Less than 50 days and I know this is early but though why not start a preview of opening weekend games for ongoing discussion. Lots of time to speculate and discuss.

Lots of games. A preview below of each.

FBS GAMES, seven in total this 1st week.
ELON @ DUKE
Elon has yet to win an FBS game since playing FCS football, 0-14 in total. The Phoenix are 0-8-1 all time vs Duke though only one game in the modern era, Duke winning 52-13 in 2014. Elon played a competitive game @ Wake Forest last year and vs Vanderbilt the previous year. Still an underdog here vs Duke but feel Elon has a decent chance here.

NC A&T @ WAKE FOREST
Aggies are coming off a 1-10 season last year though it wasnÂ’t too long ago the Aggies were winning, actually a three game winning streak vs FBS teams - 2016 (beat ECU), 2017 (beat Charlotte) and 2018 (Kent State). Best I could research, the Aggies are 3-5 vs FBS opponents. They played and lost at Wake in 2004. This is a neighborhood game, the schools only 20 miles apart.

UNH @ UCF
The Wildcats like the Aggies also have a decent history vs FBS opponents. They are 8-19 vs FBS, their last win against Georgia Southern in 2017, 22-12. UNH came so close last year, losing 45-42 late at Central Michigan. This match-up looks much more daunting though never count out UNH.

RICHMOND @ UVA
Spiders last CAA season starts in Charlottesville in a game that on paper, appears it can be competitive though the Cavaliers are 30-3-2 against UR all time. The Spiders are 5-27 vs FBS opponents, their last win at Virginia in 2016, 37-20. UR lost at Michigan State last year, 45-14. I donÂ’t get the feeling UR is coming into the season with a lot of swagger. The PL decision has seemed early to take a toll on their players and fanbase as an indication of administrative downgrade of the football program. Maybe this first game since the decision will be some extra motivation for the Spiders

CAMPBELL @ LIBERTY
The Camels are also looking for their first FBS win. They are 0-5 overall with none of the games close. Campbell was trounced in Chapel Hill last year, 59-7. The Camels are 0-1 vs Liberty all time.

TOWSON @ CINCINNATI
Ist meeting between these two. The Tigers are 1-13 vs FBS opponents, their single win vs UConn in 2013. Towson lost at Maryland last year, 38-6. You get the feeling Towson may be on an upswing so while this doesnÂ’t appear to be a possible scalp, I wouldnÂ’t be surprised if it was competitive for a half.

STONY BROOK @ MARSHALL
The Herd almost took it on the chin against UAlbany last year but this one likely wonÂ’t be as close. The Seawolves are riding a 10+ game losing streak into this game. SBU is 1-13 vs FBS, their lone win @ Army in 2012, 23-3. SBU lost at Arkansas State last year, 31-7.

Beyond this schedule of opening FBS games, there is an impressive schedule of FCS match-upÂ’s for other CAA teams on the docket:

VMI @ W&M
This is an old historic rivalry by any standard. VMI is the Tribes most played opponent after Richmond, W&M leading the series 53-33-2. The two have not played though since 2011, a 24-7 Tribe win. W&M has won an incredible 25 straight games in the series, the last Keydet win in 1985 on a TD and 2 point conversion at the horn, 39-38. Should be a great atmosphere in Zable for this revival of which 3 more games have been scheduled in the future.

HOLY CROSS @ URI
The Rams kickoff with a great OOC match-up vs a depleted Crusaders team. How depleted is debatable though losing Sluka and a coach is a tough act to follow for anyone. I still see this though as a bit of a toss-up. Despite being relatively close in distance, these two have only met 10 times, the Crusaders with a 9-1 series advantage. Whoever wins will have an impressive OOC win in their pocket.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE @ VILLANOVA
MV vs CAA, another great opener for FCS. Villanova beat the Penguins in last years playoffs, 45-24. Youngstown leads the series 7-3. I donÂ’t know much of the history here though I seem to have read these two have had some notable games in the series.

MONMOUTH @ EASTERN WASHINGTON
CAA vs BIG SKY. A tough opener for the Hawks and also the long distance travel award. Don’t know much about EWU except they are a frequent playoff participant. This will be a long shot I think for the Hawks.

COLGATE @ MAINE
Another coin flip it would seem. The Raiders lead the series 3-2 and won the last match-up in 2022, 21-15. This will be one of three CAA/PL match-ups in week one.

LIU @ UALBANY
Ist meeting though you could see this becoming a frequent OOC game in future years. The Danes are coming off a program best season. The ending at SDS was disappointing to say the least so this will be the Danes first chance to address. Should be a happy opener at UALbany.

HAMPTON @ MORGAN STATE
A long history between these two, the Bears lead the series 37-26-2. These two have not played though since 2016, a 21-12 Hampton win. The Pirates are breaking in a new coach and some controversy on the dismissal which doesnÂ’t give a good feeling for the prospects at Hampton this year.

BRYANT @ DELAWARE
The CAAs newest member playing one the CAAs oldest members in a non conference match-up. Yes, thereÂ’s irony here given the Hens distaste for new members like Bryant yet they had no problem scheduling them OOC. Tough to tell which way this one rolls - Bryant hasnÂ’t actually been a patsy - they almost beat UDs new conference playmate FIU in 2022. Expectations are always high in Newark. I think a Hen win is expected. A Hen loss here would be I think a major embarrassment given all the bravado out of UD.

HereÂ’s to a great season and a very interesting line-up of week 1 games. I intend to provide weekly previews for discussion as the season rolls on. IÂ’m not looking to tabulate any standings on picks but if someone else wants to do so, might be interest in that. In the meantime, lots of discussion material here.

Weighing in on the Lafayette vs. Monmouth game as a passionate Lafayette poster. Not sure what Monmouth has coming back. Lafayette has an All League Junior QB in Dean Denobile who played a huge role in their success last year. They also return Walter Payton award finalist (1460 yards) and 2nd team All American running back Jamar Curtis for his Junior season. Up front they have a huge offensive line anchored by left tackle Ryder Langsdale who Sports Illustrated has ranked the number 5 tackle in all of FCS football.

On defense they have a team lead by All American DB Saiku White. Sports Illustrated has him as the number 4 DB in FCS. Also back for his sophomore season is Jaylon Joseph who was a finalist for the Jerry Rice award (top Freshman in FCS) to anchor the D line. He's also a member of the Freshman All American team.

Fact is Lafayette goes into this season still very young. I talked to Coach Trox right before the Holy Cross game last year (we were team mates at Lafayette). He was standing outside the locker room because he was too nervous to be inside. He admitted he would "be useless in there". I asked him what to expect from that day's game against the juggernaut that was Holy Cross. He said honestly he didn't know. He said, "I know we're going to fight. That much I can promise". He went on to admit he had was pretty pleasantly surprised by the success the team enjoyed up until that point last year. He said, according to his plan, "being in contention for the league championship wasn't supposed to happen until year three" of his tenure.

I'm picking Lafayette.

Sorry Gravilco, that’s a week 2 game. Not sure how I got that mixed up into Week 1. I did go back and update Monmouth’s opener at EWU.

Appreciate the insight though. The game will be featured in the CAA Week 2 previews.

That’s why people think Hens fans are delusional. Have you really looked at your new league? Who’s in it? How it operates? How it relates to where you are?

You’re funny but for why you think you may be.

There’s a way to leave and no one has been worse at it or more condescending - without the chops mind you - then Delaware fans.

Technically, Albany played LIU (C.W. Post) three times between 1995-98 in Division-II days, when the Pioneers played at the same field that the Sharks do now. Of course that was before all current players were born.

even though it is s week 2 matchup I will at least reply if that is ok to Sitting Bull who did a fine job with this thread and analysis. This reply can sort of act as a reply to you but also my condensed MU preview of sorts.

You guys will be coming off an FBS game ( and maybe a win which frankly I will be rooting for) and we will be coming off a LONG road trip to EWU.I do not love our chances based on what I know of EWU- Although they were I think 4-7 they beat 2 ranked teams and played another couple top teams close and apparently return a strong QB/WR combo to go against our entirely new D-backfield. Both are Thursday night road games.

There is at least a moderate chance both of us enter at 0-1 and not wanting to start 0-2 although frankly I can see you guys winning. If EWU is even an average Big Sky team, I cannot see us winning that game mainly due to the fact that this is a almost entirely new group for us.

We have some talent and a few key transfers and recruits and younger guys yet to see much time but the chances of it coming together early seem marginal at best. The 1 starting OL we had returning will now not be back due to unknown issues ( I think I know but no point in divulging). So we have a brand new O line, although a few guys have at least seen time. Our QB is new (Robertson from Maine) and although word from campus is he looks good, it still remains an unknown. We lose our top 3 WR's although do have some potential there IMO, but nothing that stands out as someone that needs to be game planned for at least to start. Our slot guys should be shifty and the one kid TJ Speight has great speed and could be a player this year. Obviously we lose Shirden, but I am bullish on our RB situation. The problem is do we have the ability to block for them? Sone Ntoh will be the starter and he is BIG and FAST. Check out this clip below and keep in mind he is almost 240 lbs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtWGGMx4BWY

We have this kid Makhi Green who is small but a track star who will prob rotate with him and see some catches from the slot as well.

Believe it or not, other than losing ALL out DB's plus the top 2 backups I think our D will finally be decent. We did not have a DC last year and hired a former MU coach and a guy who was at NDSU and he is young, aggressive and good. Although we lost a couple guys to the portal, we have a deep and diverse D line and a good groupof LB's. We got 2 really good transfers, one from Sacred Heart, another from Bucknell who will be good and also a DB from Temple who was a 3-4 year starter there plus a DB from Nova- so if they pan out and mesh and we get a pass rush to alleviate pressure off our inexperienced DB's I think our D could be formidable. A shame b/c frankly if we had a formidable D ether of the last 2 years we are in the playoffs both years probably.

Honestly, on paper this looks like a "down" year. I know that sounds weird seeing as we were 5-6 and 4-7 but we were a very competitive team in doing so. We lose 2 First team All Americans WR and RB (Miller and Shirden) , our entire O line, our QB and all our DB's- It would take some serious coaching and gelling to be competitive with the schedule we have. With that said, the one plus I see is that we have no "superstars" coming into the year, but word is they are all about each other and the locker room will be good. I could see us being 3-9 (12 game schedule for us) just as easy as 7-5, 8-4. We had a "ranked" recruiting class this year and landed a top 5 NJ recruit in Willy Love out of Camden. The last 2 classes have been stellar but most have not seen the field yet, so who knows? Honestly we are a serious unknown and for the first time in forever I have no clue what to expect. Football is weird, sometimes the teams you think are "the one" just dont pan out and sometimes the ones that are under the radar can surprise. This will have to be true team football with savvy coaching and The O line must at least be adequate. If those things happen and Robertson likes our system I truly think we can be competitive, but just based on returning starters, guys we lost and history, we should be like a 10 pt underdog against you guys - It is a scary game for us, b/c if we lose to EWU which is likely and lose to you, that is a brand new team at 0-2 who would still have FBS game, Nova, Delaware, URI, UNH, Maine, Fordham, Towson and do not laugh but Bryant is not a cupcake. Frankly, I think it is a must win game for us if we are to make any nose at all this year. Your D line against our O line will be the key and it does not favor us.

Thanks, Carib! I checked but think best I steer clear of that question as my opinion on CUSA interest wouldn’t be well received. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t enjoy a future relationship for W&M and the Hens, the CUSA option would not work for W&M on so many levels imo.

You would take some hits but remember for every person that posts you probably have 10 that don’t

So what about a move to the Southern Conference ?

Maybe this can be another thread but the short answer imo, there is no better option for W&M - ALL sports home, membership, geography - than the CAA. Our AD has been adamant and committed, understandably so. No knock on the Patriot and Southern, two great leagues, but neither fit W&M like the CAA.

As you know, we kickoff with VMI week one, an old So Con rival. The Keydet rivalry is one I hope W&M keeps on tap for years to come, regardless of conference affiliation.

Maine needs to rise to mid-pack (5-10) this season. I think they can. If they don't then Jordan Stevens will be in a must win situation in 2025. They can't afford a third 2-9 season in a row.

This is just my opinion but I think NC A&T will be a decent out in the CAA. Schedule gods did them dirty this year but I could see them being a middle of the pack team this season.

Breaking down their schedule:

Wake Forest: L
Winston-Salem: W
Delaware: W(The FBS letdown for Delaware)
NC Central: L(Rivalry game and then the Letdown for A&T)
SC State: W
Richmond: L
Hampton:W
Campbell:W
W&M: L
Nova:L
Towson: W
Elon: L

6-6(4-3) would be a good showing. I think the media polls were wrong on them. I have them better than at least 6-8 teams in the CAA.

old timer like yourself basing what constitutes a cupcake or contender based on a pre season poll huh? That is funny- but take a look at Bryant's game by game results from last year including their win over Princeton, and TWO one point OT losses to a playoff team and a first 4 out playoff contender. Although southeast Missouri was not good record wise they played and/or won close games against ranked teams and Bryant curb stomped them so that is another one. They dismantled Charlie Southern, a team who William and Mary could barely beat, and who beat Kennesaw. I have no clue what they have coming back, but I would venture to guess nobody here agrees with you that Bryant is a cupcake.. Technically you did noy say they were but it is implied. I guess The Hens will be the first to find out- while I fully expect you to win 8/29 I bet it is not a walk in the park. We find out in one month.

If we have any shot of winning 4 CAA games, we'll have to beat NCCU in their home barn. The last time we played there in 2019, we spanked them 45-0. But if we catch 4 wins in the CAA (highly unlikely) A&T is fighting for a playoff spot.

There hasn't been a single game option for paying @ FLO, which is my biggest complaint about FLO. The shortest subscription is a month. You actually save a little $ if you join FLO thru the CAA program. I haven't started my football season month to month subscription yet and fortunately I don't need to until September since UNH, and many other CAA teams, are on the road for their one August game. So my FLO info is 2023 vintage.

My biggest complaint is that FLO separates hockey from it's regular sports package. So, hypothetically let's say you have a family member who subscribes to watch CAA Football, you can't use their login to watch AHA hockey games. As you know, that's Holy Cross league in Men's Hockey and it's a FLO conference. The one nice thing about FLO is that they are less strict than ESPN when it comes to allowing leagues to double dip and have their games simultaneously broadcast on local sports networks. So, I was able to see us play LIU and Sacred Heart on SNY last year.

CAA vs BIG SKY. A tough opener for the Hawks and also the long distance travel award. Don’t know much about EWU except they are a frequent playoff participant. This will be a long shot I think for the Hawks.

Interesting that Massey has this a pretty tight game, predicting 34-28 for the host EWU. That would be a fine showing in my view for the Hawks. Massey has Monmouth ranked #41 in FCS.

As most can attest to here (namely our Delaware brethren) I am a rosy eyed and biased Monmouth optimist. The tale of the tape is this:

EWU returns 16 starters, 8 on each side of the ball, including a very good QB and WR corps. We LOSE 16 starters including our QB, RB, top 3 WR's and entire offensive line and entire secondary.. I am not trying to sell MU short so if we compete it looks better but I see virtually no way we can even compete in this game.

Last year EWU took FBS Fresno to 2 OT and lost. Fresno was a 9-4 bowl team who beat Purdue on the road and shutout Arizona State- Ok not exactly gangbusters but? They also beat 2 ranked FCS teams and played Idaho within 1 score. They put up 30+pts 8 times and 40+ 4 times. Clearly they had a problem on defense but this is playing against vastly better comp than The CAA.

The game is not played on paper but if they have any coaching whatsoever, they will attack our new secondary early and often. What I CAN say for us is that we have a new DC, (we had no real DC last year believe it or not as he resigned 2 weeks before the season) We have what I am convicted in a very decent D-Line and front 7 in general including some quasi cant miss transfers in terms of being disruptive. But brand new O line protecting a new QB and no Shirden (W&M knows all about Shirden) and top 3 WR gone and Sone Ntoh would need 30+ carries for 200 yards to even keep this close and EWU offense off the field. I think we have enough talent to "compete" in most CAA games- not win, but compete. But this is another level- EWU was 4-7 but go look for yourself at their results. They were not far away from being a playoff team with a good FBS win. 16 guys back from that squad and we lose virtually everyone from a 4-7 team that although lost some close games, ended up being average at best. Add in the travel and just normal BS and this could be like a 45-17 game. Maybe I am doing the reverse jinx and my guys will shock me, but not a great setup. I LOVE the game but not sure we can match up.

Some additional history digging around on this match-up, it turns out that 4 of the 10 previous games were all PLAYOFF MATCH-UPS. In addition to last year, the 91, 92 and 97 games were all playoff games. And check the scores, all these games have been incredibly competitive.

YSU vs. Villanova History

Nov. 13, 1999 | W, 28-21 (Away)
Dec. 6, 1997 | W, 37-34 (Away)
Nov. 28, 1992 | W, 23-20 (Home)
Nov. 30, 1991 | W, 17-16 (Home)
Oct. 6, 1979 | W, 27-22 (Away)
Oct. 28, 1978 | L, 17-22 (Home)
Sept. 10, 1977 | W, 14-10 (Away)
Oct. 23, 1976 | L, 14-34 (Away)
Nov. 8, 1975 | W, 25-6 (Home)

Given Villanova has nabbed the preseason #1 slot in the CAA - along with a #6 national ranking - this game is taking top interest in week 1. The match-up is a test vs the MV, unquestionably the top conference in FCS.

Massey is favoring Villanova, 29-24. The winner here gets a huge OOC win that will be pivotal come playoff selection.

“HOLY CROSS @ URI
The Rams kickoff with a great OOC match-up vs a depleted Crusaders team. How depleted is debatable though losing Sluka and a coach is a tough act to follow for anyone. I still see this though as a bit of a toss-up. Despite being relatively close in distance, these two have only met 10 times, the Crusaders with a 9-1 series advantage. Whoever wins will have an impressive OOC win in their pocket.”

Huge losses (far beyond Sluka) to graduation including an NFL draft pick on the OL (Hanson) , two-time PL Defensive Player of the Year ((Dobbs), and the program's all-time touchdown and receiving yards player (Coker) mean the new coach at Holy Cross has got a pretty bare cupboard. Well-timed departure for the old coach :). Graduation losses hit Holy Cross particularly hard because they don't use the portal to bring in players.

URI should win handily in the first of several tough OOC matchups (Syracuse, UNH, Harvard, Yale...) for Holy Cross in a rebuild year.

This might be a huge OOC win for YSU but not so much for Nova. YSU is preseason #7 in MVFC and lost nearly their entire defense and appear wanting at the QB position. Nova should be a prohibitive favorite after a dominating win in the playoffs last year.

I think Nova will be good, especially in the watered-down CAA and not having Richmond or W&M on the schedule, but not #6 in the country good. Cats lost a lot of playmakers-their 3 best running backs Jackson, Ayo-Durojaiye and Barlee (6th year & 2 5th year) and 2 best receivers Hayek & Pringle (both 5th year). They do have some talented players waiting in the wings but it's tough to replace these 5 who took advantage of the extra Covid year to get Masters degrees.

Here's hoping, but we have our own QB loss that we're dealing with. Kasim Hill left URI 6th in career rushing touchdowns, 3rd in career passes completed, 3rd in career passing yards, and 2nd in career touchdown passes. His backup last year originally started college at Virginia Tech and we brought in a guy from Clemson, so there should be plenty of talent there but inexperience could be an issue early.

Should be a great atmosphere in Zable for this revival of which 3 more games have been scheduled in the future.

.

A few comments in todays RTD on the Keydets and their potential rushing attack. Coach Rocco bullish on the OL and potential attack. The Tribe will similarly rely on their rushing game given the return of Yoder and Imoh.

Massey has the Tribe winning 32-13.

Had to chuckle about playing a decade, it was close at 7 seasons, https://gorhody.com/sports/football/roster/kasim-hill/7469 . This guy had quite a career playing for Tennessee and Maryland before landing at URI. AT 6'2" and 234 lbs he was tough to take down but like you mentioned he took a hit and kept on playing. Poor matchup to judge the MVFC this year. While Nova is picked to win the CAA, YSU is picked to finish 7th in the 11 team MVFC. They were destroyed by losses to the portal. Nova will be a heavy favorite.

No away game factor as this is not pay-for-play. Payments are for service they provide to local charities. They are required to pay self-employment taxes of 15%. They all receive 1099s. Individual tax situations vary and the Alliance provides professional tax advice if they desire. The 1693 Alliance is an LLC.

A few comments in todays RTD on the Keydets and their potential rushing attack. Coach Rocco bullish on the OL and potential attack. The Tribe will similarly rely on their rushing game given the return of Yoder and Imoh.

Massey has the Tribe winning 32-13.

Game is designated a White Out on Thursday night,

Here we go...

Duke 31 Elon 21: A Phoenix win would not surprise me...
Wake Forest 45 NC A&T 17: Clawson is too good of a coach to post back-2-back losing seasons in the ACC as presently constructed. WF won't be looking past the Aggies...
UCF 52 UNH 14: UCF is a sleeper in the Big 12. Malzahn has stock piled a ton of talent in Orlando....
Virginia 38 Richmond 20: Spiders hand around but the Cavs too good over the course of 60 minutes...
Liberty 63 Campbell 28: Flames should be able to light up the scoreboard...
Cincinnati 30 Towson 13: It would not shock me if this game is closer. The Bearcats have experienced a huge talent drain the last 2 years....
Marshall 55 Stony Brook 16: Marshall will roll....
W&M 41 VMI 27: Tribe thwart the Keydets...
URI 34 Holy Cross 28: This is one of the most intriguing FCS games in Week 1. I basically see it as a coin-flip with URI getting a slight based on program continuity and being home.
Villanova 31 Youngstown State 23: I expect this game to be closer than the playoff meeting but the outcome will be the same...
Eastern Washington 49 Monmouth 30: I applaud the Hawks ambition! I remember when they trekked out to Bozeman a decade or so ago...
Colgate 27 Maine 21: If Colgate wanted to be taken seriously in the PL race, let alone on the national scene, this is a must win for the Raiders..
Albany 34 LIU 10: I believe the Danes will take a big step back this season. Even so, they'll eradicate the Fighting Jaws...
Hampton 24 Morgan State 21: I give a slight edge to the Pirates...
Delaware 37 Bryant 13: What happens if the Hens lose?

No away game factor as this is not pay-for-play. Payments are for service they provide to local charities. They are required to pay self-employment taxes of 15%. They all receive 1099s. Individual tax situations vary and the Alliance provides professional tax advice if they desire. The 1693 Alliance is an LLC.
Curious …

Does the Collective make, say, a monthly transfer of funds (not a donation per se, it wouldn’t seem) to each participating charitable organization based upon expected “services” that W&M Athletes will provide to that organization during the relevant time period and then the charitable organizations makes payments to the W&M Athletes based upon some prior agreed-upon rates for particular services and/or particular athletes / sports / position groups AFTER the W&M Athletes provide such services? Assuming such a structure would include a periodic ‘truing up’ of the balances held, if any, by the charitable organizations…

…OR…

…Does the Collective ‘pay’ the W&M Athletes directly based upon…

- self-reporting from the W&M Athletes?

…OR…

- self-reporting with required supporting confirmation of services rendered from the charitable organizations?

…OR…

- solely upon ‘advice’ from the charitable organizations regarding services rendered by W&M Athletes

1-0 vs So Con
1-0 vs MV
0-1 vs Big Sky
0-2 vs FBS

I’m not sure any huge surprises here. Based on just points and differential, Monmouth I thought competed very well out west. W&M overperformed the point spread by near 20 points. I feel bad for UNH, UCF is a very tough place to play. That was a tough way to open the season. The Aggies put some points on the board at Wake. The Hens rolled over Bryant.

Or at least explain financially why they do it- Hard to imagine it being that much of a benefit over ESPN- I do know that b/c of this teams get to also be on Linear TV like regional NBC, SNY etc. which is great for exposure but for fans that go to home games it is meaningless. In 2024, a person should be able to watch a college football game with similar/same quality as anything else streaming. ESPN had certain minimum mandates/requirements for schools to broadcast. To be clear, it is the University with the main issue not FlO- watch any Monmouth game on Flo (home game) and it will be super quality b/c we invested in this years ago when we were with ESPN.. I dont care about the $14.99 a month, that is what a Jersey Mikes Sub cost, but I truly wonder how tis has not been addressed by The CAA in terms of an explanation as to why we accept inferior quality. Maybe it has.. But you are right, wasting time talking about it will not change it.

Carter Peevy’s Passing Efficiency Rating last night was 150.59

2023 Payton Award winner, South Dakota State’s Mark Gronowski, had the highest 2023 season rating at 179.67.

150.59 would have been ranked as the 18th highest QB Efficiency Rating in FCS in 2023.

Peevy also ran for a TD.

With a nice win, FUBeAR would think that Peevy’s 1st outing as a Black Bear would be viewed as solid & successful.

Well, we'll see how we fare against a Sunbelt team this week which just boat raced a CUSA team that went 9-4 (6-2 conference) last year. If we can stay within 28 of them maybe we should think about it. On second thought, maybe not.

Monmouth has been in almost all of their FCS games since joining the CAA.
It's hard to say anything positive about a 57-3 loss, but the UNH defense played well until a total lack of offensive production just plain wore them down. Wande Owens, Yale grad transfer, played lights out all night. Had we still had Brosmer and Laube we might have scored a couple more times, and possessed the ball for a longer time; however I still think UCF would have won big - maybe 50 - 14?

I understand that. Changes can be exciting, see where it goes.

most fans just don’t like the new improved CAA and realize the glory days of the conference are gone with the wind

They are definitely looking for something exciting and new, they want recognition

I’m not a fan of the move either but I can see why they did it, no other choice really

I understand it too- but to your first point (bolded) The "old blood powerhouses" NOT being powerhouses have something to do with the conference losing its luster. On one hand we could say " well that is b/c of the Dakota's and Montana's" which all 4 would essentially be ranked between 20-50 most years in FBS , but IMO Delaware is really, or was really THE ONLY school that had the chance to be one of them, mostly b/c it is the only game in town, next b/c of the Stadium and history and lastly b/c of the state school status (money).. and instead, UDEL has declined from the glory days. Last couple years were nothing to be ashamed of, but I think you catch my drift. The reality is, like it or not that Delaware has a better chance of being 7-5 in some crap FBS conf and beating some team in a bowl than it does winning an FCS Championship last few and next few years. The best CAA team most years is light years away from the top 5 teams (real top 5) and teams like last years Albany seem to be flashes in the pan. JMU leaving was a problem but The lack of being truly dominant by schools like Nova, Delaware, UNH, URI, W&M, Richmond for the most part is just a big a reason why the new CAA lost appeal not just adding Monmouth, Hampton, Bryant, Campbell etc. I think Delaware would be gone regardless as we know which was this is all going, but again I hope you see my point. I myself love The UDEL program and Stadium and am sad to see it go the second I arrive, but I agree with move (but still do not like it)...

There’s always a choice. I’m not talking about UD but if W&M left todays CAA for all sports to join todays CUSA, I would want the AD fired for incompetence.

I prefer the JMU approach. Timing is everything. Something might come up with all the changes, if you’re going to move, make sure it’s the right new home.

CAMPBELL @ LIBERTY
The Camels are also looking for their first FBS win. They are 0-5 overall with none of the games close. Campbell was trounced in Chapel Hill last year, 59-7. The Camels are 0-1 vs Liberty all time.

Liberty is a 42 point favorite - yikes!

It seems pretty clear that the Delaware strategy is now that the C-USA has been bailed out by the addition of any FCS team willing to move into the cellar of FBS, they will be able to hang on as a FBS program until a better and more viable conference gives them a call. The strategy may work - they are a much better University , with a better pedigree and a bigger endowment, then any other school in the C-USA.

This Delaware team looked very good vs Bryant and could be the best the CAA has in 2024, even if they are not eligible to win the Championship.

I would list Delaware and UTEP as the "flagship" academic institutions in CUSA with La Tech a rather distant third. UTEP has a tremendous history in Mexican-American education and its cultural impact in West Texas/Southeast New Mexico can't be overstated. UTEP and Colorado School of Mines are also the two of the preeminent institutions when it comes to geology and engineering disciplines associated with the science of Earth.

UTEP really should be the MWC imo. Everyone could use a little more Sun Bowl in their life as it's one of the most beautiful stadiums in the country. It's a shame athletics remain an afterthought.

EXCERPT FROM TA-DAYS JOURNAL.........AWK!

Delaware entered the 2024 football season with a distinct advantage over its 11 foes because of what is happening in 2025.
The Blue Hens have 75 scholarship players, roughly halfway between the 63 they were permitted as an FCS team and the 85 presently allowable in the FBS, where they arrive next year as Conference USA members.
Delaware will be required, by an agreement with the Coastal Athletic Association, to not use more than 63 scholarship players in league games. But Delaware rarely used that many in a game last year anyway.
“Honestly, it’s not too much of a difference,” coach Ryan Carty said, “when you get into the actual numbers of people that are playing. It’s not going to be a crazy difference from one game to the next.”
The larger number of scholarship players will, however, allow Delaware to dip a little deeper when choosing whom to play.

Towson competing at Cincinnati. Mid Q3, they are out rushing the Bearkats and drew to 20-28 on first 2H possession. UC up 35-20 right now.

I hear the forecast for October 5th calls for temps in the 40's, clouds and some Hens getting nabbed by some Hawks. If that were to happen it would be "The Butcher Block" restaurant in Long Branch on me. You will not find a real menu online- but trust me if you are ever around there. And although my brain is half fried, I do know you post in Jest at me- however I am a NORTH JERSEY GUY!! Week 2 and already my dreams are on the table. The Pards are a must win or it is ovah. TBH I saw a lot that I liked in our game against EWU but the truth is Lafayettes's D is better than theirs although their offense is not. If somehow, some way The Hawks can figure out how to just stop a team even just a few times, mark my words and please hold me to this- Our home game with Nova the next to last week of the season will act as a playoff game for us (allowing us the right to beat Stony in the last week and make it)-- and if people think SB is anything close to last year they are sadly mistaken. If we get through week 4 at 2-2 we will be in the playoffs. There it is- dreams waiting to be shattered by song lyrics from my friend C-Hen.

URI tried to give that game away to Holy Cross and an epic breakdown in the final minute allowed us to give it back. The only reason I slept well last night was because IF anyone deserved to win that game, it was the Rams. Holy Cross offense more of a one trick pony that I've ever seen. Last night was a battle of perhaps the two worst OC in the country. Murphy absolutely stinks, I couldn't wait for him to depart Worcester a handful of years ago and now URI stuck with him.

I know Week 1 can be strange and sloppy, but last night definitely looked like a battle of two teams that don't belong anywhere near the playoff/Top 25 conversation as of now. Holy Cross looks like a 4th place-ish Patriot League team and Rhode Island will have to correct a ton of mistakes just to finish middle of the pack in the CAA where they are projected. They have some names and some talent on offense but can't tell if their defense is decent or if HC offense just totally inept. At very least they can pressure a QB. This film session in Kingston today won't be pleasant.

Agreed- nice and big win for Maine in terms of confidence and especially where you going this week. An yes, the Very top of The CAA may be very good. Albany has fallen off possibly and who knows honestly about UNH but URI did not overwhelm me. I will add that I think Towson is a problem and will be a tough out for anyone and they do play Nova and W&M. I watched a lot of their game against Cincy and offensively they have some horses. They will be heard from IMO- Wining is tough but they are good.

yeah so weird. $$ is great but guy seemed like a baller - I would rather play football then get paid, but maybe b/c I miss it so much and he does not have the ability yet to miss it. I guess at that age I would take the $$ too but $$ can always be made, Football you get only a certain time.
