UNH brings back a lot of players that played a fair amount last season. Even guys like Toman (2 Games), Neill and McClurg, who weren't FT starters, got a good deal of run. My big concerns is at DE, where Maroney and Peters just aren't very good. UNH will need production from that position for the defense to improve.

I think you are right about Hennessee. I'd look to see Ben Jorden in this spot. He will be a RS Frosh next year. Saw him play HS ball at Charlotte Latin and he is a great catching TE. Blocking is solid but not as good as Bettis from a few years back but still pretty good. I actually think that Tavaris Washington may get the starting nod over Coco. He will be a lot like Dexter was this year and TJ will be a lot like Hans. Another receiver to keep an eye on is Matt Cline. I am pretty sure he will be a RS Sophomore next year but the coaches were pretty high on him and he actually had the first catch at the Michigan game. On my final note Mario Acitelli will be a Sophomore next year if he is granted the Medical RS.

Yup.. Furman, by virtue of their underachievement in 2007, is going to come into 2008 under the radar and maybe not even ranked. However, anybody who thinks Furman isn't a very serious playoff contender in 2008 is going to get a nasty surprise.

If someone steps in for the secondary it'll not be for Gilbert or Love, those are two solid players. Gilbert played extremely well filling in for both DBs during the playoffs. Love, his time is due.

As far as in the WRs, it may not be a full on switch...but they have tons of quality players to fill in. If ASU doesn't sign a QB, I see Hillary not playing as much as WR being the primary backup for Armanti. Johnson is a solid WR and one of Armanti's favorite targets. Came on late as a freshman, did a good job last year. Quick, played good against Michigan but I believe he hurt his shoulder and was sidelined for most of the year. Surprise of the year could be Blake Elder, Trey's younger brother. He was second string behind Hans last year and got more reps as he learned the system.

I would be very suprised if we weren't ranked. We finished the last half of the season only losing to App and beating ranked Elon and ranked GSU in consecutive weeks before pummeling WCU.

The question next season is Furman's defense. Our offense has the possibility of being an absolute juggernaut.

Yes, I absolutely am. You cannot stop the running game with Terrance Klein or Maurice Duper in the box over a third LB. There is no better time to make the conversion than now, with our excellent LB depth. Jackson, Ware and Parent starting, and guys like Peterkuskie, Cosgrove and potentially, Ruhl, as backups, they should use that depth to their best.

I would still have to rate the defensive line as the strength of the defense. When is the last time Furman could say that? Projected starters; Brown, Ray, Jones, Burnett, White will be joined by a very promising group of redshirts:

Yep. He has great hands but apparently can't get open enough. All he does is catch the ball when it is thrown to him so I am hoping he sees the field a lot more next season.

For those unfamiliar, Julian Hicks was Furman's spy during the GSU game on Jayson Foster. He was (as far as I saw this season) the only FCS player who contained the Eagle quarterback.

Furman is certainly upping their speed department on defense.

The ASU lineup looks stellar... no questions at wr, rb, qb, dline, or lb
oline has guys coming back from injuries, and non starters but plenty of experience
the secondary is definately the biggest question... cortez will be a star in my opinion and love will be fine but beyond that there are a lot of question marks for sure...

The team that should scare the poop out of the whole country is Richmond. I believe they are returning about the whole team. They were very very young this year and got to the semi's. They should be rated in the top 4. From what I saw in Boone this year they are the real deal!

Richmond will definitely be good but with a new coach it may throw a wrinkle into them getting in their groove at the beginning of the season which may cost them.

Furman's offense will be very good, possibly dominant, but defense is still a huge question. The Paladins need a better pass rush and better coverage. If that happens, watch out.

Wouldn't lock L.Love in for that spot just yet, depends on spring practice, transfers and incoming freshmen. He will continue to get playing time regardless but the other safety spot wasn't a strength this year and something kept him from securing the starting spot this past season.

Jerry doesn't hand out positions just because you've paid your dues (see Trey Elder and Cam Spear). The better player will claim the spot, even if they are a freshman.

The two corners will likely be Gilbert and Reine. I know Love and Mark LeGree are listed as a corners but IMO they're more likely leaders for the safety positions but one or both of those spots could very well end up as a freshman or transfer.

Furman's defensive front four was the top in the conference in terms of sacking the quarterback in 2007. App State registered the second most and played four more games.

The Paladins will miss the presence of Wallace Artis on the outside. However, they are starting to move to smaller, quicker defensive ends (away from the bigger bookends like Artis, Ravenell, Glover, etc).

Justin Brown has the potential to be one of the best interior defensive lineman in the conference in 2008.

UNH brings back a lot of players that played a fair amount last season. Even guys like Toman (2 Games), Neill and McClurg, who weren't FT starters, got a good deal of run. My big concerns is at DE, where Maroney and Peters just aren't very good. UNH will need production from that position for the defense to improve.

I think that Mason will get the nod over Chandler for WR3. I think something will be done about the DE position, I agree, we must get some sacks from them!!!
