Very sad.
The closest ball park to me is 5 miles away, Camden Yards. And I can't name one.

I grew up 17 miles from Reading Pa--now home to the Reading PHillies...Many of the Phils from their great teams of 1976-83 passed through Municipal Stadium in the "Pretzel Capital of the World". Of course, Mike Schmidt, Greg Luzinkski, Larry Bowa, etal from that crew. Ryan Howard of not too long ago vintage...I think, though not sure, that Ryne Sandberg played for Reading when he was in the Phils system...One of the worst trades in Phillies history when they dealt him.

Ten former Asheville Tourists played for the Colorado Rockies at times in the 2007 season. Willie Stargell and Eddie Murray played here as well. Cal Ripken Jr. was a batboy in the 1970's. Sparky Anderson was manager in 1968.
We have an old ballpark, and at various times Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson played here. Part of Bull Durham was filmed at McCormack Field.

They were AA playing in the Texas League.
These are the player's that actually started and played here.
Just about every NY MET played in Jackson at one point or another.
It was funny because the MET's would not send player's down to their AAA squad because the AA squad in Jackson was that much better.
None of those guy's made a stop in-between Jackson and MLB.
When they got the call, they went to the BIG SHOW back then.
D. Strawberry was basically tha shat.
Nicest guy you could meet.
At that time, I was a student worker in the Comp. Science office's and he was dating a lady that worked in the department office.
He would come around to visit her and outside of people knowing he was Daryl Strawberry, you could not tell he was a "star".
Sport's reporter's used to go to Smith Will's to see just how many HR's they would hit in a night as a team with Daryl leading the way.

McCormick is a real gem...
The Stadium was formally opened in 1924 with an exhibition game between the Asheville Skylanders and the Detroit Tigers (who had three future HOFers on the roster) Ty Cobb homered in the game, but the Skylanders prevailed, 18-14.
McCormick hosted an exhibition between the Yankees and Dodgers in 1925. Babe Ruth fell ill before the game, and it was widely rumored that he had died. The episode is known as "The Bellyache Heard Round the World."
Best of all (to me), my little brother has hit a handfull of homeruns there.
My hometown team, the Hickory Crawdads, have only been around since the mid 1990's. Magglio Ordonez is probably the best of the former Crawdads.

xlolx My girlfriend is from Jersey, her dad is a Mets fan, and I would be surprised if neither of those two never put on a Yankees jersey. They are amazing players, who could anchor almost all teams in the league.

Satchel Paige, Double Duty Radcliffe and Quincy Trouppe once played for the Bismarck Barons or Churchills. Probably played in every little town in North Dakota, and maybe some in SD, MN and MT. He played in my hometown of 500 people, as did John Donaldson, and the House of David, the famous long haired, bearded baseball team.

I haven't kept up withthe Mobile BayBears that much, but they did have Jake Peavy and Oliver Perez a few years ago. I got to go one night when Peavy pitched for Mobile against Mark Prior who was in with the Cubs affiliate. Pretty cool!
