BRANDON -- "The Streak" is over.
The Brandon High (Florida) wrestling program's national record of 459 consecutive dual match victories -- the longest for any high school sport -- was snapped Saturday night by South Dade, which, at 9:02 p.m., sealed its 32-28 history-making victory in the finals of the Jim Graves "Beat the Streak" Tournament.
The streak, started nearly 34 years ago from scratch in near-empty gyms before the Bucs existed, the Vietnam War ended and ESPN was created, was broken in front of about 800 fans and an ESPN camera crew.

Brandon wrestling is a dynasty. You better believe everybody that goes against them will be in for a rough time. Those were some upset kids and parents.

Thanks for posting that. The Brandon youth program is phenominal. Some of their wrestlers travel up here to PA for youth tourneys.
Lehigh's David Craig attended Brandon as was 184-0 (or 179-0 depending on the source) in high school.

Brandon has a great wrestling program and a pretty good (although no where neat that level) basketball program.

During their run of 459 consecutive dual championships, they were also impressive at state meets. From the article:
"The streak included 66 individual state champions and 18 team titles, including seven straight (all of which are state records)."
18 team titles in 34 years in incredible! It's too bad this streak had to end, but congratulations to all of the students who achieved this record. xbowx
