After the first week I am a perfect 13-0 and hoping to continue this perfection. One conference game this week and everyone else gets another non-conference game, for a total of 11 games. The last time I was perfect after the first week was the very first year I started this (2004). I have never gone the first two weeks perfect, but there is always a first time. Here are my humble predictions for this week.

UI at Wyoming---After last week's performance against one of the top dogs in all of FBS, the Vandals are the chic pick to get this scalp over a G5 team. Their opponent is breaking in a new coach and had a lackluster performance last week, so that adds to the lure of taking the Vandals in this one. But it is still FCS vs FBS...Wyoming 24, UI 21.

Western Oregon at ISU---Could the Bengals be building something for this year? They really didn't look bad stepping up a level and playing on the road last week. They now bring in a lower division team for their home opener and hope to continue the good vibes...ISU 45, Western Oregon 14.

UM at North Dakota---The Grizzlies hit the road this weekend after playing a rather closer than expected home opener last week. This week, they stay in the Missouri Valley, playing a former conference foe. They may still be trying to get the offense tuned up, so the defense needs to win some games...UM 17, North Dakota 14.

CP at Stanford---Could things get any worse for the Mustangs after last week's loss to an FCS non-scholly team? How about this week's trip up north to play a P5 school. Fortunately, their opponent does not have as good a team as they once did, which could be good. But unfortunately, neither do the Mustangs...Stanford 31, CP 7.

UNC at Colorado State---Fresh off a good showing against one of the FCS heavyweights, the Bears step up a level to play their big brothers just down the road. The Bears remained in contention last week and kept it close. There may be a moral victory if they can keep it close in this game...Colorado State 31, UNC 7.

Drake at EWU---After last week's impressive win against the CAA, the Eagles look to do the same this week against a non-scholly Pioneer squad. These games will truly get them ready for when the conference schedule starts. The Eagles should continue to look good this week, just like last week...EWU 38, Drake 10.

Maine at MSU---The Bobcats really took their start of the season like gangbusters, getting two good wins on the road, and stating their case for not only the conference title, but possible national champions. Their FBS win was great, their road FCS win was good, can they get the home win?...MSU 40, Maine 14.

PSU at WSU---The conference opener for the conference, as well as these two. Both took losses to FBS opponents in the state of Washington last week. Both the Vikings and the Wildcats will want to get this conference win to keep their dream alive. Good early season game with a lot on it...WSU 24, PSU 17.

NAU at Arizona---So the Lumberjacks brought in an inferior opponent last week and beat them up handily, like they were supposed to. Their reward is to head down south to their big brothers in the FBS, where they are likely to get beaten up handily, returning the favor...Arizona 45, NAU 14

SAC at Fresno State---By all rights, the Hornets should have had the game won last week, but caved in the fourth quarter, similar to what their opponent this week did in their game. The Hornets may have enough to get the win here and make up for last week, or they may just fall short...Fresno State 31, SAC 24.

Texas A&M-Commerce at UCD---The Aggies looked good for most of the game last week, but they just could get on top of their FBS brothers. They return to the FCS this week for their home opener, bringing in a team from the Southland. They need these types of game to get some wins...UCD 28, Texas A&M-Commerce 14.

UI 20 @ 21 Wyoming -- Idaho gave the number 5 FBS team all it could handle. Now to an unranked FBS team. Will Idaho step it up again. They should have a chance, but are probably still an underdog.

Western Oregon 6 @ 38 ISU -- The Bengals gave Oregon State a decent game. Now on to a middling lower division team. ISU should win this easily.

UM 24 @ 27 North Dakota Rare for UM to play a quality opponent on the road during the OOC games. UND is coming off a FBS loss and the Griz a win over a good FCS team. This could be a 50-50 game. This game could come down to 1 or 2 plays or which team makes the fewest mistakes. I will give the home team the 3 point advantage. Plus the Griz are missing a few of their star players. This is my vote for the FCS game of the week.

CP 3 @ 55 Stanford -- CP does not look like they improved much over the off season. Stanford is a P5 FBS team.

Northern Colorado 10 @ 44 Colorado State -- The Bears do look improved over last year. But playing up a level against a team that got smoked last weekend does not bode well the UNC.

Drake 13 @ 42 EWU -- Non-scholly Drake making the trip to Cheney. EWU should roll in this one.

Maine 17 @ 32 MSU -- Maine is a step in competition for the Bobcats compared to last weekend. But this is in Bobcat stadium and the Gold rush game.

PSU 17 @ 24 Weber State -- Is this a conference game that is considered an OOC game? This game should tell us much about each team. I will give the advantage to the home team.

NAU 6 @ 66 Arizona -- NAU's fisrt meaningful game. Arizona will be a bit too much for the Lumberjacks. For fun I did the NAU score from last week but flipped NAU to the loss side.

Sacramento State 24 @ 42 Fresno State -- Sac State does have a shot at the scalp, but I think they fall short again with the same score as last weekend.

Texas A&M-Commerce 10 @ 51 UC Davis The Aggies thumped Tex AM last year 48-10 in Texas. This year game is in CA. I see similar result this year plus the 3 point home field advantage.

Didn't Idaho just lose their starting QB? Be interesting to see if they can still put up any points against UW.

It is a conference game. My understanding is that the Southland reshuffled their schedule and McNeese could not play Weber on the scheduled date. So they moved their game to Sept. 28 which is when the first week of conference play usually is. PSU agreed to moving the date to Sept. 7 (and picked up a road date with Chattanooga in the process).

Idaho 10 @ Wyo 27 - Starting QB Layne underwent collarbone surgery after being injured near the end of the game last week. A red-shirt freshman will be at the helm. The gap will be wider than it was against the Ducks.
WOU 10 @ ISU-o 34 - A tune up game before heading out to battle North Dakota next week.
UM 20 @ UND 24 - There may still be enough weakness in the QB play, and key player absences, for the Griz to get tripped up by a quality team on the road.
Cal Poly 0 @ Stanford 42 - No chance for a team that lost to San Diego
No Co 6 @ Colo St. 41 - Big brother crushes lil brother making the short road trip
Drake 13 @ EWU 38 - Eags still able to score in bunches, the D is still a bit suspect, but they should be able to slow Drake
Maine 17 @ MSU 45 - The Bobcats are home for Gold Rush, the first game in front of the home fans. They play very well in front of a raucous Bobcat Stadium.
PSU 24 @ Weebs 30 - A battle between my #7 and #8 gives me my second coin flip game. I have BBQ as the higher ranked team and they're at home, so they get the nod.
NAU 17 @ 'Zona 31 - The 'Jacks always seem to play their in-state brothers fairly tough somehow. Not enough for a top-20 scalp though.
Sac St 17 @ Fresno State 38 - The Hornets won't be able to sneak up on this MWC team after playing SJSU tough in the previous week.
TAMU-Commerce 10 @ UC Davis 41 - Davis beats them by the same amount as the Aztecs did in the previous week

It appears they did. Surgery for a collarbone injury. I need to amend my prediction.

Thanks. It's been quite a journey. That first year I only had 11 misses for the whole year. Now, if I have 11 misses by week 6, I think I am doing great.xlolx

Parity is a bitch! xlolx I second Catbooster's motion: congrats on 20 years! I mostly lurk these days, but check in nearly every week to read your predictions and power rankings. :)

I want to be mad at you guys picking UND, but it really feels like we could struggle mightily in this one. Last year was the first year in what feels like forever that we played well on the road (in the 2nd half of the season), so I'm a bit snakebit about tough road games. We're probably still down 3 All Americans, so I'm starting to sense a tough loss.

I'm unfortunately feeling all home teams.

UM @ UND :(
Cal Poly @ Stanford
No Co @ Colo State

PSU @ Weebs

Maaaaaaaaan, I want to, but I just genuinely think the Alerus Center is an extremely tough place to play, and we are not the best road team. Hell, NDSU got blown out there last year when they were in a similar still-figuring-things-out mode early in the season.

If we win, especially if we win comfortably, I will be back all aboard the "Back-to-Frisco Express", but I'm still very cautious about our chances this season.

Who ARE you??? A measured, reasonable college FB fan?!? There's no place for you here! xlolx

I don't disagree with any of what you said, but in a 50-50 game, I'm going with the homer pick every time. I'd rather pick em and be wrong than pick against em and be right. I don't even bet against the Cats to not cover the spread. If I think it's too much, I pick O/U.

Well sure, I never bet against the Griz. I won't feel much of anything based on this pick whether we win or lose. I actually picked us in the eGriz pick'em for this week. It's been a few days, and I'm feeling more pessimistic haha.

I see PSU’s backup QB threw 9 passes… did Chacherre get hurt or did they just sit him when the game was out of hand?

He got hurt right before halftime. Looked like a cramp of some sort. Went to the locker room early. Came out, sat out the first series of the second half, then came back in the game. Cramped up again running for a first down and the backup played the rest of that series, then came back in on the next series. Barnum didn't mention anything about it after the game.

Portland St. 22-30 Weber — Is this the earliest Big Sky Conference game ever (there haven't been any in early September going back to at least 2008)? xconfusedx

Drake 17-41 EWU — The Bulldogs got a surprise conference title last season… and they celebrated by tying the I-AA/FCS record for largest playoff defeatxlolx

Cal Poly 10-48 Stanford — Troy Taylor gets his easiest contest since joining the Cardinal last year

Commerce 9-41 Davis — The Aggies shouldn't have any trouble here

Sac State 17-49 Fresno — Fresno should be better than SJSU

Idaho 16-27 Wyoming — The injury to Jack Layne makes this a bit tougher

Woe-regon 10-41 Idaho St. — The Wolves haven't been too good this decade

NAU 20-58 Arizona — The Wildcats are just a smidge better than NAU's last opponent

Montana 24-27 NoDak — The Alerus is a tough place to play, especially for a team with key players in injury purgatory

Maine 14-42 Montana St. — The Bobcats' first of two home games against a UM this year (three if you count MU's)

NololColol 7-41 Colorado St. — The Bear losing streak hits 14…

i believe that a lot of answers were shown in Montana's last weekend game with a very good MO State team. Fife should be the starting QB with Ah Yat in backup learning for his time. The defense struggled in the first half but closed the game out well, Field goal kicker looker good and once the receivers stopped dropping the ball they were ok. I didn't see much at UND game to alarm me. I expect a close game but for the GRIZ to find a way to win. The games I am worried about this season at WCU in Missoula and EWU at Cheney.

Where does Northern Arizona stack up in the Big Sky? Their defense must be very good to hold Arizona's plethora of playmakers in check. I don't see K-State's defense duplicating the Lumberjacks performance when Arizona visits Manhattan next Friday night....
