Gave up Ryan Sweeney and Gio Gonzales and a scrub pitcher. This is nice and all but WE NEED PITCHING DAMNIT!
ISU, I await your post.

The only thing strange about this is that Swisher still has 2-3 "cheap" years left. I also wouldn't call De Los Santos a "scrub", "an unknown" would be more appropriate I think. In Single A the guy was averaging 1.25 strikeouts/inning. He also doesn't walk too many betters. In short, he is exactly the type of pitcher Billy Beane craves.
The White Sox have virtually no farm system to speak of anymore, right?
More on De Los Santos:
De Los Santos was named the South Atlantic League’s Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and was also named to the SAL midseason and postseason All-Star teams in 2007 after going 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA and .148 opponents batting average in 21 games, 15 starts at Single-A Kannapolis. He also made five starts for Single-A Winston-Salem and combined at both stops for a 10-5 record and a 2.65 ERA in 26 games, 20 starts.

whitey: first, you aer correct our farm system has gone from one of the best in the bigs to nothing. That's what happens when your GM trades for Carl Everett and Robbie Alomar 2x....each!
The Sox entire bullpen is full of guys who just strike everyone out, and they were pretty pathetic last year, that's why I don't have much hope for the kid.

I just saw this at MSN.
I like Gonzalez and De Los Santos. I think the A's got some good players in this trade.

Understandable. I was just saying that a 21 year old kid with that type of K-rate in Single A could move up fast. Especially in the Oakland A's organization, which makes more sense from Billy Beane's point of view.

Ryan Sweeney isn't as good as Swisher, but he isn't small potato's either.
In return the White Sox got a proven player (who is pretty damn good himself). Not only that, but he'll be under Sox control for the next 4 seasons.

1B - Chris Carter (#7 ranked prospect in the Dbacks system)
OF - Aaron Cunningham (#8 ranked prospect in the Dbacks system)
OF - Ryan Sweeney (#2 ranked prospect in the White Sox system)
P - Gio Gonzalez (#4 ranked prospect in the White Sox system)
Not to mention:

DLS is a very good prospect...basically we gave them our 2 best pitching prospects, but our farm system was way overrated and alot of guys havent panned out, like Sweeney...In the long run, we gave up alot, but everyone in the OAK locker room LOVED Swisher and he fills the hole in CF that Kenny couldnt fill with Hunter or Rowand

My A's are rebuilding. I'm just not sure why Beane is trading away our hitting (Swisher) for Pitching? Last year the A's were near the bottom in just about every hitting category xsmhx . And in the top half in every pitching category. WE NEED HITTING NOT PITCHING.
