While student-athletes are recognized for their achievement in undergraduate classrooms and on their fields of competition, rarely are they acknowledged for their contributions to research and involvement in graduate programs. Based on NCAA data, roughly 2300 student-athletes pursue graduate education annually. Western Illinois currently has 19 students enrolled in graduate programs ranging from Public Safety, Geographic Information Systems, Business Administration, and Computer Science to History, Kinesiology and Sport Management. In addition to helping faculty with their award-winning research, student-athlete scholars also engage in their own research.
