ETSU came an insanely long way from last season. They had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

NDSU had no business winning that game. ETSU whipped NDSU for about 44 minutes of that game. ETSU is better than we all thought and NDSU is worse.... not sure yet which of those it was more of but it's early. I suspect ETSU is a team who will make some noise in the SOCON this year.

This was one of the craziest and most aggravating games I have ever seen. Awful play calling (both teams); McNeese hail Mary TD to end the half; penalties galore; McNeese kicking off from its own ten due to two unsportsmanlike penalties after a touchdown and extra point; quarterback McDowell disqualified after second unsportsmanlike penalty; and the Cowboys still found a way to pull it out. After all the losses last year (some in similar fashion), it's really nice to be 2-2 on the year.

Maybe the craziest of all. SFA is leading 24-14 late in the 3rd quarter, McNeese has the ball, but has done little most of the game. A score by SFA here, and it most likely would be all she wrote:

McNeese fumbles at the SFA 47 and SFA's Harmon returns it to the McNeese 7 (with little resistance) and here, while attempting to change the ball to his other hand and without being touched by a McNeese players FUMBLES the ball out of the back of the endzone without recovering the ball before it goes out. Touchback McNeese. SFA did not score again and McDowell led the Cowboys to two 4th quarter TD's.

NDSU had no business winning that game. ETSU whipped NDSU for about 44 minutes of that game. ETSU is better than we all thought and NDSU is worse.... not sure yet which of those it was more of but it's early. I suspect ETSU is a team who will make some noise in the SOCON this year.

You don't need me to tell you this but there's one of two possibilities:
1) NDSU is average... in which case they'll be lucky to go 7-5/8-4 and make the playoffs
2) NDSU is still elite but ETSU is a lot better than we all thought

If it's #1 then none of us should be feel good right now. But you and I can agree that it's obviously #2 (xsmiley_wix) and NDSU is still elite but ETSU is way better than we all thought.

Either way ETSU has every reason to crow... your guys should've won that game and the fact that they didn't shouldn't take away from the fact that they should've. I said it in the "How they fared" thread but if NDSU is a top 10 team then ETSU has to be a top 25 team and that's at the very least... we'll see how it goes but I suspect (AKA hope) that ETSU will contend for the SOCON title this year.

Absolutely lucky assed win. We recover a punt that our returner fumbles and they had at least 6 guys around the ball. Recover an onside kick, completely garbage officiating crew, no freaking idea how NDSU wins that game. I am not convinced the better team won. Gonna drop NDSU some in my poll but ETSU has some dudes on offense


Damn ending shades of Lafayette win at Monmouth last week. Two TDs in last minute BUT two failed 2 pointers too. Folks on youtube check out last 4 minutes of that game.

Thunderbirds were driving but their QB throws a horrible pick to end it. I have no clue what he was thinking.

Even so, I saw some awesome games today! Lehigh/LIU, NDSU/ETSU, Lamar/Weber State and Southern Utah/UC Davis were all excellent OOC battles....

recommend putting William at Wofford on your watch list..... good game

Reading through Bison comments, I can certainly empathize. I certainly thought ACU would take of business much better than we did today. We go in and play, I think, a much better UNC team than last year, on the road, in much higher elevation, and we don't play to expectation. We came out flat. We didn't adjust for large portions of the game offensively and UNC plays lights out against us. All of us were livid throughout the game. Still, good teams find a way in the end. That's what the Bison did. I think that's what ACU did in the end in Greeley.

I think ETSU is better then most people think and the Bison aren't exactly elite. We still have some issues defensively, hopefully the young players make massive strides. Will be interesting to see how both teams play the rest of the season. Hats off to ETSU on a hell of a game!

Looked like a Jacob Huesman (Chattanooga), John Russ (Mercer), Tyler Huff (Furman) type of SoCon QB out there.


BTW - FUBeAR knows Keith Brake, an ETSU Alum & ETSU’s Director of Broadcasting (who is normally very good), spent 2016-2022 in Fargo and did a lot of work with the bizuns in those salad days of NDSU Football, but, OMG, he sounded like an NDSU “homer” on that ESPN+ broadcast. He was audibly ebullient when bizuns recovered the onside kick and when Miller ran in that game-winning TD. Neutral is fine. Openly cheering for the visiting Team is discouraged. Tell him to keep his bizun horn in his pants if there happens to be an NDSU vs. ETSU rematch in the Playoffs. :)
