Still confused why they need a domed stadium in Birmingham, but they're having at it. There's not a professional team -- what more are they trying to do than what they have right now?

Mayor Larry Langford wants an independent study to determine the best location for a domed stadium in Birmingham, and says he is willing to abide by the study's findings.
He remains convinced that a 228-acre tract near the Birmingham Race Course is the best location for the half-billion-dollar project.
"Whatever we do, we have to get it right the first time," Langford said in an interview. "This issue is so important, it's not a question of what I want."
Sites being considered in addition to the Race Course are 22 acres near the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, 40 acres at the Alabama State Fairgrounds in Five Points West and 50 acres at Legion Field.

Because Legion Feils is out of date. In my opinion, they need to renovate Legion Feild, hell with a dome. The issue is that a lot of whites in the area say that the feel unsafe around the Legion Field areaxrolleyesx , despite no serious crimes have happened at any of the sporting events there. People blame the bad attendance at UAB games and the Papa Johns.com bowl game of the saftey concerns about the area the stadium is located.

So, what does the city of Birmingham do with Legion Field? I'm just not seeing how they can justify a new stadium in the city when there is a lack of professional team(s), they don't draw well for UAB or the bowl games and such....

But they draw very well for the HBCU events at Legion Feild. Labor Day Classic is around that 44-39,000 mark, Magic City Classic is around the 69-68,000 mark, Swac Championship game draws well, and so does the other HBCU events. Hell even the Battle of the Bands draw 50,000. UAB football means nothing to that City.

First, so they would have a shot at getting the SEC Championship game back again since the SEC Office is in Birmingham. Also, 2.) HBCU Classics, 3.) SWAC Championship and 4.) attract a better bowl game.
They've wanted this for years (actually had a referendum about 10 years ago that failed miserably) with the stadium used to attract an NFL franchise (back then Minnesota before the team was sold to Red McCombs).
