UIW has a 1-score lead at half and defeats in meh fashion an FCS Team that has won precisely 1 game in their 3 most recent seasons and UIW moves UP 4 SPOTS.

Meanwhile, Furman loses (yes, badly - BUT, avg margin of victory SEC vs. FCS in 6 games last week was 64 points) to a Top 5 FBS SEC Team with a Top 3 Heisman candidate at QB and DROPS 7 SPOTS.

No other Team moved down more than 3 spots.

Understand it’s the “Coaches” Poll, but really can’t make sense of these 2 drastic moves.

We SoCon fans have come to expect inordinate ‘punishment’ for losses leading to broken elevator cable type drops after losses AND quick-sand-like anchoring preventing moving up after wins, so the HUGE jump by UIW is the more “curiouser” of these 2 moves.

Reckon did the upcoming UIW @ Bunnies matchup this week perhaps inspire these “Coaches” to better position UIW … for whatever reason(s) they might want to do that?

Maybe the lazy clueless Coaches Poll thought IW just beat North Carolina 28-7 ??

Too high: Albany, Lafayette
Too low: W&M, Youngstown

Nice to see Delaware State getting a little love, even though they are probably nowhere near a real Top 25 team. Coached by Holy Cross alum Lee Hull!

How is W&M too low? Not saying they aren't. But why? Based on? One game, a win against a weak team? It's hard as well with so many teams having had good FBS teams this past week. Albany too high? Maybe considering their game result/opponent. It really is hard in the first three weeks with games against the extremes.

UIW much too high, but this early I'm not going to pick too many nits but.... looking at the ORV, you can really tell they aren't putting much effort in after the top 10 or so. Delaware State getting 14 for beating SHU by 2? Sure it was on the road, but SHU was 2-9 from a weak conference last year. SFA and NAU, coming off lackluster years (at best), beating up on teams that no FCS should play earns them multiple votes.... clearly just looked at the scoreboard. Samford gets a vote for losing to a D2-transitional?

And then there's Indiana State, coming off a year where their only win was against a winless WIU team. They got up to 3 out of 26 voters to put them in their poll, and they have yet to score a point this year. I can only assume this was done in error, but even that shows they aren't trying. And if it was purposeful.... somebody got some 'splainin' to do.

Good observation on UIW, no way should they have moved up 3 positions. It's probably is due to the fact so many top FCS teams lost to P5 FBS opponents. I understand the Furman argument you've made, no question the points differential between P5 and FCS teams seems wider then ever. But when you look at the percentage of top FCS talent that moved to FBS teams due to the permissive rule changes on transfer the huge amount of NIL $$ available at the level, it's not really surprising. I suspect that if Furman gets back to winning FCS games they will move back up the ranking quickly.
