Texas AD and A&M AD have given their blessing...
Just waiting on the Big XII now. Do you think this is a good move? The game used to be a Thanksgiving night game just over 10 years ago. Times have changed though as we now have an NFL evening game on Thanksgiving.
Also, have the Dallas Cowboys factor in Texas. The Boys always play on Thanksgiving. Won't be many happy wives if the biggest rivalry game in the state of Texas joins the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

Bring that game back to Thanksgiving where it belongs! My wife and I were at that game in '93 and we froze our @sses off! It was sleet and then freezing rain during the game. Most of us from South and Central Texas are used to the heat, not the sleet! For me, the games in '06 and '07 were also classics!

Because Texas A&M was on probation and banned from TV in 1994 for a whole host of reasons. Remember, Jackie Sherrill had been their head coach in the 80's/early 90's and they were, with the exception of SMU, arguably the dirtiest program in the SWC:
Football's Dirtiest Programs: #3, Texas A&M (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/07/26/dirtiest-football-programs-3-texas-aandm)
ABC got Texas and Baylor to play the day after Thanksgiving that year. When A&M's 1 year TV ban ended in '95, they didn't resume the Thanksgiving day game in because the Aggies were still ineligible for the SWC title, thus making the game irrelevant on a national level. Recall, this game often determined the Cotton Bowl representative in the 80's. Soon thereafter, the Big XII and it's chamionship game came along, making this game less relevant than it had been in the 80's.

Back to Thanksgiving night...
AUSTIN -- Beginning next season, the annual Texas-Texas A&M football game will return to Thanksgiving for the first time since 1993.
The two schools agreed to a contract that calls for the 2008 and 2009 games to be played on Thanksgiving night and be televised by ESPN. The 2008 game will be played in Austin and 2009 in College Station.
“When I arrived in Aggieland, one of the first questions I was asked was when would we get the Texas football game back on Thanksgiving?” Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said. “I knew the Big 12 contract called for the game to be played the day after Thanksgiving on ABC, but that didn’t stop the questions or desire to move the game back to Thanksgiving. I am thrilled that ESPN has offered to move the game back to that traditional date of Thanksgiving. I applaud the Big 12 Conference and our television partners in making this happen.”
