Nothing Baseball does surprises me.......it is the most un-professional of the professional sports....American Galdiators and RAW have as much credibility as MLB.....

Baseball is not a sport, it is a pass time and it is a club activity suitable for beer and tobacco while playing.
Any game that can effectively be played by middle aged persons whose waste line exceeds their inseam, and with a cigarette or chew in the mouth, is a club game.
Do not confuse baseball with true athletics. Yes it takes skill to hit the ball, and it takes skill to play golf, but it, just like baseball is a club game. xrulesx

Define "effectively". xrolleyesx
I can play football "effectively" too. Doesn't mean I'm gonna get paid millions for the way I play it. ;)

I like the baseball hall of fame better than other sports. Many hall of fames, you just mention a name and they are in. Baseball is one of the hardest ones to be voted into. There are many that should be there and are not. In the list of the linked players many deserve to be in, but there are a few that got in by who they knew. Sure, there is room for improvement, but the baseball Hall of Fame is hallowed compared to the rest.
And FWIW, the Baseball Hall of Fame is not run by Major League Baseball, which IMO is good.

After 80 years of existence, the fact that there are only 33 names on that list is really quite amazing. Voters and voter preferences change over time. We (today) will really never be able to appreciate what "Tinkers to Evers to Chance" meant to the game, or what Phil Rizutto meant to the game. People today tend to look solely at the numbers. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but with writers doing the voting, personal preference, prejudice, familiarity and popularity can and do come into play.
All that doesn't make the hall "meaningless", just makes it a human endeavor.

OB55,
The speed of some baseball players will amaze you.
Justin Upton (prospect for the Devil Rays I think) ran a 6.2 60 yard dash. The world record around 5.9, and Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was usually between 6.0 and 6.2.
Kenny Loften and Bo Jackson were reportedly in the 6.2 range as well.
Darin Erstad was considered one of the fastest guys in the American League when he was younger, and he was in the 6.4 range.
The speed, agility, and the fact that hitting a round ball with a round bat squarely is the hardest thing to do in sports makes baseball more than a club sport.

Until Pete Rose is enshrined, the baseball HOF is meaningless to me.

Why are you responding to his comments with a reasoned argument? Clearly he's not interested in such things, as his off-the-cuff rant about baseball shows he doesn't like the sport. There's nothing wrong with not liking baseball, but there is something wrong with ignorance if you're going to spout off about it, unless you do it in a tongue-in-cheek manner... such as when I refer to all soccer fans as communists! xthumbsupx
