Shields Invited To NFL Combine; Hightower Invited To Texas Vs. The Nation All-Star Game
Senior WR Arman Shields is Richmond’s first NFL Combine invitee since 1998.

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – A pair of University of Richmond senior football players have earned the chance to increase their NFL draft possibilities in the coming months. Wide receiver Arman Shields has been invited to the NFL Draft Combine, while tailback Tim Hightower was extended an invitation to play in the Texas Vs. The Nation All-Star Game.

Shields becomes the first Spider to earn a spot in the NFL Combine since current Houston Texans linebacker Shawn Barber in 1998. The senior reeled in 107 yards in the opener versus Vanderbilt, but went down with a knee injury the game following and missed the majority of the season.

The Washington, D.C. native finished his career second all-time in catches (160), sixth in yards (1,930) and tied for eighth in touchdowns (13). Including the Vandy game, Shields surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark seven times in his 37-game career.

Nearly 300 of the top college football players are invited annually to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, set for February 20-26. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the eligible players for the upcoming NFL Draft.

The All-American Hightower earned an invitation to play in the annual Texas Vs. The Nation All-Star Game, set for February 2 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The game will be televised live on CSTV and features the best collegiate senior players from across the country.

Former NFL coach Buddy Ryan will coach Hightower's "Nation Team" while Gene Stallings will coach "Team Texas." Nearly 75 percent of the roster from the 2007 game (78 of 107) signed NFL contracts, with 12 being drafted.

The 2008 NFL Draft is set for April 26-27 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
