Maybe that includes the estimated number of homes tuned in on ESPN2 for the game.

Tarleton was claiming multiple games last season of 20K plus.
I even went to one of those games, a night game against SFA, and I just wasn't seeing it. It was a good crowd, but not over 20K good.
Maybe they count the tailgaters as well. :)

Tarleton had similarly unbelievable numbers back in D2. Someone back then gave the why, and I believe they counted all sold tickets. Meaning if you purchased and didn’t show you still counted as in attendance. If not that it was some other form of creative accounting.

This is from 2019, but FUBeAR believes it is still the ‘law of the land’ in the NCAA.
“The NCAA allows for announced attendance figures to be generated in two ways: either through actual attendance (tickets scanned) or through tickets distributed (tickets sold and complimentary tickets).”
So…when the numbers of people you see in the stands do not align with the numbers you see reported, it doesn’t, necessarily, indicate that your eyes OR that the hosting school are lying to you.

Albany's numbers are a shame...would have been a sellout but for the crappy weather. Crowd was loud for the 6,100 that attended.

Very nice opener and also pretty typical I think. Apparently UD fans aren’t as triggered by some of the new CAA members as many of the hardline posters (not on here necessarily). You wonder if the interest is really going to be noticably different when Kennesaw, Sammy or UMass come rolling in.
It’s still a really good FCS support number, not at Montana levels, but excellent. It’s a lot closer to FCS numbers than big boy FBS numbers.

Really. You change the definition of "attendance"* and it all of a sudden isn't lying? I can get into changing lots of definitions. Cool. I'm pretty sure we were "undefeated" last year according to my definition.
*Attendance - the action or state of going regularly to or being "present" at a place or event.
This is just one more way on how you destroy things. Kind of like you don't actually have to be a real student to be a student athlete. You can just say you are.
I know you are simply defending the method by which Mercer counts their "attendance," but it is a foul no matter how much you spin it. The last game I went to at Mercer pretty much was reported as a sell out even though the stands were only 30-50% full at its greatest. That's no way to run a railroad. It's called deluding one's self. But I will note that it was a very chilly and windy evening for middle GA.

Welp, FUBeAR has no moral difficulties telling people that he “attended” Furman, but most of his Professors, when they were alive, would have been unable to confirm that claim. They didn’t see him attending.

I agree.
If they don't only count "butts in seats", they should have something else to call it besides "attendance".
When someone uses a word, we shouldn't have to look up "their" definition of that word, it should be used as the prescribed English language definition indicates, not what someone wants it to mean...

I don’t see the big deal with anyone counting tickets sold in the attendance numbers. The only issue I have seen are those that just “estimate” or those who simply give away tickets to large groups whether they come or not and count that as attendance. Richmond was famous for that for years during their string of “consecutive sellouts” and a half empty stadium.

Y’all should prolly sue the NCAA over this important issue and get them to change their rules to meet your expectations / definitions.
It’s almost a guaranteed win. They’re 0-11 in recent contests.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe they could call it tickets sold. That might be accurate. LOL.

The NFL does this for crying out loud. 76,867 for EVERY Giants and jets game back in the 80's and 90's (yes I know Jets were at Shea for a bit) even though some games were clearly less. Maybe The NFL changed, but they def used to count tickets sold and every game for The Giants was a "sellout" literally but also counted in "attendance" as well...
