LU should hang with Princeton. We'll see. However, listening to LU on Fox Sports Lehigh Valley is just brutal! I was not able to watch so I tuned in. Matt Kerr is just unbearable. He is never sure where the ball is and gives too much detail on how a play unfolded. Again, never mentioning where LU is on the field. After 25 years (just guessing) I would hope there is someone better. Just venting but I long for the days when games were on WGPA/AM. Bill Zimpher was a gem!

Columbia has improved over the years, but Inwould be stunned if ‘Pards don’t win by at least two TDs, Laf, 34-17
Cornell has not been good since…? A must win for Raiders…and they will, 24-17
Based on the injury reports, and wounded psyche, this could be a blow out, Dartmouth, 34-16
Hoyas at home will get another win as Bruins expense, 27-20.
”Eli’s coming….’ to Fitton Field. I expect a hard fought close game with the winning team making the fewest mistakes. Bulldogs will be seeking revenge and get it, 28-17.
Whatever is left of Marist will shuffle out to Lewisburg and provide some balm for the Bison’s surprising loss to VMI. Bison win 35-17.
Lehigh is not “back”, but the newly motivated Mountain Hawks have shown marked improvement from last year’s product. On paper, they don’t match up well with Princeton, but games aren’t played on paper. In week 1, some key mistakes resulted in a lopsided score. A week later they were causing turnovers and taking advantage of mistakes. Week three they fought a skilled LIU team.and found a way to win. Can they take another step forward..?
I think they will, but not sure it will be enough. Expecting Lehigh to keep close and look for the key turnover or stop. I hope I am wrong, but realistically, I am calling it for Princeton, 31-27.

HC, with two (very) close losses to mid-pack CAA and one comfortable win over lower-pack CAA, looks like strong contenders for PL championship. Even with their enormous drop off in talent (due to graduation).
Yale’s opening their season and working out the kinks versus a HC team playing their fourth game and starting to click. Bad timing for Yale.

Stopped over the Fordham board to get a "feel" for the temperature in the room regarding Conlin. Saw that a player's mom posted a pretty detailed assessment of the current issues facing the Ram football program.. Interestingly, she kept referring to Coaching Conlin as Coach Conlon which tells us something.
Still, I really don't believe going into such detail about "systematic issues with the coaching" on a public forum was the best decision. The toothpaste is out of the tube now....

Bill Z went on to do Penn State play by play as well as work at WIP. Bill was a Great broadcaster. Matt is a relic of the Lehigh Valley’s am radio top 40 heydays of the 70’s when he was a news guy at WAEB. That’s a long, long, long time ago.
It’s long since time for Matt to pass the gig on to somebody like the basketball play by play guy Tom Fallon.

meh. This is way overblown imo. Whoever she is, she actually made some clear and imo valid points without getting overly vitriolic. This thread is making more out of things by focusing so much on this one poster and the ensuing back and forth there imo.
That's not meant to excuse the fact that this is a disastrous start for us so far. Our AD just left and that may save Conlin his job for the near term, barring a nice turn around. The new AD will have his or her own timeline and it certainly looks like we're headed that way based on this season's start. Can't believe anyone in this thread would have picked us this weekend based on how these first 3 games have gone

Yale last had radio broadcasts in 2019. Even if Yale was on TV I would turn down the sound and listen to the Yale broadcast on my computer even though they were never perfectly in sync. I called WELI the long time Yale broadcast station and they said it was Yale's decision, not theirs.

Yeah campus station for Pards WJRH hasnt done Pard broadcasts for a while. Is it your school and others saving money on away games? How about just broadcasting home game OR are they NOT allowed to do that with ESPN criteris? I know I was late to get to the Bucknell game a few years ago because of washout detour on Rt 611 that honored Bill Russo and tried to get WJRH coverage of the game but no luck. BTW WJRH stands for James Renwick Hogg who donated Hogg Hall where the station has had its home throughout the years. It is on the quad to the left of Farinon Building.

Meanwhile, with Fuller's injury, could the needle move to the Elis' direction? HC graduated 35 seniors including all of their stars [who are now FBS/NFL] minus one, Fuller. So the injury is a big blow to the already-depleted squad. Could be the difference (and overcome the home crowd and game 4/game 1 HC advantages).

I really like listening to the radio broadcast for Lehigh honestly and when I don't get to a game I mute the ESPN+ feed and listen to the streaming radio. I know at the FCS level it's different (the TV feeds, while "carried" by ESPN+, are really created and produced by the schools themselves), but for road games especially I find it's good practice to mute ESPN commentary whenever possible and listen to people who really do care about the team and program.
It's just a thing of mine - I do the same with the Eagles and Saints (when I get the XM feed in my car). The radio guys just are more knowledgeable and localized and know the people and stories better.

Lafayette 38 Columbia 20: Pards should win comfortably...
Colgate 27 Cornell 17: The Raiders desperately need this one...
Dartmouth 34 Fordham 13: The Rams are a dumpster fire....
Georgetown 24 Brown 19: This feels like a coin-flip game, I'll take the Hoyas only because they're at home.
Bucknell 40 Marist 21: The Bison rebound from a disappointing effort against Merrimack...
Yale 28 Holy Cross 14: I have Yale #15 in the country so this says more about the Eli than the Crusaders...
Princeton 31 Lehigh 27: Princeton, while very talented, is not quite at Yale's or Harvard's level, at least in week 1 so I expect this one to go down to the wire. Ultimately, I think Princeton is still slightly ahead of the curve relative to the Mountain Hawks.
One of Colgate, Holy Cross or Lehigh has to win imo. Those three all losing would be a brutal look. 2-1 seems possible and while the odds of 3-0 aren't very high, I could see it IF Lehigh and Holy Cross have what it takes to be relevant nationally.

Colgate 30 Cornell 23 - Colgate really needs this one, and I think they'll get it, but it won't be easy.
Dartmouth 42 Fordham 10 - Too injured and demoralized to make this a competitive game.
Brown 35 Georgetown 15 - Think Sacred Heart might have exposed the Hoyas a bit.
Bucknell 31 Marist 21 - A Bucknell win, but closer than you think.
Yale 35 Holy Cross 17 - Without Fuller, feels like a tall order to beat the best team in the Ivy.
Princeton 27 Lehigh 20 - (https://www.college-sports-journal.com/princeton-at-lehigh-9-21-2024-football-is-so-back-baby/)Lehigh is much improved, but I think the Tigers have enough to beat a very young Mountain Hawk team.

I really like listening to the radio broadcast for Lehigh honestly and when I don't get to a game I mute the ESPN+ feed and listen to the streaming radio. I know at the FCS level it's different (the TV feeds, while "carried" by ESPN+, are really created and produced by the schools themselves), but for road games especially I find it's good practice to mute ESPN commentary whenever possible and listen to people who really do …

It's been a while since the PL has had better than a .500 record against the Ivy in a season. Let's change that.
2023: 6-7
2022: 2-9
2021: 3-10
2019: 4-7
2018: 2-8
2017: 2-10
2016: 8-6
The more things change, the more they are the same. Patriot League 2-4 against the Ivy League today.

It wasn't a bad call in itself. What stunk is that the umpire in the middle of the field who was right there didn't call it...but the line judge did. Like another poster said, the PF call was more egregious. Between the two, you could say we were jobbed, another tough loss.

--Three and out
--Four and out
--Failed on 4th down
(FWIW, the Hoyas have apparently lost four OL starters to injury per the ESPN+broadcast.)
They started 2-0, but that's a recipe for 2-9. Next week, Columbia.

Did a little digging...
When Lehigh has been good they have generally dominated the Ivy League...
From 1997 through 2016 Lehigh was 38-16....
From 1997-2005 they were 23-3 and from 2010-2016 they were 13-3.
Amazingly, this was Lehigh's first win over the IL since 2016! Just another reflection of how far the program had fallen....

The Yale-Holy Cross game pitted the Patriot League champions for the past five years versus the Ivy League Champion in four of the last six years. The game lived up to expectations. This is what an Ivy-Patriot Bowl could look like. Would be even more compelling now that Richmond is joining the Patriot League.

I don't think that there is any question that The Ivies, especially Dartmouth, Princeton and Yale picked up their recruiting efforts in the early to mid 2010's. More as a response to Harvard dominating the league than anything else.
But it certainly helped against the PL.

While the program certainly slipped during the tail end of the Coen era and then through the Gilmore debacle, I think this was also the time when the IL changed their 'grant in aid' formula by, in essence, giving full rides to kids whose families made $150K or less, annually. Especially with the 'Big 3', their endowments are so gargantuan they can easily do so. Regardless, the Lehigh program suffered during the last 7 years, and the re-build starting last year appears to be on the rise.
Are we 'back', yet? I am cautiously optimistic that we could be witnessing the rejuvenation of this proud tradition. I was at the Princeton game today and was thrilled with the outcome. Even my 'Brown colored glasses' didn't pick us to win, though I thought we could be competitive. After all, while this was Princeton's first game of the year, they did (reportedly) have 19 returning starters! I agree they did not play like a veteran group.
Our punting game needs more work; especially in the coverage. Does no good to have a 57 yard punt get returned 55 yards. The only criticism I have of the coaching was the strange set of plays called just before the half when we could have really put the Tigers away. I agree about the questions raised about using the shotgun in goal line/short yardage situations. The fact that 'everyone does it', doesn't sit with me. I have heard that the various plays called from that formation give more options, but, hey, it's 3rd and goal from the two. It's football. Time for the big uglies to get their noses down and plow forward, or play off it and make a quick toss.
However, I want to dwell on what I see as the potential for not only a significant improvement over last year's 2-9 season (we've already surpassed that), but a time for some realization that this time, if it stays healthy and doesn't start feeling 'too good' about itself, can be in the hunt for the PL championship. It's Any Given Saturday for a reason. Lehigh will have a three week hiatus after next week's Bucknell game. Bucky appears more formidable this year, too. But, assuming Lehigh can win at home over the Bison, the Coaches have three weeks to plan for the League run, in terms of playing guys for experience versus playing to make a championship run. Plus a great time for healing up. A lot of sophs and frosh are playing, and I give a lot of credit to the many upperclassmen who are now the #2s, who are still out there chopping wood to make the team better. Cahill has at the team together, interlocked arms swaying to the school's Centennial Song at the close of each game. "Mountain Music" is becoming another tradition at the end of the third quarter, and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" after a win.
It was also nice to see a good crowd back at Goodman. True it was Family Weekend, but having 8,000 in the stands and the "Best Band East of All Points West" putting on a great show, some of the old vibes were coming back today. I hope we can keep it rolling next week. Bucknell coming in off a big, but expected, win over the Redd Foxes under former Lehigh OC Dave Cecchini, will be energized. Should be a good game.

If the bowl type game the Ivies are only allowing for their champion to play in is created, will it be a neutral site game? Can it be played after all finals of the eight schools have finished, i.e., well after the FCS champion has been crowned?

Rhetorically speaking, why not an Ivy-CAA bowl instead? They have scholarships too, just like seven of eight PL schools in 2025.

The best team in the PL has maintained a gap in terms of ceiling though. There's no doubt the middle and bottom of the PL has really struggled in recent years.
I don't think the PL has much to apologize for today outside of Lafayette. Holy Cross and Yale (preseaso IL favorite) was a fantastic battle, Colgate beat up on their rival Cornell and Lehigh looked very good against Princeton.

- Despite Holy Cross sitting at 1-3 (soon to be 1-4 Syracuse next week), the Crusaders definitely look to be formidable. But at some point teams do have to win close games.
- Despite Lafayette's loss today they still have a win over Monmouth and their effort against a dangerous Buffalo team continues to be a reflection of their potential.

Some thoughts.
* Lehigh looked real good today vs. Princeton. The defensive front was amazing, holding Princeton to negative yards rushing and the O line of Lehigh also playing an amazing game. I did wonder how many of Princeton's incompletions and sailing passes were due to Lehigh pressure (Lehigh had 6 sacks!) or the Princeton QB's timings being off. QB Blaine Hipa was listed as QB2 for Princeton but played most of the game (which honestly didn't surprise me) but Lehigh wasn't affected or surprised by that fact.
Amazingly this was Lehigh's first Ivy win against any Ivy opponent since 2016 (the last one I believe was the 63-35 Yale game), but moreso it's the most dominant win over Princeton Lehigh has had in a long time. You have to go all the way back to the glorious 2001 season to see a bigger Lehigh win against a Princeton team (Pete Lembo beat them that year 34-10), and that 2001 win was a totally different Ivy League and a totally different Lehigh team. For the alums this game was a big plus vibe, adding to the fact it came on parent's weekend and the stadium was rocking. This was a meaningful win.
* Lafayette really suffered from four things: 1) the fact that it was Columbia's first game and there was no game film on their QB or what they were going to do; 2) the Columbia gameplan was to get up early and force Lafayette to play from behind, which they did, 3) it seemed like they were hammering Curtis even when they fell far behind they kept going to it vs. a surprisingly good defensive front, which only allowed 3.3 ypc, and 4) Lafayette's D gave up some big plays to the Columbia O, meaning Columbia found some things and had the personnel to exploit it. I did think Lafayette would win, and they didn't, but I'm not surprised Columbia may be quite good. The Ivies are like a box of chocolates.
As for Lafayette, this loss isn't a showstopper for their season, though it will hammer the PL's reputation nationally (and unfairly). Lafayette will drop to 24 on my ballot because I realize what Columbia is, but many will remove them completely because they don't understand the Ivies. Lafayette has plenty of time to regroup.
* Holy Cross has been jobbed now in two of their losses (see UNH). They seem better than their record, but their policy of playing brutal schedules might really bite them in the ass this season. It is noted they played a very tough Yale team down to the wire that needed two questionable calls to win. Still, impossible to count out.
* A great team win by Colgate was desperately needed vs. longtime Rival Cornell. They seem like a force to be reckoned with, especially on the ground, and October 5th vs. Holy Cross will be must-see viewing for the rest of the league.
* Fordham is apparently very banged up but haven't found anything in their rough start and were predictably beat bad by Dartmouth. It's hard to imagine them making a game of it vs. Lafayette in a few weeks.
* Georgetown lost a sloppy game on the road vs. Brown where they turned over the ball 3 times. If DFW's report is correct that their OL are banged up severely, that doesn't bode well for the rest of their season.
* Bucknell rode among other things a punt return TD to a comfortable 34-18 win over Marist where there weren't really threatened. At 2-2 they are still a bit of a mystery team with an offense that can score points and a defense that seems to give up a lot of points.

I don't see the PL results necessarily supporting that. The PL teams have played some fairly tough competition thus far, and have fared fairly well. We really do not know the strength of the various ILs, so the losses to Columbia and Yale may prove to be strong showings, as well a Holy Cross's and Lehigh's showings. Too many on this Board look down on the Ivies because of their snootiness in not being in the playoffs, but those who see them frequently, know they play a very good brand of football.
