Lehigh => this should be a very close game, I want to see that speedy frosh QB from PA!!!
Lafayette => Pards all the way, but wouldn't surprise me to see Marist in it for a half.
Georgetown => I'm going to keep rolling with the Hoyas although I see this as a 50/50 game
Stony Brook => How could I go any other way with this after last night? SBU will be looking to avenge a couple of recent beat-downs at the hands of the Rams.
Holy Cross => when I did my pre-season predictions, I actually had Bryant winning this. Going with the Crusaders, Curran being an NEC/NE-10 guy won't let us sleep on Bryant. Both teams look to avoid 0-3.
Bucknell => Did not expect Merrimack to lay that big of an egg in E. Hartford. 56 points in the 1st half -- yikes. Nice road win for the Bison to start the season, even though VMI is down from what they were a couple years ago.
Colgate => Let's get that SCALP! If St. Francis PA can beat a bad MAC team, Colgate has a shot.

I think Colgate has a much better chance to win against Akron than Villanova; 'Nova literally owns the PL, especially Colgate. Akron has made little to no progress under Moorhead which surprises me. As NYCrusader said, if the Red Flash can beat Kent State, than Colgate can take down Akron.

Is anyone heading out to Northeast Ohio for the game? I travel through Akron quite a bit so I'm reasonably familiar with the area. The stadium is the best in the MAC and there's great golf courses within a 30 minute drive. I went to the Temple/Kent State game back in 2010; the 2 PM kickoff allowed for an adventurous but not crazy day trip. I wish Lehigh would get a game with Kent State, Akron, Ohio or Buffalo.

I really don't know my picks yet this week, but I do think it is awful early to be shoveling dirt on Fordham, especially because it's supposedly Stony Brook that is doing the shoveling.

I will say this, however - if Fordham does lose this game, that is really bad news for the Rams' entire season, because it would be awfully easy to imagine them 0-5 headed to the Lafayette game.

Ironically I made vow to myself two years ago I would go to last two Patriot stadiums never been too - did Georgetown last year and have Fordham for this year. Would be great to see a Pard victory there. BTW I am 1-0 at Andy Kerr dating back to my attendance there early Nov 2014, two weeks before #150. Now I have to schedule Richmond too! Musings: dont think I ever have seen a Pard loss in Lewisburg, Worcester, Im 0-1 for the 1991 game. Need to even that HC next year!

If the ship does sink, will the leak be that bad that Fordham would be willing to eat two additional years on Conlin's deal?

Not sure. Our AD, Ed Kull, is rumored to be heading to St. John's. He's been awesome imo. If he goes I think the resulting chaos and leadership vacuum will make it less likely to let Conlin go, barring a 0 or 1 win type of season. If Kull stays, a sinking ship could take Conlin down with it though.

I have been struggling to make a pic on this Fordham Stony Brook game, that tells me I should probably pick Stony Brook which is against my instincts because that team was horrible last year. At least that buffalo transfer quarterback is not playing anymore. They should’ve just put that guy on Liberty island, looked like a statue back there.

One total win if you combine last year and the year before. A home loss would be a Fordham disaster.

A Holy Cross loss (going 0-3) to Bryant would be bad but not nearly so devastating for their very depleted and “rebuilding without transfers” squad.

I would put a loss to Bryant in the pretty devastating category. If we came in 2-0 and lost to Bryant, much different story. This team is in big need of a W of any kind, especially with the schedule ahead.

I have Colgate winning on Saturday. I noticed Akron, despite 2 blowout losses against Ohio St and Rutgers, was within one score until close to halftime in both of those games. If Akron can hang for 25 minutes against P4 comp, it may not be unreasonable to assume that they could string together a solid enough 60 minutes to take care of business against what looks to be a decent but unspectacular Patriot League team. Let's see.

While it wasn't a W, Colgate also probably has the best performance by a PL squad against a RANKED FBS team. In 2018 they lost 28-14 to Army but were within a TD deep into the 4th quarter. Caveat: Army may not have been ranked at the time of that late November game however they definitely finished the year ranked in at least one poll.

Lehigh also had a really good showing against a 9-3 UConn team (clobbered Wake Forest, Indiana, Army, Western Michigan) in 2003. What made the effort even more impressive is the fact Lehigh's starting QB, Chad Schwenk, broke his arm in the first half and was lost for the season. With him, they very well might beat Colgate later in the year. That UConn team had several future NFL players on it.

As things would play out, Lehigh was awarded Tony Moss's "Woffed" award that year for being the most deserving team left out of the 1-AA playoffs. Lehigh's other losses were by 7 to 10-0 Penn and 7 to 12-0 and eventually national runner-up Colgate. I don't believe the combined record of 31-3 of the opponents (one being FBS) that an 8 win team who was left out of the playoffs lost to will ever be replicated. Likewise, I don't think a 10 win PL team will ever be left out again either like 2012 Lehigh was.

As bad as the 2003 snub was, few snubs were as horrendous as the 10-1 Lehigh team of 2012 (that beat Liberty on the road) being prevented from the playoffs because they lost an incredibly tough game to Colgate. Holy Cross' snub last year comes very close IMO.

I still maintain the 2012 snub was directly related to the Spadola incident the year prior. The NCAA urged Lehigh to suspend Spadola for the Towson game and they declined. Sterrett and Lehigh were then defiant when the NCAA formally suspended him for the NDSU contest. The incident also made national news as it served as precedent for "when keeping it real on social media goes wrong". There is literally no justification for leaving out a team that was ranked Top 10/15 for nearly two years straight, beat the MVFC and CAA champs in the playoffs the previous 2 years, had lost one PL league game in 3 years (!) out of the playoffs. Yeah the schedule was so-so but they went 10-1 with the only (inevitable) loss coming to an 8 win, league champ Colgate team! And I promise everyone, Lehigh ain't losing to Wagner in the playoffs in 2012!

Colgate's 2012 win over Lehigh was Biddle's career capstone of sorts. They outplayed a more talented Lehigh team in the second half which paved the way for one final championship for the hall of fame coach. He got Coen, and more specifically Lehigh, one last time when the chips were on the line...

What did he do..i recall it obliquely

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Lehigh (https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/_/id/2329/lehigh-mountain-hawks)'s top receiver has been suspended for Saturday's FCS quarterfinal at North Dakota State for forwarding a Twitter message that included a racial slur against members of the Towson University football team. The Division I Football Championship committee announced Thursday that it had also reprimanded junior Ryan Spadola (https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/486380/ryan-spadola) of Howell, N.J.
The committee said in a statement that Spadola used "an inappropriate and repugnant racial reference" in retweeting the offending message, which had been sent to him by a friend before last week's 40-38 win over Towson.
"The football committee was very disappointed with the unsportsmanlike action taken by the student-athlete," said committee chairman Jim O'Day, athletic director at Montana. "This was a very unfortunate incident, but racially insensitive characterizations are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The offensive language of this nature by Mr. Spadola, whether intentional or not, was unsportsmanlike and discredited the championship overall."
Spadola issued a written apology in which he asked the offended parties for forgiveness.
"At the time I received and forwarded the tweet, I didn't stop to think about how this could be offensive," he wrote. "In hindsight, I recognize that it was clearly inappropriate. I would never do anything intentionally harm or berate others regardless of ethnicity. Everyone who knows me knows that to be true."

While Holy Cross was a very good team at times last year (losing to BC by 3 and West Point by 3) they did lose to Laffy and Harvard so the at-large chance was a no-go from the get-go...and the signature win for the 7-4 Crusaders was versus Yale...and their next best win was really nobody. Week 3 already...

Lafayette 42 Marist 17: Leopards exert their superiority...
Georgetown 34 Sacred Heart 19: The Hoyas offense continues to produce...
Stony Brook 27 Fordham 17: The Rams have talent but no direction. SBU seems to be headed in the right direction; relatively speaking...
Holy Cross 34 Bryant 13: The Crusaders are still a dangerous team. Bryant? Not so much...
Bucknell 38 Merrimack 23: The Bison continue to build positive momentum...
Akron 20 Colgate 16: I want to pick Colgate but I simply don't trust their ability to get over the hump...
Lehigh 24 LIU 21: This should be a 60 minute battle. Lehigh is the more talented team but LIU has the pieces to make such an advantage moot...

Yale was not a bad signature win at all. They were the Ivy champs and we beat them by 5 TDs on the road. You could say their resume wasn't terribly different than Richmond's was last year, as the Bulldogs won 7 of their last 8 after dropping 1st two games to HC and Cornell. Problem was that the early Cornell loss put them behind the 8-ball as far as having the opportunity to climb into and up in the polls. Unfortunately, not enough to put us over the hump at 7-4. Only once has an 8-3 Patriot League gotten an at-large so 7-4 would've been uncharted territory. And what stinks is we would've been a LOCK at 8-3. The Army game was our de facto NCAA play-in.

Yes, the more I look into the Shark's loss to Albany...they could have won that game, and a decent talent level at QB/RB/WR, and decent size up front. LIU not a 'known name', so hopefully, Coach has the players' heads screwed on right and not "looking ahead". Not sure if Lehigh is going to win today but overall they just look so much better. Their OL has a nastiness (not as much zone blocking) that has been missing since Coen, the defense is rarely caught out of position, not many penalties/unforced errors. There's definitely a clear difference with this team over the last 6-7 editions...

Made the trip to LIU today. The drive took FOUR and A HALF HOURS! Missed the first few minutes. The drive to Bethlehem was only two and a half. Anyway, the trip was worth it to see in person. I was concerned about LUI’s talent level and it was justified. Excellent QB, good size lines; however, the Sharks made a number of miscues that surprised me for a team in their third game. Pleasantly surprised that we too advantage of some of them.

Cahill said earlier that he was looking to establish a consistent running game and Inwould guess we had almost 200 yards. Play calling mixed it up with a couple new wrinkles. Defense had some sloppy tackling in the first half that seemed to improve later. WR Humphrey has the potential to be an offensive force with his size and hands. I’m looking for him to start breaking out down the road. Kicker Poole has a canon for a leg with several KOs well into end zone and two 50+ yard punts with no return due to hang time. I am seeing a team that is growing and gaining confidence. A lot of youth is being served as Cahill is looking ahead. Next week versus Princeton should be another measuring device. From what I have read, the Tigers have a good number of returning starters, especially on the DL and secondary. While the QB will be a new starter, they have good numbers and decent rBs returning. So, I will see us as the underdog next week, but with our growth, I think we can be competitive and look for making some surprising breaks.

Georgetown and Bucknell lost to NEC teams in all but name. Lehigh escape with a close win at a NEC picked 4th in the league preseason poll.

Not to mention a team picked last in the NEC is 2-0 vs FCS opponents (PL team and #2 NEC pick); and preseason favorite Duquesne knocked of a Top-25 FCS team on the road.

I think we have to temper the expectations of the Patriot and give a little more respect to the NEC. But again, we know that's never done here. 😎

The area around the “Post” campus appears pretty nice residential. Much of the campus seems fairly new. The stadium seats about 6,000+, with very newly built stands on both sides, but all concessions and restrooms are on the home side. The sightlines and closeness to the field are great! Field is artificial and lines for multiple sports. My only complaint (other than the horrendous Long Island traffic) is the very loud speakers on the visitors side..and likely by design as I am sure it was difficult for team and coaches hearing one another when in use. Very loud and obnoxious announcer drawing out the FIRST DOWN! and THIRD DOWN! Announcement . Surprised by the poor attendance. My vague estimate was about 1,500 people, almost split even, perhaps 60/40 more Sharks.

We are much improved from a year ago and Cahill is giving many frosh and sophs chances to show what they can do in game situation. I am hoping we give you guys a much better game this year!

Glad you enjoyed the trip out to LIU even if there was the inevitable NYC traffic snarl to test your mental stability! The last time I drove to Long Island was in 2019 when I attended the PGA Championship at Bethpage. While I encountered virtual gridlock on the Cross Bronx for a good 45-60 minutes, the trip to and from Jones Beach (then shuttled to Bethpage) really wasn't too bad. I considered going out yesterday but I had too many things to take care of. Plus, I'm going to make the 90 minute or so trek to Goodman this Saturday anyway.

I haven't ventured to a new Lehigh opponent since 2016 (UNH). They simply haven't been worthy of my allegiance on the road, or at home for that matter. Hopefully that is changing. I'm already considering Yale. I was there in 2016 when Mayes had his record day and in 2004 when Borda and company hung on. Just a great place to spend a fall Saturday. It's likely going to be either K-State at West Virginia or Lehigh at Yale in mid-October.

Sir I expect it...I never underestimate the Hawks in our game. OK you mention an excellent issue that I (and Im sure many others!) was thinking about the whole Monmouth game I went to. ENOUGH with the FIRST and THIRD downs shouting. WE KNOW! It doesnt rile up the fans...they do that themselves and is annoying as hell. Furthermore they had this woman shouting some unintelligible junk during timeouts. Can we talk to one another?! PLEASE! Enough already!

Besides injuries to starting QB, and stud RB and WR?

Forgot to mention their head coach.

The area around the “Post” campus appears pretty nice residential. Much of the campus seems fairly new. great reports on LIU, The few attendance numbers I remember actually seeing were around 900 so your eyeball seems very accurate

We didn't bring out 97 member marching band, but did have a 'stand band' of about 20-30 members, and they created a lot of noise for LU, and almost made it feel like there were more of us than them!

We have a tailgate with a menu tailored for each opponent. For Princeton, instead of roast Tiger, I hear we are having a clambake, with various side dishes. We do take donations which go to the Football Partnership fund, but you are welcome to drop by and savor. I also, may have a ticket or two available (freebie) as my granddaughters have other activities. Good seats on the 50, upper row of lower level.
