2024 Preseason Conference Polls

[Professor Chaos]

Media days are starting to kick up and over the course of the next couple weeks most of the conferences will produce preseason polls from either votes from the coaches, the media, or both. I'll compile them all in this thread since I like to use these as a tool to help build my preseason AGS Poll. If you see a conference poll released feel free to post it and I'll update the main thread.

Big South-OVC has stepped up their game in recent years. I see 3-4 teams that could be a factor nationally....

I still lean towards SEMO although Martin and EIU should be right there. I'm not sure if there was a team that suffered more crushing/absurd losses than SEMO last season.

We'll see if they're right but I don't buy that WIU is a last place OVC team. Put many of these OVC/Big South teams in the MVFC and they wouldn't do much better than WIU did.... maybe I'm wrong but I think WIU will surprise some people now that they're in a league where they're on more equal footing competitively.

The UAC will probably look something like the list below. You might see a couple of 3-5 switched around some... I would like to see the UAC stay together. It continues to be a solid league from top to bottom, even with UWG being a transitioning newcomer. I think they will do well eventually. Yes, it's spread-out, but it covers a decent footprint. AP is a big question with its huge turnover, but I think they brought in a lot of quality. Does it translate right away on the field? ACU, SUU and EKU continue to improve, but has Tarleton stayed ahead of them? I don't think anyone will question UCA being the favorite.

The league's head coaches voted in the Big South/OVC poll. Based on the point totals it looks like coaches weren't allowed to vote for their own team so they only ranked the other 8 teams meaning that all the other head coaches except one ranked WIU last and the one who didn't ranked them 2nd to last.

Last year, Lindenwood finished last in the OVC. Lindenwood beat WIU. So there's that.

I think WIU will ultimately be fine in the OVC. The first few years will be a bit tumultuous though. That program is in dire straits right now from my understanding.

I'll be watching to see how much they have closed the offense/defense gap. Last year they only beat us by 1 point. Yes, that's all it takes, but if we have improved both our offense and defense, and they only improved their offense, that may not be enough. We will see though. Tarleton games are always a nail biter just like the SFA games...

That program is in dire straits right now from my understanding.

The last few years, yes. This year...who knows? New coach, new coaching staff, pretty much an entirely new team (I think there's maybe one starter left from last year). We're unlikely to go winless since we're also playing a DII who went 5-6 last year, but beyond that...idk...anywhere between last and middle-of-the-pack in the OVC seems possible. This year, I'm just hoping we can win a conference game or two; maybe pull out 3-4 total wins.

I think the only surprise for me for the UAC was the amount of love SUU got. I think that the Justin Miller loss will be difficult to overcome. They felt AP isn't going to get their good recruiting class into playoff shape yet. I didn't think so either, but think they might have dropped them a little too low.

So feel free to hammer away at your preseason poll since there won't be any more conference preseason polls until the day before the AGS Poll closes for preseason submissions (which is on 7/31).

I like Colgate this year to win the league. It's nice to see Georgetown not ranked 6th or 7th by default in a pre-season poll.
