TOOK ONE TO OMAHA WHEN THE CITADEL PLAYED IN THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

Jay Buckley has some great tours. 2004 was my last big trip that I saw a baseball game. NY Yankee Stadium, great time, easy to get to from our hotel in Queens via subway. Also went to the US Open Tennis on that trip. Go to several Twins games during the season, but it's not the same in the Metrodump. New outdoor stadium opens in 2010 I think. Twinsfest next weekend, first tickets will be available there.

Home opener for the Nats in their brand new stadium against the Braves, and I'm sure about a dozen games or so throughout the season

A trip or two up to B'more to see the O's

NYC in late September to see the Mets (in conjunction with the tennis U.S. Open that I'm going to) and/or Yankees

Perhaps a weekend trip to Pittsburgh

I'm seeing the Twins play the Reds (not a fan of either team but I'll be in Ft. Myers) play a Spring Training game in March.

Mets[/COLOR] (in conjunction with the tennis U.S. Open that I'm going to) and/or Yankees

Good luck getting tickets to either stadium in august/september in the last season of the two parks.

The Yankees have only 4 games during the Open this year. Aug 28-31.
I assume the Mets will be home From Sept 1-Sept 10 since their schedules usually have them home at opposite times.

Went to Baltimore with my dad as a kid, can't really drive to many parks besides Coors Field from Colorado. Always wanted to make an Arizona spring training trip though...

Baseball season is on the horizon. Anybody ever take a baseball vacation, or plan on taking one this season?

In '86, I did 8 games in two weeks with my Dad:

Montreal
Detroit
Cubs
St. Louis
Cincinatti
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Philadelphia

Awesome - unbelievable memorable

A few highlights were Kirk Gibson hitting a 3 run HR in Detroit in the bottom of the 12th to beat Texas (he was 1 for 6 on the night, no pinch hitting heroics this time)

Being so close to the field in Wrigley I could smell the grass

Vince Coleman leading off the first with a walk and then drawing about 15 throws before the game could proceed

A Kool and the Gang concert after the Pirate game (remember when they did that)

Someone spilling a beer on me from the upper deck at Memorial Stadium

And a final game (when we were completely exhausted) that last 2 hours and 5 minutes - which was about all we had the capacity for at that point

BTW - of the 8 stadiums, only the Cubs still play in the same one we saw them in.

Stadiums I've been in

Chavez Ravine (it's like a pilgrimage for West Coasters)
San Diego (The Murph & the new one)
Anaheim Angels
Pac Bell Park (or whatever it's named now, in San Fran)
new Mariner Stadium (also the Kingdome before its demise)
Wrigley Field
Bank One Ballpark/Chase Field

And despite my hatred for all things Giants, that stadium has the most beautiful setting on the PLANET. If you ever get the chance, try to get seats as far up and as far out on the right field side as you can. You look right down the outfield seats and can see McCovey Cove, The Golden Gate Bridge slightly off to the right, a little more off to the right is Alcatraz Island, and directly over the top of the stadium you see the ENTIRE San Francisco skyline. Absolutely awe-inspiring. Beat's AZ's airplane hanger any day of the week. xcoolx xcoolx xcoolx

I've only been to Tropicana Field, Petco Park, and Legends Field (Tampa Yankees).

I've driven by Citizen's Bank in Philly, The Ballpark in Arlington, and Turner Field.

I think me and a cousin are going to finish our tour of the minor league teams in the Carolinas this summer. We hit Winston-Salem, Hickory, and Asheville before I went on the DL in August. We've talked about Greenville, SC already, and we really should make it to Durham and Greensboro.

Minor league baseball is great. You don't care who wins and you don't know who any of the players are, you're just there to have fun. Here's my Minor League Good Times checklist:

* At least four big beers before the seventh
* Hot dogs (double points if they have good brats)
* Peanuts and making a mess with the shells
* Heckling umpires, players, managers and batboys (batboys are stingy douches and are therefore fair game)
* Loudly guessing how old the Latin player in the on-deck circle really is
* Quoting lines from baseball movies at appropriate moments
* Inventing new catchphrases that would put SportsCenter hosts to shame
* Moundball (bring a bunch of ones)

The Braves just announced that they are moving their AAA team from Richmond (I have been to a Richmond Braves game there, and their ballpark is terrible) to Gwinnett County outside of Atlanta, which would be about 30 minutes from my house. Their new stadium will open in 2009, so we'll get a cheap alternative to Turner Field, which takes about 2 hours to get to on game night (Atlanta traffic cops do their best to keep you from getting to the game).

I've thought of this for years, but never had the time or the company...the wife will not put up with something like that. Once, I start rolling into 'quasi-retirement' (lawyers never fully retire they just lose their appeal), I may plan a stadium trip.

Why? American League baseball sucks. They need to get rid of the DH. How it has survived (besides the union) is beyond me. Possibly the only major sport in the WORLD where the teams that meet for the championship played their entire seasons under different rules. xeyebrowx xeyebrowx xeyebrowx

I try to make it down there at least once a year, but I've never been to a Pelicans game. It might have to be a solo trip, but that's definitely on my list.

I started this one and forgot to contribute. As a kid I went to Tiger Stadium (many times ), Metropolitan Stadium (Minneapolis) and County Stadium (Milwaukee). Got to see Sparky Anderson and Lou Whittaker's last games at Camden yards in 1995.

Spring Training in Florida in 2000. Go if you can.

Last year I caught two games in Pittsburgh, two in Cleveland (plus a trip to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) on my way to Ann Arbor for the upset. Then hit Comerica Park in Detroit before heading home. Heartbreaking to see Tiger Stadium crumbling.

I'm trying to figure out how to do a Boston, New York (both teams), Philadelphia and Washington trip this year. Might have to opt for Atlanta, Tampa and Miami.

I dont know why you guys bother with the pi$$ barn (wrigley). yea there are good looking girls there, but the team sucks, the fans dont care who wins or loses, the place stinks of urine and you can always find people who do this at every game:

I'd like to get to Camden Yards again if time allows. It's an great place to see a game. PNC in Pittsburgh and Comerica (I'm biased here) in Detroit give it a run for the money.

I figure on going to the others because I haven't been there before.

The Braves just announced that they are moving their AAA team from Richmond (I have been to a Richmond Braves game there, and their ballpark is terrible) to Gwinnett County outside of Atlanta, which would be about 30 minutes from my house.
I lived about three-quarters of a mile from the Diamond in Richmond for 3 years. It's in the same neighborhood as Richmond's 3 seminaries. I went to maybe 3 Braves games in that span. I went to one VCU game there. I've been to probably 15 Washington Nationals games in that span, a half-dozen O's games, 2 games in Philadelphia (next-to-last at the Vet, first at CBB), and a game in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, I really didn't care about the team that was literally down the street.

And it's not that I don't care for minor-league baseball. When I lived in Hickory NC, I went to more (A) Hickory Crawdads games than I can count. The team VP was a deacon in the church where I was working, so I got great seats, usually for free, and occasionally spent a ilttle time in the locker room, owners' box, on the field, etc. I got to lead a few chapel services for the players. They even won the South Atlantic league in '02 - I've never been more nervous/excited at a pro game as I was for games seven of that series.

I guess I enjoyed watching 21 year-olds play for $750 a month in single-A better than 30 year-olds playing for MLB minimum (about 300K) in AAA. That and I really, really, strongly, very much dislike the Braves and all affiliates.

I've been to almost half the parks in MLB, although 3 I've visited have been replaced with newer ones. I will visit at least one new one next year - in Washington DC. I might get up to visit a friend in Grand Rapids, and see Detroit and possibly Cleveland.

I did a trip with my dad back in 2002 - we saw 5 games in 4 days, I believe...

Day 1: Royals at White Sox
Day 2: Cubs at Brewers
Day 3: Cards at Cubs (game 1, a day-game makeup for the game canceled for Darryl Kile's death), Cards at Cubs (night game)
Day 4: Brewers at Reds (first and only time I've caught a foul ball at an MLB game)

The big news between day 2 and 3 was that, for pretty much the first time ever, labor talks between the league and the players ended without a stoppage of play. We were pretty nervous, after having driven from Western NC up to Chicago, that a strike was imminent.

Overall, the trip was a blast - one of the best memories I have with my dad.

I have been to a lot of Sally league games, and they are a lot more fun than any of the AAA games I have been to. It seems in AAA they always try to act serious as if the major league teams are that way. When I went to the Richmond Braves game, they had no promotions (other than a lunchbox giveaway, which I guess is now a collectors item). The single-A games always seem to have tons of promotions and giveaways, and you get to sit very close to the action, which was a major problem with Richmond's stadium. They have a tiny lower deck and decided to stick about 90% of the seats in the upper deck, which puts everyone away from the action.

My buddy and I made a pact that we were going to go to each of the local ballparks this spring. That would include the Phillies in Clearwater, the Blue Jays in Dunedin, the Rays in St. Pete and the Yankees in Tampa (all within a 40 min drive). We'll see, I will be surprised if we actually make 3 out of 4.
