Currently, Frisco, TX has an option to extend the hosting rights of the FCS Championship Game to after the 2026 season. But due to this development, can the FCS Championship be moving to a new stadium after the current contract expires, or even sooner?

Read that Tampa might put a bid in? Not sure the legitimacy to that claim.

hey its kinda cool to see a dusting of snow on game day at NC. I went down to cheer NDSU in their first championship in Jan 2012. The temps were chilly my stay, especially evening - I think game day it was 45 but sunny. I still have some NDSU fan's gloves that were left in stands.

The new Toyota Stadium would make a great venue, but Orlando would be great for semis.

My inkling is that if the big four move up it may just move.

The big four have big fan bases too, if they do go, you can foresee some future FCS title games with a lot of empty seats. Imagine Villanova versus Weber State, I know that I don’t do all that bad but it’s late

Sadly based on the NCAA announcement (https://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/2024-10-02/ncaa-announces-more-240-host-site-selections)made today, no updates for future FCS championship venues have been announced yet.

It sounds like Frisco will be unavailable for 2026 and 2027 based on the construction timeline.

Maybe this relatively new stadium in downtown Orlando would work as a temporary replacement. It seats 25,000.

So…you’re saying do an “FCS Final Four” in Orlando over the Christmas / New Years Week with 2 the Semi-Finals and the Championship game being played, say, 5 days apart … doing a multi-pronged ‘deal’ with Disney Parks / Disney Resorts and ESPN, including a dedicated online exchange, where fans can buy/sell Final Four packages depending on their Teams’ participation status, while also eliminating Thanksgiving weekend Playoff games AND finding the right motivations / timing / structure to gain the participation of the MEAC, SWAC, and Ivy Champions.

FUBeAR loves it! Great idea SB!!!

I think it's unlikely the championship moves out of Frisco anytime soon - I'm guessing the bid they put in is pretty massive. I recall in the early 2010 game tickets were in the $40 range - today it's $100 per ticket or more after fees no matter where you sit. Frisco has made bank on this game and I'm guessing their bids, relative to what were when they first got the game, are indicative of that.

I would assume they'll make what accommodations they need to in order to host the game while it is under construction. The JMU/NDSU championship game after the 2017 season was played while the south endzone renovations were still ongoing and the JMU/Youngstown St championship game was played while the south endzone was torn down.

I said in the past: SMU's venue (34,000) could be an option. teams and fans could basically use the same airport and hotels.

I've always said Louisville KY would be the spot. It's the center of all FCS milage wise. Great airport, hotels, and venues. Bourbon Trail to boot. Lynn family Stadium ~15K is state of the art. U of L stadium is way too big.

Jan in Louisville is not extremely bad weather. Hell it was -6 last time I was in Frisco..

Just a thought..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20241004/399bbe66ef35b2cb1f964f9af387142b.jpg

My guess is that the FCS will move from Frisco when Frisco wants it to move. If the FCS becomes like D2 due to conference realignment, I could see that happening and maybe moving east.

What I'm interested to see is, if the "Big 4" move up (which seems less likely now than 3 weeks ago), what schools fill in the power vacuum. The following schools all could look prime to be perennial contenders in a handful of years:

USD
UND
UNI
UC Davis
Tarleton
Abilene
Incarnate Word
Mercer
Furman
W&M
Villanova
North Alabama
ETSU
Chatty

Plus, how about a couple of old school 1990's I-AA powers => Youngstown and McNeese

I don't think championship game attendance will be a huge problem, the "big four" are just on a whole other level when it comes to that.
