve could pretty easily screw up another venture into college by Van Doom.

The biggest POS on the planet. The Falcons won't win a game next year with him as the DC.

Don't be so hard on the poor guy, he had no choice, "there is no option"xlolx

This is a man who wouldn't let Jayson Foster touch the ball last year.

Of course, I was looking forward to Wofford playing USC this year, running the option against a BVG defense.

Well, it didn't take long to replace that scumbag.

Personally, I'm glad he is gone.

SOS held a 4pm presser, announced Ellis Johnson will be the new DC.

Ellis graduated from The Citadel, and had coaching stints with Alabama, Clemson, HC at The Citadel, and last year was the DC at Miss State.

Last month, he was hired by Arkansas as their new DC. I guess the Razorback fans are now calling Ellis a scumbag for staying at his new job for only a month.

Arkansas calling people scumbags? They need to go and check who their head coach is!

Insane.

Here is how all this started:

Bobby Petrino leaves the Falcons to be the head coach at Arkansas after Houston Nutt left there to be head coach at Ole Miss. Brian VanGorder leaves the Falcons where he was LB coach to be the DC at USC after Tyrone Nix leaves USC to be the DC at Ole Miss. Meanwhile, Petrino hires Ellis Johnson to be the DC at Arkansas after he leaves Miss St.

The Falcons hire Mike Smith, who was the DC of the Jaguars, to be head coach. His wife is supposedly the sister of VanGorder's wife. VanGorder used to coach linebackers under Smith in Jacksonville before leaving to be head coach at Georgia Southern before leaving to be LB coach in Atlanta.

Smith then hires VanGorder, who leaves USC after less than three weeks on the job to go back to Atlanta to be DC there. Spurrier then hires Ellis Johnson from Arkansas to be the DC at USC. And now, Petrino, who started this whole fiasco by leaving the Falcons to go to Arkansas, has no DC.
