Many of us here at AGS are not "true" Packers fans. i.e. we cheer for a different team normally. But Brett Favre has changed all of that, today everyone outside of NY, NE, and SD are Pack fans. I say to show our support for the team and for the greatest playing Quarterback, we change our avatars to the icon, the legend, the AMERICAN HERO that is BRETT FAVRE.

I'll probably catch hell for this, because the man-love for Faav-rah is through the roof right now, but...

Roger Clemens is currently fighting allegations of steroid and HGH use in the latter part of his career. After ten years he was apparently washed up, then miraculously became the Rocket of yore at the age when most pitchers fall off a cliff. He says it's simply hard work, but hardly anyone believes he didn't take PEDs because he's done things a forty-something pitcher shouldn't be able to do.

Isn't the trajectory of Favre's career quite a bit similar to Clemens'? He's threatened to retire for the last three years, his better days were seemingly well behind him, and suddenly it's 1997 all over again. No one is asking the obvious question here because every sportswriter in America has a throbbing homo-boner for the old man. It's well documented that he'll take whatever painkillers he has to if it will allow him to play, so how much of a stretch is it that he would take something that would help him play better?

Fresno St. Alum
January 14th, 2008, 10:40 PM
they drug tested in the NFL all though Favre's career and he's never tested positive. They didn't test in baseball when Clemens took roids(if he did) He had 20 years of not having to be tested

That's the thing: we expect football players to take pills and PEDs. We don't really care if they take ground-up whale dong if it does the trick. It's probably twice as bad in the NFL right now as it was in baseball during the BALCO heyday. That no one ever seems to get caught just means that they've been doing this long enough to know how get away with it.

The point I was making was if Brett had been a prick his whole career like Roger or Barry, at this point in time I would think someone would at least draw that conjecture, wrong though it may be (and probably is). But since Farve gets his knob polished by the press more than any athlete in American sports today, there's no chance of that happening.

I listened to several sports talk shows in the Twin Cities yesterday. The topic of the day was, how are we going to live with the Packers going to the Super Bowl again, if they win. Most were rooting for the Packers opponents. If the Packers happened to pull off the big upset and defeat New England, the Viking fans were saying they could never win a debate with a Packer fan as long as they lived. Pretty sad day in Minnesota. xlolx

It has more to do with the new coach, offense and GM keeping some of the vets on the roster than Favre improving his abilities. He's playing about the same as other years, maybe a few MPH's off his fastball. He even stated last year, that this is the best talent he has every played with. Maybe because Elway won 2 Super Bowls at the end of his career, he was taking Steroids. I doubt it in either case, the QB position is both over-rated and under-rated.

As much as it pains me (and believe me it does), if it's the fudgePackers and the Pats in the Super Bowl I'll have to go against all I've ever believed in and actually root for the Pack just because I detest the Patriots that much. So beware Packer fans, you may have some Vikings fans rooting for you and that would be one heck of a curse to overcome.

But no matter how many championships the Packers win, this Vikings fan will always be willing to debate with Packer fans till they are purple in the face. I mean, UND fans still debate with NDSU fans...... oops! did I just say that out loud?
