What's up with this program/institution? The Bishop Sycamore of higher ed?

Last year Portland State beat them 91-0 and tonight Stephen F. Austin is up 70-0 with 3:45 left in the 3Q.

Division 1 programs should not be scheduling this school.....

We had em a couple yrs ago. I think its mayday! We need a game and cant find anybody with an open date. They dont even have a field. Play at a neighboring high school

The 'Jacks took mercy on NAU.2 so the final ended up 70-0. Just an awful, unnecessary game imo....

North American (much like Lincoln of California) is a unaccredited** college that tacked on athletics for exposure. Its enrollment is 429, of which 154 are listed as playing football. It is sanctioned by the NAIA and plays three men's and thee women's sports overall.

The school's "campus" is three floors in an office building in a Houston suburb. There are no athletic fields or facilities, but thanks to games like this it listed a profit of $90,317 on its 2022-23 football budget, according to public records.

** North American was denied accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has since sought accreditation with the "Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges" in Arlington, VA, which largely supports trade schools and distance learning.

Viks tried to show mercy last year but the last two touchdowns were a punt return and an interception return. Hard to tell third and fourth stringers not to score when they may not get the opportunity again.

this!

SFA was set with the 2024 schedule and then left the WAC at the last minute for the SLC and scrambled to redo a new schedule and took what they could get.

It was 70-0 at halftime and then they cut the quarters to 5 minutes for the second half each.

I agree I don't like these games either, but moving on now to Denton.

With the reduced time for the second half, the junior varsity cheerleaders only put up 7 points.

Zero reason for these games. Any FCS school that schedules North American should be embarrassed.

Speaking of Lincoln I see Northern Arizona plays them tomorrow so expect another public execution disguised as a football game.

Northeastern did that for years! Let's be real that was pretty much the Brookline HS field.

Totally agree. Aren't there at least couple dozen D2 schools in Texas and Oklahoma, and a bunch in Arkansas? Someone would've taken that call.

On the other side of the coin, I remember there was one year maybe 10 years back when somebody dropped Colgate and they ultimately decided to keep a ten game schedule than to dumpster dive for a crappy opponent. And people gave them **** for that decision too so it goes both ways I guess.

Virginia-Lynchburg is another random non-affiliated indy school that seems to be a traveling road show that exists exclusively to get demolished by mediocre FCS teams.

I'm pretty sure Colgate thumbed their nose at a Bryant program which was absurd then and even more ridiculous now.

North American is at the pinnacle of "scheduling embarrassment" right now. Zero reason a D1 program should be playing this school when there are better options (simply keeping an open week) available when applying just a hint of discretion.

Yep, would've been ridiculous then. I don't recall hearing that. I figured maybe they were "thumbing their nose" at the Lock Havens, Paces and Assumptions, not a potential DI opponent.

They had to schedule somebody at the last minute. If theyd left it open, have a good year but with that open date, they would get hosed like uiw did last year.

They needed a game

Who's Denton? Don't think I've ever heard of them. Maybe a low level FBS (I don't pay much attention to FBS)? Or D2/D3/NAIA?

Home of the University of North Texas Eagles. No longer a small town--its population is now larger than Syracuse or Hartford.
