The floundering Penguins of YSU play at Pitt on Saturday. Pitt leads the series 4-1. However YSU butt kicked them 31-17 in 2012 and lost in OT in 2017. The win in 2012 was under the Wolf who was recruiting superior players and passing on low level talent local players, which did not set well politically.

Fast forward to today where the coaches have stocked the cupboard with 29 area players of limited abilities and feature a team with no D and no QB. Pitt will whip YSU very easily.

While there are a couple of changes in this weeks game notes, they will not materially change the outcome of the game. I’m expecting a bad loss after the joke of a game vs Duquesne. After this butt kicking , I expect the game crowd to disappear and actual butts in seats attendance to fall off. The coach, who just received a 4 year contract extension from the head clown AD, shall be going forward formally referred to as Mr. Principal, has shown the abilities of a poor recruiter and a coach lacking in depth as a HC, clearly out of his league.

2024 and for several years ahead will in history be referred to as “ the Dark Ages”.

The YSU -Pitt game has several local connections. Pitts coach , Pat Narduzzi, is a former YSU player where he started and lead YSU and the Ohio Valley Conference in tackles as a Frosh in 1985. His Dad was YSU coach Bill Narduzzi, who YSU fired. Pat transferred out and finished his career at Rhode Island before starting his coaching career.

Narduzzi never forgot it as his Dad had cancer and died of it. This will not be a meeting of hearts and flowers, lol. Narduzzi is 2-0 all time against YSU.

Over the years, several players have transferred between the schools, both ways. Pitt covers the YSU area recruiting and often gets what limited talent now is here over YSU.

YSU faces a Pitt QB Holstein who threw for over 300 yds against WVU in last weeks “ Backyard Brawl.” He also threw for 3 TDs. While Pitt will throw on YSU, expect them to run on YSUs porous D. Many teams will find YSUs run D to be terrible vs last years D that was nationally ranked against the run.

Former YSU starting DT Anthony Johnson , 6’3, 300 ,transferred out of YSU last year to Pitt and has now started one game at DT while playing in two other games. Pitt is unbeaten at 3-0.

Pitt also has a new OC, Kade Bell from WCU, Kerwin Bell's son, he took with him our best running back Desmond Reid, & best WR - Censere Lee.

4. Mr. principal got a 4 year contract extension and he is in over his head. Things will get worse.
5. I predicted a 5-7 record in preseason. This may be a rare year where I’m wrong. MVFC may prevent winning 5 games.

Agreed. If the QB gets wrecked in MVFC play, perhaps the other kid will get the nod

Well, my disappointments:

1. Defense.. I was hopeful they'd jell. Watching their performance the last 4 games I can only say slow undersized pussies. The mass exodus last year, I wasn't too concerned with the loss with the exception of 3 or 4 players. Replacing the D coordinator, I also thought it could be a plus..

2. Offense.. that experienced Oline is a huge disappointment. I get it. The QB is weak, but I'm not sure a young Tom Brady would be successful behind it. Run production is a problem with a stacked box, but no protection is provided for passing hell, Valpo pressured the Guins.

3. Coaching.. what can we say here, is this the best money can buy. Who would want to coach in the MVFC conference against UNI, xDSUs, and xDUs.. recruiting here is too competitive, given the xfer portal and NIL in play. If YSU doesn't step it up and get big money for coaches and better players, tallent this type of team is the norm. DP has the right tools as far as character and mindset, rubbing off the kids. We'll see how or if they will use that to build on.

4. Fan base.. has gone away with the 90s glory years. I love the loyal tailgate group I hang with. POaS and his group are 1st class also. After that, the YSU fan base is clueless armchair QBs, and the student section has no interest at all in what is going on on the field and what little shows up.

This will be my last post on YSU Football for a negative reaction. What else is there to say? I've said my piece on what I've witnessed. I'm hopeful that my 6-6 is still obtainable.
