23rd ranked men's basketball team in the nation.

GET SCHOLARSHIP FOOTBALL and take your rightful place in the Gateway.

And don't BS us about not having enough money. Oh yeah, Drake is sooooo poor.

How awesome would it be to have Drake add scholarships and Wichita State add football?

If only Bradley, Creighton, and Evansville would hop on board, haha.xlolx

Will never happen. As we have said before, for Drake to provide 60 schollys in football requires another 60 schollys for women sports. This would put Drake's athletic budget greater than Northern Iowa, Iowa State and just under Iowa, with about 1/10th the student body.

Get rid of Title IX and perhaps there is a chance..

That's an exaggeration. 60 men's scholarships and another 60 for women's sports would add approx. $5 million annually to the Drake budget of $11.4 million. While this would exceed UNI's budget ($13.3M), both are dwarfed by Iowa ($70.9M) and ISU ($36.9M).

Bradley also spends a ton of $$$ without having football, so does Creighton. Basketball is expensive for them as they play in (pay rent) for huge new municipal arenas instead of playing in on campus university facilities. I know that at one time both BU and CU had total athletic budgets about the same as ISU, and ISU plays DI football.

Size of student body has nothing to do with it. Tulsa and Notre Dame are doing just fine with small enrollments.

You didn't honestly think I would make a statement like that without the facts to support it do you...

I am sure you know the difference between budget - revenue and expenses. So let's look at the expense side - Specifically the line that says Athletically related student aid from the Equity in Athletics Web site for the US department of education...

http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/search.asp

Iowa State Men - $2,645,145 Women - $2,410,203 Total - $5,055,348
Iowa Men - $3,302,807 Women - $3,184,077 Total - $6,486,884
Northern Iowa Men - $1,961,890 Women - $1,390,053 Total - $3,351,943
Drake Current Men - $1,166,653 Women - $1,816,551 Total - $2,983,204
120 new awards Men -$3,003,373 Women -$3,653,271 Total - $6,656,644

Sorry, I was wrong - Drake with 120 new scholarships would have more athletically related student aid than Iowa and Iowa State and double that of Northern Iowa.

Get it now DFW?

If you look at the revenue side, the state schools can easlily afford this. Drake cannot.

Revenue
Drake $11,407,671 (most of which comes from Drake Relays)
Iowa $80,203,645 (45m from Football)
ISU $36,876,628
NI $13,526,042

True, but Notre Dame has a huge endowment. That makes a big difference because they don't have to sweat the revenue stream as much as most other similarly-sized private colleges.

Wait a minute. Northern Iowa is 57% women (Men 4,235, women 5,653, same source of data), yet 61% of its athletes are men and 58% of its athletic aid go to men. Is UNI not in compliance, or are there other ways to comply with Title IX that it uses but Drake cannot or will not use? Is it not necessary to increase scholarships for women by the same number as for men, especially since Drake already gives women a lot more aid?

Drake is about the same ratio as Northern Iowa. I am not sure what their situation was so I can't speak to that. It may also be a revenue issue. NI makes about $1.8m more from football than Drake

I can only speak to what can happen now going forward.

The only way I see Drake getting scholly football again is if the MVC decides to go FBS. Really the only $ way they could do it.

NO FOOTBALL. xcoffeex

When was the last time a non-football playing school won the National Championship. Oh that's right Marquette....IN 1977!! Face it, if you don't have football, you probably will not win the NC in hoops.
