Heard something interesting on Chicago sports radio yesterday.
When Jamar Smith suits back up next year, he will be the first convicted felon to ever play in any athletic event in the entire history of the Big 10 conference. What a proud moment that will be for the Illini.
For those that don't know, he was convicted last year of felony DUI for an accident in which he and other team members left another teammate in a wrecked car because they thought he was dead. Someone from the apartment complex called 911, the guy turned out to be just injured. All sorts of rumors of coaches being at the apartment and involved in the attempted cover up.
Mr. Smith was "punished" by taking a redshirt this year, so he still will play 4 years and gets a 5th year of free education, and be the first convicted felon athlete in Big 10 history.
