LMAO. UND loses first game of the tourney. Their hockey team is just like their football team, can’t win away from home. Take a look at their schedule this year and check out the number of home games vs away games. Hilarious.

Tennessee State becomes first HBCU to add ice hockey as a varsity sport, and they just officially hired a fitting and deserving coach born in Jamaica and picked up ice hockey after graduating from another HBCU in Hampton.

Any idea why the Summit would want to do this? They only have three teams in the NCHC- Denver, North Dakota and Omaha.

Keeping a close eye on rumblings Summit League will add Ice Hockey as championship sport, and the impact for
@TheNCHC (https://twitter.com/TheNCHC) if this occurs.

The Summit League has 4 teams (StT, UND, UNO, DU) that play hockey. Does this move StT to SL hockey and move Miami and WMU to CCHA conferences. Miami has wanted out of the NCHC for several years now. I am not sure they want to be in a conference with travel to AZ.
SL/NCHC:
UND, UNO, DU, SCSU, UMD, CC, St T plus ASU coming in next year.
CCHA:
NSIC: Augie, BSU, Min St
MAC: Bowling Green, Miami, WMU
MIAC: Ferris St, Lake Superior, Mich Tech, N. Mich

Forgot about UST since they are in the CCHA. If they looked at geography there should be some trades.
Augie really wanted to go full D1 and get into the Summit, but now that they have hockey it looks like the brakes have been put on for the rest of their sports.

Other reasons why:
1) One less conference and offices to support - plus all the NIL, Alston, transfer portal support overhead for the schools.
2) Brand recognition for the Summit League. The NCHC has significant visibility in college hockey. The Big Ten made fun of the conference when it was formed. I think their fans called it the NaCHCo. It has won 6 national championships since its first season in 2013/2014. This is branding that the primary conference Summit League is missing out on.
3) Plus conference media contracts, it might be easier for schools to manage and they might be able to leverage for better exposure. I know that CBS Sports has contracts for Summit League basketball tournament and NCHC regular season and conference tournament.

Unfortunately, I think it is more than just geography. There is a difference in budgets also.
NOTE: I believe that StT budget numbers are going to be increasing significantly when they start play in the new arena.
As you can see, Miami, WMU, and SCSU are struggling to keep up. In the long run it might have been better for the NCHC to include Min St vs SCSU.
