Just a few short years ago, the Southland Conference was on shaky ground as members were leaving.


As of July 1st, 2024, the SLC will be 12 members strong with its geographical footprint in two states, Louisiana and Texas, as it welcomes new and returning members UTRGV and SFA, respectively.

This season nine of the 12 schools will field football teams and will play a 7-game conference schedule. Texas A&M Commerce is transitioning from Division II, but has played a conference schedule since moving up.

Next season (2025) the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (who will field conference teams in all sports this season except football) will begin its inaugural football season.
