YSU opens the season on Thursday at Villanova. Thiis will be the 11th meeting between the two with the Penguins holding a 7-3 margin in wins.

Villanova returns numerous starters from last years playoff team and the heavy favorite to win the CAA. YSU, picked to finish 7th in the 11 team MVFC, loaded up on 21 transfers to replace an entire D lost through the portal.

Nova will be the favorite. The question will be winning margin. Game is set for 6 p.m.

Again, for my money their best QB is a RFR. And he is a real QB , not the pretends that are ahead of him.

YSU D weak against the run. Beau throws 2 INTs and has a fumble. QB and D was identified preseason as the problem. We will win the next 2 weenie games but will quickly revisit what will be season long problems.

Overall, having a QB in his 1st starting role on the road against #6. A defense that is pieced together and special needs special teams. I'd say being dropped by 7 to one of the best FCS teams is a good game.

Tighten up the tackling, take care of the ball, and teach receiving kicks we'll be alright.

Nova is bad ass.

I had it 'Nova 31-23 so this game went about as I expected.

'Nova is absolutely loaded. YSU is a Top 15 team....

Nailed the 7 point margin for Nova. This squad could have quit down 24-3 but they had a legit shot to potentially tie the game on that last drive. Beau certainly has his issues with his arm that will need to be evaluated each week.

Nova will win most games on their schedule and will likely remain a top 8 squad all year. With a D that we had absolutely zero knowledge of, I will take it.

Still think 7-5 is doable, but need to clean up tackling and QB play must improve.

Sleeping on it, I suspect YSU will lose its only real QB. After being the most impressive QB in the Red- White game and playing well in preseason, why would he stay playing behind lesser players for 4 years when he can hit the portal and find a home who will use his superior passing skills. I think Schondelmyer is gone.

While Nova is good, I also suspect the MVFC has better run teams and YSU is going to get pounded. We have no run D. Pass D is still in question as Nova QB did not have a good pass game.

Finally the 3 turnovers hurt. Your QB can’t fumble and throw 2 INTs and expect to win, especially on the road, much less at home. Despite making the score closer after falling behind early , 24-3, I’d grade the O as a C and the D as a C-

I don't think we watched the same game. The passing defense seemed better. This team returned their QB and their best WR from last year and they only got 90 yards passing the whole game. Granted, the run defense was worse, but it was the first game and I saw tons of missed tackles.

This team once it jells Beau settles in and the Oline gets it's act together the guins will be fine. Will be similar to SIU.

We will revisit this comment later in the season. My comment was made mid game as we were getting hammered for big yards. If you watched the game, Novas QB did not have a good game. Accuracy was off , dropped balls, timing on patterns, etc. It certainly wasn’t because of YSU coverage. And that was my point. Novas poor pass game was not because of YSU but because of their own play.

i don’t want to crap on Novas win, they won, but they are over rated. They will play a weak CAA schedule and win a lot of games. They will make the playoffs. But their season would be different if forced to play a MVFC schedule as we do. We will see better teams and our pass D is going to be in trouble. We will revisit yours and my comment about the pass D. Till then, let’s watch the next 2 weenie games where pass D should shine and then cross your fingers when the MVFC wars begin.
