View Full Version : Parking at/near Delaware Stadium for night games - questions

It now appears likely I will try to attend the Penn/Delaware game in Newark at 6 PM on Saturday 9/21. (Assuming I go, this will be the back half of a college football doubleheader with the first game being Villanova/Maryland at 12 PM.) I've gone to a couple UD games at Delaware Stadium previously, but both were day games. The dearly departed (from AGS and possibly from this earth) Superman7515 gave me helpful information about parking for free at Delaware games a few years back, but I'm not so sure his (her?) recommendations would be appropriate now or for a night game.
Having provided the above information for context, my questions are:
1) Is there unofficial free/cheap parking near Delaware Stadium for night games that is less than $20 (which appears to be the official UD parking lots rate) that is safe for my car, safe for me to walk to/from the stadium in the dark (concerned about traffic issues and getting hit by a car), and does not infringe on the nearby community? In particular, is there free/cheap parking along/near DE 896/Christina Parkway and/or East Chestnut Hill Road south of the stadium? (I'll be coming from Elkton Road and I-95 MD Exit 109.)
2) If I do need to park in an official lot, is cash parking at the time of entry still available or is all parking now pre-paid?
I'd appreciate any feedback Blue Hens (or other) fans could provide.

It's been a while, but we used to park on the cul-de-sac of Brook Drive behind the Patterson-Schwartz office (which has a lot that charges for parking). Yes, it means crossing both 896 and 4, but there are always officers directing traffic (including foot traffic).
The direction you're coming it is a right from 4 onto 896, the first right (you'll see P-S), and the first right after the parking lot.

I told you a few days ago when I asked you what time you were born, like 20 hours older than you 1962

'62 was a good year (Edit: Not that I remember it but from what I know, good things happened that year).

I see where you talking about on the map. That location is a possibility, though I'd prefer not to cross both major roads near Delaware Stadium.

I was already thinking paying $10 and only having to cross major road in the dark than parking for free and needing to cross two major roads in the dark. :)
I'll probably make my final decision next Saturday though.
