Andre Davis returned two kicks for TDs yesterday in the Texans win over the Jaguars. He was very productive for the team especially when Andre Johnson was out with an injury and is very well-liked in the Texans locker room.
With Davis making himself a legitimate return man for the Texans and the team still having Jacoby Jones (out of Lane College) as someone they feel comfortable with down the line -- Jerome Mathis has lost his spot with the Texans.
Mathis, the Hampton product, really showed some flashes of being a very strong return man in the NFL, but he had a knack for being hurt. He was just too "wound up" and there were quite a few in the organization who did not like his off the field discipline as it relates to his commitment to rehab and of course, there is that motorcycle accident.
So, he's probably as good as gone (mentioned in John McClain's blog today and discussed a bit on Houston sports radio)...
Poor kid. I think he had a great deal of potential and I'm sure there'll be teams looking to sign him. He'll probably get pennies compared to what he desires, but when your off the field more than you are on it, your not going to get that big time $$$.
Mathis will get a chance to prove his value, if he can stay healthy. If not, his NFL career will come to an end...
