I'm resuming my pick'em series for the CAA this season.

Here's the slate:

Goofies - Rhody had to survive to avoid being upset at home; the Goofies' K muffed his game-ending FG attempt and the Tarholes survived Minneapolis.

Lafayette at Monmouth - Hawks playing for their season already in week 2. I expect this to be a very good Football game.
UNH at Holy Cross - no gage yet on UNH- Something seemed missing from HC (more than just sluka and chesney)
Campbell at WCU- wow this is a tough game, WCU played NC state tough but Campbell may not be that bad.
Stonehill at Stony Brook - did not even look to see about stonehill- SB losing streak will end!
Wofford at Richmond
Franklin Pierce at Bryant
Morgan State at Towson- Towson might be pretty good.
UAlbany at WVU - Virginia Union at Hampton - Those D-2 schools are tough
Villanova at Colgate - would not be surprised to see this close for a while or even finish within 2 scores.
Elon at NC Central- no clue, going with the pedigree

Piggybacking on this thread

CAA Week 2

League members went 0-7 vs FBS last week. There really wasnÂ’t a tight finish among many though Towson (20-38 vs UC) and Campbell (24-41) had decent showings. Elon battled well in 1H @ Duke but couldnÂ’t get the offense moving, losing 3-26.

CAA has three more shots this weekend;

URI (1-0) @ Minnesota (0-1)
1st meeting. URI is 1-14 vs FBS, this their first vs Big 10 opponent. URI came very close to a scalp last year, losing late 35-42 @ Georgia State. Since 2017 though, the Rams have lit up the scoreboard in their FBS games - in 7 games they have averaged an amazing 30 points per game though only won one of those, 35-22 @ UMass in 2021. I donÂ’t feel like the Rams have much of a shot here though. The Gophers will be looking to rebound from a tough 19-20 loss vs UNC, losing on a FG as clock expired.

UAlbany (1-0) @ West Virginia (0-1)
Ditto here on a game where the FBS opponent looking for a big rebound, the Mountaineers losing in disappointing fashion to Penn State opening weekend. The Danes struggled against LIU in their opener. UAlbany is 1-7 vs FBS, their lone win over Buffalo 22-16 in 2016. Danes came so close last year @ Marshall, losing 21-17. Take the money and run in this one.

W&M (1-0) @ Coastal Carolina (0-1)
Since 1985, the Tribe is 6-32 in FBS games, last winning in 2022 @ Charlotte, 41-24. Against G5 opponents though, the Tribe is 4-8. This is the Tribes first game vs a team actively in the Sunbelt. Coastal looks strong, rolling past Jax State in their opener on the road. W&M looked strong vs VMI - they will score but donÂ’t believe the defense is strong enough to pull this one out.

In CAA/FCS games, there are three match-ups with the Patriot League and two games vs D2 opponents within the weeks slate.

Lafayette (0-1) @ Monmouth (0-1)
Hawks take on the PL defending champ and projected 2024 champ. The Leopards fell @ Buffalo on opening weekend and while Monmouth put up 27 points in a losing effort @ Eastern Washington. Monmouth is 3-2 vs Lafayette overall and lost last years game, 20-28. This looks like a tight game to me. A Hawk win would be notable though while a second straight loss for the Leopards would be a real blow I think to Lafayette and the PL. itÂ’s the preseason #1 pick from the PL vs preseason #10 in the CAA.

UNH (0-1) @ Holy Cross (0-1)
Another tough game to pick. UNH suffered a bad loss at UCF, losing by 56 points but unknown how dominating UCF really is in FBS circles this year. Holy Cross lost a tough game @ URI. So both teams should come into this one very hungry. The series is tied 9-9 though HC has won the last two including a 2nd round playoff win in 2022.

Villanova (1-0) @ Colgate (0-1)
Villanova has owned PL opponents though this one feels like a potential land mine. VU is 6-1 overall vs Colgate, having won 6 straight, the last 42-19 last year. Colgate lost a close opener @ Maine while the Cats did what they needed to do vs Youngstown, a competitive MV team. Villanova should win here on talent but if theyÂ’re not mentally ready for a competitive game, I could see a Red Raider win.

Wofford (1-0) @ Richmond (0-1)
The Terriers pulled off the upset at Gardner Webb week one but will face a much tougher game here. Richmond is 1-0 vs Wofford, winning 21-0 in the ncaa playoffs several years ago. The Spiders last So Con opponent was VMI in 2015, winning 42-10. Richmond started poorly at UVA, down 7-27 at HT but held steady in the 2H. UR wins here by 14+ I think.

Morgan State (1-0) @ Towson (0-1)
Now hereÂ’s an interesting match-up among Baltimore neighbors. Towson leads series 23-6 having won the last 6 games. Tigers are 14-2 against the Bears at home. Morgan won at fellow CAA member Hampton week one, also won at Richmond last year. Towson though just feels like a program on the rise, played a very solid game at Cincinnati - I think they could roll here.

Stonehill @ Stony Brook (0-1)
SBU comes in on an 11 game losing streak. Despite that, this is a game that you would hope and expect they should win. SBU is 2-0-1 vs Stonehill but last game was in 1990. The Seawolves had a rough opener @ Marshall, losing 45-3.

Campbell (0-1) @ Western Carolina (0-1)
1st meeting. Campbell is 3-1 overall vs So Con opponents. Camels were 42 point dogs this weekend at Liberty though competed much better than that, losing a competitive game, 24-41. Camels led 10-7 late into Q2. The catamounts had a more impressive showing in their FBS opener, putting a scare into NC State, a game they led 21-17 in the 2H before folding.

Elon @ NC Central
Phoenix competed well at Duke for a half and then lost steam, losing 26-3. This will be their second consecutive game down the road in Durham and not sure itÂ’s much easier. Elon leads this series 9-4 though NCC won at Elon last year, 34-23, defending MEAC champs.

Maine (1-0) @ Montana State (1-0)
Whoo boy, having been to Bozeman myself and seeing an absolute beat down in 2022, this one just looks scary. Maine had a nice opening win vs Colgate but an entirely different opponent here. The Bobcats have the only FCS scalp so far, a hard fought comeback at New Mexico. I hope the Black Bears compete a bit in this one but thatÂ’s a big ask.

To finish, there are three D2 games on the schedule:

Franklin Pierce @ Bryant (0-1)
1st Meeting. FP plays in the NEC 10, a D2 conference, a home Bryant played before moving FCS. LetÂ’s hope itÂ’s not close.

Virginia Union @ Hampton (0-1)
VUU competes in the CIAA and is the defending champion. This is no lay-up for Hampton. They may in fact be an underdog. The series is tied, 1-1, both games in the last 5 years.

Winston Salem State @ NC A&T (0-1)
The Aggies second consecutive opponent from neighboring Winston Salem. WS also competes in the D2, CIAA and is a mid level team. Aggies should take care of business here.

Truly a shame. We have not stopped anyone in 3 years now. a 90% new offense literally personnel wise and we still get it done on that side of the ball yet defensively seem to not have the players to compete. It is coaching too but clearly we dont have good enough defensive players. and the 1 time they do step up and make a play (failed 2 pt conversion) the fkin onsides kick-- we find new ways to lose close games every time. The question I have is- Is monmouths offense good, like really good or is Lafayettes defense not as good as thought? I do not think we have an elite offense, but it was not like they stopped us either really. Either way, more broken dreams but the reality is you cant be good anyway without at least an adequate D uless you are that one Incarnate word team or theFordham team from 2 years ago. The MU/Hens game could be really dicey.

agreed- a fun game- and the irony is- In hindsight it would have been better if they HAD made the 2 pt attempt. We get the ball with 2 timeouts, on our own 25-30 and 20 MORE seconds and would only need a FG. But it did not happen- Correct , not meant to be.. Our offensive staff and recruiters and players on O should be commended for losing everyone and being able to reload- but the D has cost us a playoff birth in 2022, and possibly 2 games this year. Cannot change the past only move forward but it was a very very exciting game and Lafayette found a way- agree 10000% on the cute 2 pt play-- way too telegraphed and slow even against our which they gashed so bizarre and could have cost them dearly.. Sickening. We travel to Maine next and even if we won yesterday would be tough- We are gona see what type of leaders we have b/c 0-3 with FBS on deck would truly be bad. I they can muster a win I would be impressed b/c 2 game films of this D now it is not hard to know what to do and at some point our O will stall a bit..In theory our O will get better bc only 2 games together but you know what I mean- sometimes it aint you day.. Met Pards rule the man wore a fur leopard coat in100% humidity. Kudos to him. Pards fans were good folks. Ex coach Travanti was t the game.

But it all resolved itself the next week as the CAA's "elite" Hen squad showed while they can beat up on The Monmouth's and Hamptons of the world, when it is time to play da big boys, well-- you are just the tallest midget in midget land- 49-19 to The Grizz! year before? Same thing! SDSU may be the best in the land but was a disaster! Anyone can go lose 42-6 (although yes, we would lose 72-6) 2021? sub .500!!! So when I spit facts- and you know it, you resort to the BS-- haha, no problem!!! Nothing I said is false- The Hens are the tallest midgets- The best (maybe) in a watered down and average CAA and not even the best in most recent years. Great job beating Sacred Heart, St Francis in the playoffs before getting curb stomped by the true elite of the FCS.
