Our defense played ok, but our offense was inept in the first half. Better adjustments earlier and this could have been a different game. Congrats to Idaho on a tough road win.

ISUr beats EIU 31-7 ... finally put together a nice all around game, after initially reeling from lot of key injuries. Dominant performance .. first downs were 28 to 9, total yards were 518 to 192. They got 4 first downs on their first drive, and just 5 on their last 10 drives. Our stats were as smidge better than U of I's 45-0 thrashing of EIU, and much better than Northwesterns who beat them by same 31-7 score.

Anyway, good to finally play well ... been a rough start. Sitting 3-1 and have Bison coming to town.

I don't know what the conversion rate from the 7 is but I'd guess it's significantly less then the roughly 50% it is from the 2. So if you miss the attempt from the 7 yard line, you all but guarantee a loss in the (unlikely) event WCU can get a FG & TD. If you kick it you at least make WCU make a decision on a TD, and you still have a 50% chance of stopping them if they do go for 2.

I was also surprised after the penalty, but I also understand the logic from both sides. WCU had not been nearly as dynamic in the 2nd half, but we certainly could have sent Tamarez (#4) deep 2 or 3 times and scored quickly - not sure why we didn't just keep going to that well to either get big gains or draw more PI calls. But devil's advocate says you go for 2 there becuase you think the other team really might score quickly and then try the onsides kick. Our kicking game was not good (hasn't been very good through 4 games honestly), so most likely Western would have tried to score 2 TDs and going for 1 or 2 probably didn't matter either way.

One of my hotter takes is that if you’re up 1 and score a touchdown, you should go for 2 to possibly stretch the lead to 2 scores. Seems like a better bet than kicking the XP, but it never happens. When i saw here that the grizz when for 2 i thought it was something like that, but apparently not.
